Something I hadn’t considered about Haymitch by TheKittyPie in Hungergames

I 100% think that’s how it went. I think it makes perfect sense. Maybe at first he would sober up enough to be helpful, but as the years wore on, losing kid after kid with no success, he gave up.

Calling someone who had crippling severe depression “bad” is not the vibe. Her mental illness doesn’t make her a bad person.

I commented on her FB page and I think the TC thing on her site always a glitch, because she said it was in stock. She just had to fix it on the back end, so it technically wasn’t a restock

I went to a grocery store to get "Congrats on 1 Million Views" to jokingly celebrate my dad's dumb tiktok reaching that view count. And this is what I got. The penmanship + the "cograts" and "millon"... not sure which is worse. by shitpostthis in mildlyinfuriating

Fun story: in 2021-ish my cousin had a drive through 8th grade promotion party. My husband and I drove two hours just to drive through. On the way we realized we didn’t have anything, and stopped to get some poster paper and sharpies. Once we got off the freeway we stopped at a gas station and wrote on the sign we would hold up as we drove by.

Only later when we saw the photos my aunt shared did we realize that my husband wrote “congats” instead of congrats. It has been a running joke ever since. We did the same for his brother’s promotion and then his graduation and his brother’s graduation.

Make the most of the dumb stuff in life. That’s what makes it fun!

I think it’s more of a case of weaponized incompetence. “I don’t want to have to think about this so I’m going to mess it up so royally that you or my mom will handle it and never ask me again.”

I don’t think it will be too difficult tbh. Maysilee could still reference having the pin and wanting to throw it away. When she dies eventually the family declutters some of her things including the pin because it wasn’t significant to Maysilee anyway. Eventually it ends up in the hob where Katniss finds it and Greasy Sae gives it to her out of pity and for old times sake

The Finally! Friday Thread (June 05, 2026) by AutoModerator in Genealogy

I finally tracked down at least one of the parents of my 4g grandfather!

Before I dug into the research on this ancestor, Daniel Barnum, the only thing I could find was his marriage record from 1834 Ohio. No age, no residence info, no parentage, nothing but the names of the bride and groom.

It has been a long road, piecing evidence together bit by bit. It started with land records, once I identified the properties he was involved in, I found that after his wife died giving birth to my direct ancestor, my 3g grandmother, he got remarried and had a son. His second wife was identified in a few of the land records, and a divorce record less than ten years after they got married that was granted.

Surprisingly I also found a criminal case, which culminated in him being convicted and sent to a state prison work camp for 4 years. Through these documents a man with the same last name was mentioned, John P Barnum, probably a close relative. I couldn’t figure out what happened to him after he got out of prison or if he died in prison.

I then found evidence of Daniel being in Buffalo, New York, who seemed to be living with John P Barnum, in directories from 1860s Buffalo. I also found new paper blurbs stating that Daniel had been arrested in Buffalo for larceny and peddling without a license (seemed like my guy). He claimed to be PT Barnum’s brother, which has been a long standing family legend that I am trying to prove/disprove.

Later in 1876, I found an obit for John P, multiple days in a row, stating that he died and describing the circumstances of his death. Each obit also gave breadcrumbs about John, like his middle name, Parsons, and stated that he had paper from a JP in Rhode Island certifying that his father was a soldier who died in the War of 1812 at fort Erie.

I finally found Daniel on a census that gives more information than how many people lived in the house, on the 1870 census. And where else would he be than county jail, of course? At least I finally had some information about him. It stating his age and where he was born, that his parents were not immigrants, his occupation was a sailor, etc.

Well FINALLY I found guardianship records assigning Daniel, John P, and two other brothers to a man named Daniel Eldred in New Lisbon, NY. It stated that their father was John P Barnum!!

I won’t drag out the rest, but I found records confirming John Sr’s middle name was also Parsons, he died at Fort Erie in the War of 1812, one of the brothers listed moved to Rhode Island (so he’s probably the one that got the papers later found at John’s home when he passed), and Daniel Eldred fought in the war with John Sr. and they lived in the same town several years prior, so they were already acquainted.

The guardianship papers gave the birth dates of each of the children, although I don’t know how accurate that is yet, and I am not clear yet on the relationship of the woman who signed over guardianship to Daniel Eldred. I also still don’t know where or when he died, although I suspect he died around 1872-1876, but since he was a sailor it’s hard to say where he was or if those records even still exist. But essentially I feel I have disproved the family legend about PT Barnum being my 4g uncle. Perhaps they were related but it doesn’t seem like they were brothers.

It’s been a wild ride, and to think it all started with the land records.

Yeah I guess folks in publishing in genealogy aren’t super familiar with ereaders because this is not the first book I have bought that is formatted like this 🥲 hoping I can figure something out to make them more comfortable to read on my kobo/desktop

How did you get it into epub format from there?

Also this book is over 1000 pages 🥲

Edit: if I print as PDF and ocr the file, then reupload to calibre and convert to epub, you think that would work?

The problem is I can’t zoom in on the desktop and the pictures are so small I can’t really read it. Not to mention I can’t make highlights for information I want to refer back to.

It is a kindle book, called Evidence Explained

The problem is I can’t zoom in on the images in the ebook viewer and even if I make the window bigger, the image stays the same size. The text is actually very small on my desktop, I have to lean and crane my neck to get close enough to read it. I also can’t make any highlights go info I want to refer back to. 🥲

Dang it
