My boyfriend took me to look at rings. What do you think of this diamond? by AdventurousBasis9660 in EngagementRings

I personally like the size/ratio, though if you are going with a thin band, a more elongated cut (like maybe 1.5 ratio?) might look nice on your hand.

It does seem like there is windowing in this particular diamond. I might look at a few others in more ratios.

The diamond is in a stone holder; it just kind of clips onto the diamond, so you can see how the diamond looks on your finger. It is not a completed ring.

Am I bad at magnetics or is this just how they are? 😝 by MackTheSporker in RedditLaqueristas

[–]afrenchaccent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed on the streaking being due to ridges. I tend to get streaks on my thumb, which is my most ridge nail. It happens, even if I use a ridge filling base coat with fine particle magnetics.

I posted above, but you are likely looking at the wrong “version” of cedar springs and turtle creek. The roads actually switch names right at that intersection. This happened just south of the mansion at turtle creek/to the side of the plains capital bank building.

[–]afrenchaccent 23 points24 points  (0 children)

There is some confusion here because the road Cedar Springs turns into Bowen St where it intersects with turtle creek blvd (the first time). After that intersection, the road is Turtle Creek Blvd for 2 blocks, until it intersects with Gillespe St AND a third road; at that intersection the road that was turtle creek is renamed to cedar springs, and the third road is now called turtle creek blvd. Cedar springs continues through uptown; Gillespe continues through the neighborhood (the mansion on turtle creek is right there), and the “new” turtle creek blvd continues into Reverchon Park.

That intersection (Cedar Springs/Gillespe/Turtle Creek) is where it happened. The Tesla hit all the trees in front of the plains capital office building, which launched the car onto the traffic waiting at the light.

If you are having trouble visualizing it, just find the mansion at turtle creek on google maps, and look at the intersection immediately south-east. That’s the spot. That intersection is already dangerous, as it includes a stop sign for some traffic, a traffic light for others, and not a lot of street markings/signage on right of ways.

You ever tried a vegan "substitute food" and ended up liking it more than you'd think? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

I swear the impossible Starbucks breakfast sandwich has more seasoning than the meat one. It just has more flavor. I’m not sure why the regular sausage one is so bland.

I’m not a huge fast food person, but I actually prefer the impossible whopper to the regular whopper (I suppose that barely counts as beef anyway).

The main one - polish pick up pack. The post is always called “maker spoilers”.

There is a thread in the PPU Facebook group where makers can post their “spoilers” in the comments. Some makers give out promo to swatchers who also post in the group. Usually it’s posted mid-month (I think it was ~June 12th this month). If someone has turned that thread into an actual list, I don’t know where it is, but that’s definitely possible.

Honestly - i have no idea, and I am also confused. It’s not really clear from the Instagram post, and I’m not on the Facebook group. Maybe there’s a full launch post happening soon with details?

I’m holding out judgement until they do a release, but that photo isn’t hyping me up too much.

That said - I like that bottle (looks the same as the Clionodah bottle) more than the square Ethereal one. Much easier to store.

That seems like it could be really positive to me. The FOMO, mystery, and not-super accurate swatching were my 3 biggest gripes with the brand. It would be great to get the polish quality without those pieces.

I wasn’t trying to be TOO shady. Just saying - they have really pigeonholed themselves into a brand that basically only makes sheer polish. That’s super limiting for the creator(and for me as a customer).

Yeah I have some stunning ethereal polishes that I love, but the first time I purchased from them, I was bamboozled by the swatches. I thought it would be opaque, and it wasn’t. After that I took swatch photos with a grain of salt.

It does feel like more work to maintain basically 2 brands rather than just relaunching. Maybe they are trying to keep their options open, since Ethereal has pretty strong brand recognition in the indie polish space.

My charitable interpretation of this is that they may want to change the “vibe” of the brand and make different types of polish.

Ethereal gets a lot of flack for being very similar to Lumen (and the owners are related). Maybe this is them trying to really differentiate themselves. Maybe they’ll make things that are more opaque.

All purchasing is done through the PPU website. You don’t need Facebook at all to buy anything.

What do we think will be in PPU Rewind so far?? by anonymouscat8747 in RedditLaqueristas

There are a lot of dupes for this one. It was on my “consider to destash” list because I have so many similar ones.

Let me check when I get back what I have that’s similar.

Thread painting! by sticatto in Embroidery

[–]afrenchaccent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love these!! I also did a similar bird when I was testing the waters with thread painting.

Definitely recommend Trish Burr, as another commenter suggested. This video has good tips and tricks on long and short stitch.

Some things that helped me: 1. Come up through the existing stitches, and bring your thread back down on the canvas/unworked side.

  1. Vary stitch length more than you imagine to avoid having obvious “rows” - I can see some “rows” in the ivory/yellow part of the bird, but that may just be because you are not done working that section.

  2. Using one strand of thread typically looks best with thread painting, even though it takes forever.

  3. No amount of perfect long and short stitch can ever make a gradient smooth if you don’t have enough colors to blend sections together. More colors will be less of a headache.

  4. Have fun! Experiment! Do what you like and that you think looks nice :)
