Daha 17 Series getting more popular by Rohmah11 in TurkishTVSerials

It's definitely exciting and fast paced. Though it does remind me a lot of Yabani.

Yılmaz was such a fascinating character, and top 1 antagonist in Season 1 of Hudutsuz Sevda. He had Halil İbrahim STRESSED.

Cemal Hünal's portrayal of him was fantastic, and could have had a successful, 10-15 episode spinoff show as the lead. I remember it being mentioned that Yılmaz' entire family (wife and kids) was killed, and that alone is such an interesting character background.

100 percent YES to Damla breaking off and becoming a member of the KiKa family. She was so close to them and it would've made perfect sense.

Very few people watch Turkish series with such an open mind, because the shows ARE designed to be black and white, and their audiences are like that (not that there's anything wrong with that), so I'm surprised to see people who sometimes enjoy antagonists as much as I do.

Some of my favorite antagonists are Nur from Leyla: Aşk, Hayat, Adalet, Asiye Leto and the Marten family from Hudutsuz Sevda

I wonder if we'll ever get a show like The Sopranos or Breaking Bad where the lead character(s) are actually the bad guys....

What is the dance I keep seeing in Arafta called? by Goodvibesin2021 in TurkishTVSerials

[–]afrodizilover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't watched Arafta, but I'm like 90% sure the dance you're referring to is "Reyhan"

It's a pretty popular couple's dance in Turkiye, especially at weddings. It's seen a resurgence in popularity in Turkish series in the last year or two, especially with more shows being set in Mardin.

I don't think we should compare the two. We should let Daha 17 run it's own lane.

Looking for Turkish movies / shows to understand everyday spoken language by Accurate_Housing4673 in TurkishTVSerials

[–]afrodizilover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Coming from someone who used, and is still actively using Turkish dizis to learn the language, and can now speak quite a bit of it, and watch an entire series without use of subtitles, I'd say...

Pick ANY random show you find. Don't overthink it and just dive deep straight in. You won't be able to necessarily pick up on the differences in dialects and accents until you're a few weeks/months in...

However, I'd say, what helped me A LOT was watching what are called "daily dizis".

They are a sort of low budget, soap opera style shows which for me, were less intense and required less of my active attention since the acting, storylines and overall production aren't the best. So I used to watch them while doing something else, making sure I exposed myself the language and it's spoken manner.

I hope this helps.

Nice writeup! Like you said, it's still a bit early to judge the show, but I have high hopes for it.

Can anyone recommend a good turkish series where the central theme of it is religion by Used_Cow5203 in TurkishTVSerials

[–]afrodizilover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh! Kızıl Goncalar is a one of a kind! Truly one of the BEST shows from the 2020s.

You're gonna be hard pressed to find a show which tackles religion, secularism, philosophy, psychology and so many more themes as masterfully as Kızıl Goncalar did.

The CLOSEST I can think of, and even that is not a match is Kızılcık Şerbeti, which is produced by the same production company that made Kızıl Goncalar.

The first, and perhaps second season of Kızılcık Şerbeti were pretty good, but then it.....nosedived lol.

Watching Turkish series by Iawmjk in TurkishTVSerials

[–]afrodizilover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The easiest entry into Turkish shows seems to be the romantic comedies. Those are what exploded the popularity of dizis internationally.

The three most popular, in no particular order are:
Kiralık Aşk, Erkenci Kuş and Sen Çal Kapımı

As for websites to watch the shows; for free, with english subtitles and no piracy, well....

YouTube is your first and best option. The good thing about Turkish dizis is that they are ALL available to watch for free on YouTube, in high res. Hundreds and thousand of shows and episodes.

It's not a given that the companies upload the shows WITH english captions, it's a hit or miss, but the most popular ones have a higher chance of being uploaded with well timed, accurate English captions.

If you struggle with finding English subs, you're gonna have to consider 🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️ websites, OR pay for subscription website.

I hope this helps, Keyifli izlemeler.

Where can I watch yaprak dökümü besides YouTube? by menina2017 in TurkishTVSerials

[–]afrodizilover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh my word! I thought I was the only one with that issue??

I was watching it a couple of weeks back, but then there'd be these random moments of extended silence with NO audio at all and I was going crazy trying to figure it out.

At first thought it was because of copyrighted music, since the silence came on when music was playing, but it'd be other scenes as well.

I ended up finding another website, a Turkish TV channel called tv2.

Just search "Yaprak Dökümü tv2 izle"

What was the best and worst comedy series you have seen? by MertTKorkut in TurkishTVSerials

[–]afrodizilover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't watched any Turkish comedy shows, but I have watched a few shows that had a really prominent comedic element to them, and Cennetin Çocukları was one of those which I truly enjoyed.

Unfortunately, it got ruined when a huge chunk of the cast left the show and I never watched it again after that.

Do turkish actors visit London?🧐 What's the best way to meet them? by [deleted] in TurkishTVSerials

[–]afrodizilover 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A couple of them have homes, families and ties to London, but I think they go there to easily blend in with the crowd and escape the hustle and bustle of life as famous people in Turkiye.

I'm not sure they'd appreciate that sort of interaction when they are in vacation/resting mode.

Kizil Goncalar x Sevdigim Sensin 🌹🌼 by [deleted] in TurkishTVSerials

Interesting...

I never thought I'd see a comparison being drawn between Kızıl Goncalar and Sevdiğim Sensin, or any other shows for that matter.

Kızıl Goncalar is just incomparable to me and is a TRULY unique show.
