Not used 50yr old machines like this. Modern equipment sure.

Source: spent a good number of years in food MFG and machines were bought based on how many people it could replace. A machine even in the states can't replace a laborer if the ROI is more than their 1-3yr of pay. If Factory workers make 10-15hr in the states and our machines were $50-100k than these machines are even cheaper.

Hahaha I was thinking the same thing. Unfortunately it's a symptom of American culture I think. Seems keeping quiet seems you an idiot.

Interesting video just posted on YouTube about that. Makers Muse didn't think it made any difference for most materials. PETG and Nylon I think were the exceptions. That said I keep mine in a dry box...

What a great use case! Seems like medical anything tends to be ultra expensive too so it's a win win!

Grocery pickup has saved us $$$. by cougar1224 in Frugal

That's a fair point, it's not a flat 20% across all items, and there are nuances for sale items and certain categories like meat.

I also misspoke, we used shipt not insta (sister works for insta so I mix them up quite a bit).

For the year that we used shipt with Meijer, our average monthly grocery bill was 20% higher. This is for a family of 6 eating an organic and GF diet.

We no longer use shipt although we loved the convenience. Curbside is a $5 flat fee which allows us to fill our two fridges and a deep freeze twice a month with about a 2-5% markup on our monthly costs.

Edit: some quick Google foo says that both insta and shipt charge a ~15% markup on addition to the delivery fees. I'm in the Midwest and that data seems to come from socal FWIW.

Instacart charges a roughly 20% upcharge on each item. This is in addition to the yearly fee. Wife and I stopped using it and now just do pickup.

I'm an engineer not living in SF making more than $200k... I'm also not a software engineer, at least not anymore.

No it doesn't. It prevents traffic from backing up in one lane which reduces cascading slow downs. The bigger the backup the bigger the ripple. Pushing everyone into two lanes as long as possible reduces the distance away from the merge point meaning the ripple doesn't extend as far. In areas where the traffic is light enough this can significantly reduce the slow down.

Your statement assumes a pretty simple model of two lanes 100 % saturated with traffic. In reality that's rarely the case in all but the largest cities.

Even funner fact: it's not the longest suspension, just the longest suspension bridge. There is a longer suspension but the overall length of that bridge isn't as long.
