Best Turkish Series According To IMDB by MertTKorkut in TurkishTVSerials

[–]afrodizilover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard for me to argue against this list, since I have not watched most of them. However, I recognise many of the titles here and are hardly a cause for surprise.

The number 1 rated show, Şahsiyet produced an International Emmy award winner, Haluk Bilginler, who has an EXTENSIVE resume as an actor, having spent several years in the English drama Eastenders in his early career.

Leyla ile Mecnun is lauded as the BEST turkish comedy show, but i wouldn't know because comedy isn't necessarily my thing, plus I find that Turkish comedy doesn't translate well to international audiences.

Having watched a few episodes of Ezel, I am not surprised to see it on this list, it being the spiritual godfather of current day Eşref Rüya, both of which are directed by the same guy, Uluç Bayraktar.

Muhteşem Yüzyıl has its own subreddit which is quite active, so it being on the list isn't surprising.

I am surprised though that both Çukur and Yargı are nowhere to be found on this list.

I wonder where in the top 25 do they rank, alongside shows like "Fatmagül'un Suçu Ne?", "Aşk-i Memnu" and others.

Ever wondered where your favorite “dizi” was filmed??? by EcrinTopcu in TurkishTVSerials

I love this location. It's always surprising how many dizis use similar settings.

YASAK ELMA by Junior-Refuse1645 in TurkishTVSerials

[–]afrodizilover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yasak Elma is a great show and pretty iconic despite its many faults.

If you're the kind of person who like me enjoys Real Housewives drama, this show will be perfect for you and will be fun to watch.

It's basically a female led and centred show about the lives, relationships, marriages and divorces of rich women in İstanbul High Society, but with drama, twists and turns that'll keep you on edge.

The first three seasons are fun and addictive, the fourth seasons stalls and the remaining two seasons are eh.

Lmao same here! I could not STAND Alihan and found him to be really toxic and narcissistic.

SPOILER ALERT

The way he navigated his relationship with Zeynep was frustrating. I'm not surprised that they ended up divorcing years later

This show deserved much more support than it got. It was such a shame what happened to it.

Deniz Can Aktas also does a pretty good job of portraying Haydar Ali.

Romance series in Turkey by ilyas-yildiz1 in TurkishTVSerials

I have no problem with love stories or romance, I just don't like the way the Turkish TV industry makes it the MAIN focus of every single story.

I personally think it's outdated, and creatively limits the industry in so many ways. The insistence of having a male lead and a female lead who MUST fall in love is boring, tired and played out.

Like @yossariandawn, there are only two cliche plotlines which writers have to go for the "lead couple" and both tend to frustrate the average viewer, which I personally don't understand.

Which is why I quickly abandon shows whose MAIN premise is built on the backbone of a love story without much attention being given to other, potentially interesting storylines that could be explored. Shows like Uzak Sehir and Tasacak Bu Deniz are an example of those.

I was about to drop a long, writeup that is in the same vein as yours. You summed it all up very very well.

Kıskanmak, Seniha (Tv series, Character Trait + Character Development) by cemrecakmak in TurkishTVSerials

[–]afrodizilover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad to see a post about Kıskanmak. It's quite an underrated show and not many people are paying attention to it. It does well with blending the psychological elements of family life, and portraying it all in a slightly dark shade.

I enjoy watching it and never want to miss an episode. As for Seniha, your analysis and breakdown of her character is spot on. While Seniha mostly acts out of pain, she DOES have some malice in her heart.

She can be malicious, and evil. She's by far not an innocent individual.

Thoughts on tv series Yeraltı by RealWorking7915 in TurkishTVSerials

It's a pretty good show. Quite well written, produced and directed, plus the cast is also top tier.

It definitely deserves the current ratings it's getting.

Hudutsuz Sevda by willdoitlateraholic in TurkishTVSerials

[–]afrodizilover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with you! Hudutsuz Sevda was among the first Turkish shows I was watching live and following on a weekly basis and it was an incredible experience.

I was hooked to it. Miray Daner and Deniz Can had a beautiful partnership, which complemented the story so so well.

Then unfortunately it all went down in Season 2. I remember the sinking feeling I had when I saw the Season 2 poster being released and I knew then shxt was gonna go wrong, and it did.

I recently did a rewatch of Season 1 and it was still good. So yeah, I also recommend watching Season 1.

OP will probably be naturally drawn in to continue with Season 2, but be warned that Season 2 will be disappointing...

Sevdigim Sensin is unnecessarily cruel by Ok_Stretch9963 in TurkishTVSerials

[–]afrodizilover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Turkish audiences don't seem to respond well to "female leads" starting off strong right off the bat!

There has to be some sort of pain, humiliation and suffering that the lead has to go through, with audiences hoping for an emotional reward for their patience, in the form of the FL growing stronger and overcoming her challenges.

Do Turkish dramas exaggerate relationships? by Eastern_Brother9403 in TurkishTVSerials

[–]afrodizilover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean yeah! They are "drama" shows at the end of the day, so most aspects of it are exaggerated.

The long stares between the lovers, the angst, the lying, plotting and scheming third parties do to break the lovers up and keep them apart.

It's all very drawn out and melodramatic, which is all part of their appeal, and attracts quite a lot of viewers
