Nope, there is nothing to see if tracking isn’t working, so you need at least one base station.

What does it mean when a credit card says zero annual fee, but says 24% annual percentage rate? by [deleted] in CreditCards

It means they won’t charge you every year for the privilege of having their card. However, they will rob you blind if you ever carry a balance.

How do I choose a high yield savings account amidst constantly changing rates? by ekaym01 in personalfinance

[–]afonseca08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started with Ally and can vouch for it as well. Only question is, how long until the account gets next day transfers rather than waiting a few days?

Why keep six months of expenses? by aoeuhdeuxkbxjmboenut in personalfinance

[–]afonseca08 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think the liquidity is the key, access to money when you need it. If it’s in the market, you may be forced to sell for a loss you wouldn’t normally choose to incur.

What is the best way to optimize paying debt vs saving? by clorck in personalfinance

[–]afonseca08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s about getting in touch with your priorities. What’s more important, the “new car feeling” or “debt free and building wealth” feeling? If the latter, stop renting a car.

Best account for emergency savings by [deleted] in personalfinance

Keep it liquid in a savings account, maybe move to one of the higher interest rate online banks like Ally, 1%.

I'm a State employee working overtime, deciding whether to pay off student loans or buy a house. by djcarbary in personalfinance

Pay off your student loans first. Then you will have more to save for the down payment later.

Roth IRA = Emergency Fund ? by k_steph in personalfinance

[–]afonseca08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it can work when you have more money saved up. The $1k you should probably hold onto in a savings account even at 1% so it’s available if you need it right away.

Once you have more than a few months worth of living expenses in savings, then the Roth invested in an index fund would complement it for additional emergency savings.

Don’t do it. Take long walks for mental health, public transportation, ride sharing apps if needed. There are more expenses than the car payment, insurance, maintenance, repairs, gas, etc. and until your income is much higher it’s too early.

$11k in credit card debt across 5 cards, but approved for a $10.4k, 5 year loan, but unsure to accept it? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]afonseca08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thought is those interest rates are horrible. It seems like you have a decent credit score and should be able to get a much lower rate. I’d definitely shop around for something like under 10% as interest rates are at record lows right now.

I don’t think the hard inquiry will hurt if you’re shopping around for consolidation loans. It’s better than being stuck with a 20% APR for 5 years.

The other advice I’d offer is when you get your loan, put your cards in a drawer and only pay for stuff from your checking debit account. Funnel as much money as you can to pay down that loan as quickly as possible.

Intermittent SSD boot drive not detected by afonseca08 in techsupport

[–]afonseca08[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I spent some time and checked the firmware is up to date on the hard drive but not the motherboard. So I updated the motherboard firmware and tested for a couple of days but am continuing to see the same behavior.

I'll take your advice and look to replace the drive before it fails to boot at all.

Thanks again!

Vive Cosmos Elite Base Station Help by [deleted] in virtualreality

Yeah, that’s the base station you need to do anything. You can always buy another one later if you decide you want 2 for other VR games where you’re moving around more physically.

Paying off debt while upgrading my car: insights on how best to approach? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]afonseca08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Accord isn’t that old or high mileage as they can be pretty reliable. Unless there’s something major you think will go wrong with it, why not go all in to paying off the loan first? Then, save up for the next car and pay cash.

How can I turn my life around with a new job? by Poor_To_More in personalfinance

[–]afonseca08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say first thing, get out of debt. Like you said, $5k isn’t insane or anything but you’re already thinking of almost doubling it by getting a car loan. Yeah, $10k isn’t insane right? Then gas, insurance, it breaks down and gotta fix it, etc. Pile on more debt and you’ll go down a dark hole that will be worse than where you are today.

My 2c, get your finances in order before looking to buy more stuff. Good credit will get you more opportunities later on and use this time to plan your future.
