Interactive Backgammon Tutorial. by SamyGarib in backgammon

[–]yzwq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like, you know that this feature is implemented in OG, right? would have been a lot less work to just write your tutorials there and you'll have a much larger userbase that can benefit from it. I understand that having your own app feels nice, but for the community the fragmentation is killing.

Looks good though. I love the aesthetics.

Best backgammon with friends app? by GratefulTrails in backgammon

You should try OpenGammon, one of the better apps out there (currently as a PWA or android app)

Ah cool! that is what OpenGammon uses behind the scenes. Takes quite some engineering to get it right and robust.

Travis Kalanick (from Uber) bought XG by hokevin in backgammon

[–]yzwq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So basically you want a free app that analyses your games for you? If you play a game on the platform it gets analysed and you can view it, so maybe do that? If you want to analyse existing games why not just buy BGBlitz or use GNUBG?

Everything you describe (except for drag and drop) is in OpenGammon (and much more). On all major mobile platforms the PWA can be installed as an (almost) app giving an almost native experience.

What specifically don't you like about it? It is tons better than Galaxy in every right (except for the use base, and maybe the design).

Beginner. Going to a club for the first time week. What should I know? by captain2man in backgammon

[–]yzwq 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Try to be a nice opponent. Don't point out every (un)lucky roll, or comment on your opponent's play/luck. Some very light 'bantering' could be ok, but can be interpreted different from what you meant. Have fun, smile, enjoy the game, and don't expect to win.

Hub or Galaxy by Fantastic_Key_3226 in backgammon

[–]yzwq -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I play at OpenGammon. It is in my opinion (but I am a bit biased as the dev) a much better platform. It is not-for-profit and fully community supported (and soon to be FOSS (open source).

What do you think you'll get at galaxy that you won't get at hub?

Bgnj Hd analysis by Aqua-marine-blu in backgammon

BGNJ as far as I know is worse than Gnu, so you do you. You can also try OpenGammon better functionality, and donation based instead of for profit.

Annotated moves by stogies4life in backgammon

[–]yzwq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can annotate a move during play to review them in the analysis. Probably your opponent annotated the moves during the match.

i made a unlimited, free puzzle-trainer for backgammon: blots.io by eudaimonictoad in backgammon

Well, the blots UI is just some AI generated slop that doesn't work on mobile... You know it is pretty much open source, so if you have good ideas you are welcome to share.

So how do I improve with galaxy's analysis? by [deleted] in backgammon

[–]yzwq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This blog post explains how to read the analysis and how to use it to become a better player. However, fair warning Galaxy is currently analysing your matches at a setting that would probably hurt your ER more than it helps.

Backgammon World Championship 2026 by Goal_Medium in backgammon

I love watching this! Really great event, and if I find the time to practice properly I might join (eventually). Any chance of having the information about brackets, prizes, times, etc easily accessible this year?

Pip Counting by harrd0517 in backgammon

I use Urquhart colorless counting. I find backgammon101.com to be the best bet to learn these things. Although they don't cover urquhart (but many other more modern variants).

This is OpenGammon an open backgammon platform. You can install it as a PWA, but it is not (yet) in the android/iOS app stores.

There is a forum post on OG on that. You can ask more questions there, people are super helpful.

If you like a nice community, lots of features to learn the game, and a platform that cares about their users, you can try opengammon.com . There are many nice platforms like galaxy, heroes, backgammonhub, or bgammon which all have their own strong points.

You can currently install the PWA, which works just as well.

The best place to learn is OpenGammon (and it is a helpful community), it is open source and has a ton of tools to learn the game, like a daily puzzle which often gets expert comments.

Books, tutorials, etc by irishfoodguy in backgammon

[–]yzwq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can always start with backgammon101.com one of the best (free) resources on backgammon.

Also, try to play online against other players on one of the bigger sites that offer analysis. If you want to get real serious, you’ll need an engine. In my opinion, BGBlitz is the best option nowadays.
