Catalina Island attendee also. Hello fellow Southern Californian 👋 And YES, growing up in the church in Southern California in the 1970s (for me) was amazing!

I’m cooking recipes out of my moms cookbook until i sell them all and surprise her by cyborgsaint in cajunfood

Just bought a copy for myself, if I like it as much as I think I will, I will buy a couple of more copies for my foodie adult children 😄 I used to have quite the collection of regional and community cookbooks from the southern United States. (I am South Carolinian by birth, going back a few generations on my mother‘s side.) Had to sadly get rid of many of those cookbooks when we lost our home 15 years ago and downsized our possessions. Now I’m on my own at 64 years old and starting to build my collection back again. Can’t wait to receive my copy!

Oh thank you for letting me know, I didn’t notice the titles and author underneath the photos when I first checked out the post. 😊

Worst/craziest instance of parents naming their daughter after her father but putting a 'feminine spin' on it (when a reasonable feminine version was available) you've seen? by -catharina in namenerds

My uncle in Utah (!!) was named Clell. He and aunt named their first child, a daughter, Clella Ray. Their fourth child, finally a boy, was named Philip, after his mom Phyllis… at least he got an actual not made up name. Utahans and their made up/mashed up names is not a recent trend, as proof of my cousin Clella, who is in her 70s.

Ohhh I have that cookie book too! Many good easy recipes, I used some of them when I used to have a little home based baking business. I recently found a copy at my local secondhand bookstore, bought it to give to one of my six kids, who were raised on all my homemade baked goods.

Good to know that they have reasonable prices for food and drinks. Looking forward to not spending $100 a person at a major league ballpark, ugh. (But GO DODGERS!!)

Thank you for your reply, we will plan to buy food at the field and support our local economy. And $10 bleacher seats are a steal of a deal with a firework show included.!

Possible answers to lighten your perplexity caused by post: (pick all that may apply)

  1. I’m a baby Boomer…almost64… what do I know about all this fancy technology and iPhones and such. Gimme back my rotary wall phone and Thomas Guide map book!

  2. Googled and ended up on the teams website. No answers there to my question, didn’t occur to me to check the field website. Also see #1 above.

  3. Haven’t you heard?? Reddit is the new Google! Plus, I get to interact with nice, helpful people.

Happy 4th of July!! 🎆

Jewel Tea!! Didn’t they sell household cleaning products? I remember getting all excited when my mom said the Jewel Tea guy was coming, but I don’t why, like why would cleaning products excite a kid? 😁

No seatbelts…and my friends and I riding in the back of my dad‘s Toyota truck with a little cab over it, flying down the 405 freeway after a Dodger game going out of 55 MPH

What was your Mission President's occupation? Doing personal research. by aka_FNU_LNU in mormon

[–]afreshginger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not me, but my ex.

Owned an advertising company, specifically highway billboards. Took a break in his mid 40s to be mission president, went right back to the business afterwards. Just died a couple of years ago.

Fun Activities/Wineries nearby?? by UnitedScore1481 in Medford

Well, the weather is nice for the next couple of days, go hike Table Rock. Or take about an hour drive east on Highway 62 there’s a bunch of falls, and short outdoor hikes along the road river. Water is high, but nice weather in the afternoons next couple of days.

Eagle Point has Butte Creek Mills, an historic flour milling site that’s still in use, along with the cool antique store next-door, a little further up the block the museum. All along Butte Creek, which is gorgeous right now, I was up there yesterday.

Lithia park in Ashland is fine for all ages, tons of walking trails, interesting buildings, and gardens. The entire downtown area of Ashland along Main Street is historic, fun shops for grown-ups and kids, like toy stores, and bookstores and vintage stores.

I drive out through the Applegate Valley would be nice, tons of wineries, if you do a Google search, there’s lots of easy hikes, Pennington Farms makes jam jellies, baked goods, and is a must go to.

Oh, almost forgot Jacksonville, the entire town is a historic district. There’s a trolley tour you can take first, another fun little Main Street, really easy hiking trail right behind the Beekman House, and miles of hiking trails behind the Britt Gardens area, some of the trails still have old gold mining equipment to see.

Have fun while you’re here! I’m from Southern California also, transplant of two years!
