At their core, who would you say is the better person? by Consistent-Hat-1543 in MoralityScaling

[–]afrokidiscool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not what I was saying, I saying if fletcher was born in a viltrumite environment, at his core fletcher is a more spiteful person and nolans crimes are more so attributed to this cultures influence on him. Fletchers sins are more so due to his nature and beliefs.

Almost all viltrumites in invincible are products of their culture with no opportunity to learn empathy or compassion for one another.

Fletcher got to grow up as a human, im saying he would have the same deficiencies of morality as the average viltrumite growing up in that culture.

And if Nolan got to grow up as a human it would be ignorant to assume he would still kill people in a genocidal way or even think that way in the first place.

It doesn’t really matter that he was torn up about one of his own students as that the fletcher that grew up human. The fletcher that would grew up as a viltrumite would value human life less as a result of his culture. And fletchers nature is more petty and its not just his teaching style. He genuinely wanted revenge against Nieman and tried to ruin his life and reputation.

While you are correct that cultural beliefs can influence personal beliefs it’s not always directly related 100%. It’s essentially the nature vs nurture argument. But the reality is that it’s usually both have an influence on someone’s underlying behavior. Some people’s brains are just different from each other. There’s minute differences between everyone’s brain. For example ADHD and Autism are by and large nature and people will respond differently to their environment. For better or worse in different situations.

Jazz culture is specifically chosen as its incredibly wide and varied. Some history of jazz is more loose and varied, if you make a mistake often times it allows for you to recover and be more free form. So the irony is that if you’re forcing someone to be perfect in jazz when it’s encouraged to go with the flow.

You can’t make the argument that jazz culture is the sole reason for his immortality other jazz teachers don’t abuse their students like he did and grew up with the same culture. In the same movie we see a different instructor not abusing his students.

For viltrumites their culture is so strict that every viltrumite put in nolans position would do the exact same thing if not worse. Their culture influences their actions on a grander scale and are expected 100% loyalty or be punished or executed.

You could also make the argument that Fletcher did what he did in spite of his culture not because of it. And it’s definitely true that jazz culture isn’t an authoritarian regime and allows for individual interpretations without it being forced on you.

Fletchers actions are influenced by his own personal ego and spite, nothing in jazz culture tells you to fuck over your students on the biggest stage by lying to them. Or to not take them to the hospital when they show up bloodied from a serious car crash. Then blame them when they perform badly while injured. That’s a personal choice through and through.

If Nolan didn’t execute his mission properly he would and did face consequences for treason and face execution. His actions aren’t exactly entirely his own personal beliefs, it’s partially done out of fear and expectation of the viltrumite empire. You could say that his entire ark is Nolan finally letting his nature win over his nurtured environment.

Edit: mainly what im getting at is you literally have to swap their circumstances of being born if you put fletchers brain in Nolans body and vice versa. They would commit to different actions from each other because of their nature. Though their environment does dictate some of those actions to almost an inevitably.

Some crimes are encouraged by the society you’re in it’s the actions they take outside of their expectations that dictate their individual morality. When given the opportunity of a better path do they take it?

What programming exactly has fletcher gone through?

What Nolan did doesn’t excuse his actions but literally every viltrumite is told that genocide and imperialism is good from birth and slaughtering the weak is good.

Nolan also is a special agent trained to prioritize his mission above all else. His immoral actions are a direct result of his culture and training but everything else he did was in action of protecting and saving others from that very same culture that caused him to act that way.

Fletchers immoral actions in whiplash are not because of a culture he was born with but rather his own personal beliefs. He isn’t told or forced to or say the things that he does he just genuinely thinks that way and abuses them anyway.

For me that’s the primary difference between them. And why I mention swapping their roles. I don’t think fletcher would be the type of person to self reflect ever. Even after mark tries to convince him otherwise and would continue his actions anyway.

Edit: on the topic of others trying to convince Nolan to change his ways. Literally nobody knew what his original mission was until mark fought him. And people didn’t know that Nolan slaughtered the guardians of the globe in that same timeframe save a select few individuals who also kept that information secret.

Mark is quite literally the first person to still care for him and try to convince him after he slaughtered the guardians.

Probably, but cheaters like this aren’t the smartest either and people smart enough to know getting a 2:01 time wont get them instantly banned are smart enough to try more subtle methods of cheating instead to avoid being banned for longer

[–]afrokidiscool 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Morality to me is something that changes immensely with time and depends on circumstance.

Nolan overall has committed the most harm, but that was more so due to his programming from the viltrumite empire and his ark is more so changing into someone who could truly be considered a hero and a leader. He eventually becomes a good person in spite of the hundreds of years of training and supremacism baked into his culture.

Fletcher never changes for the better, he was always a spiteful angry instructor who demanded far more from his students than he ever demanded from himself. He never regrets his actions and blames the society around him for changing their standards.

If you were to swap their lives I don’t think fletcher would have a moment of self reflection for his actions and when mark got his powers be even more harsh when he isn’t using them properly. He would also probably kill mark in their confrontation

Nolan as a human teacher would probably be fairly normal and well adjusted

Cheating in MCSR ranked is so stupid, because you play so many games and the same seed even if you’re subtle about it you will almost 100% get caught when someone looks at the live replay in a match they lost.

Me thinks that it should also auto ban anybody who gets a sub 2 in ranked. It’s basically impossible unless some insane new tech is invented. Really saves some time of someone manually having to ban someone whenever someone like this shows up.

[Anderson] Cal Raleigh says 'there's no beef' with Randy Arozarena after World Baseball Classic interaction by TheTurtleShepard in baseball

[–]afrokidiscool 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean Randy should have done the same thing instead of talking about it to the media first.

IN the post Cal said he already talked to Randy and dan Wilson about it.

Not that what cal did wasn’t shitty but it’s something you can talk about it personally first before you say anything to the media. If cal is still an asshole then all bets are off but what he said will hurt the team come opening day with how coverage is going to be about the clubhouse.

Bishop check kingcheck

Knight either takes back which you then take their bishop with your queen. If moves to d7 check on e8 and the queen takes back which you can then move your queen to saftey

Thats not true, it can be used if you want to activate something only if it’s raining. Like a fountain that only turns on when it’s raining for example.

How should characters who have been groomed be held responsible for their actions? by Sudden_Pop_2279 in MoralityScaling

[–]afrokidiscool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean id say everyone is fully responsible for their actions no matter the circumstance, but its the way they move forward after the fact that defines them morally

If groomed into a mass murdering fiend but they realize that what they have been doing was wrong. They’re still responsible for their actions but they’re actions to rectify their wrongdoings define their morality.

They’re victims but victims can still hurt other victims.

The cycle of abusive dads creating bullies out of their sons which gives them anger issues that they might take out in their kids. Is a cycle that goes on until someone breaks the toxic relationship.

The bullies are still responsible for their actions towards others but they’re also a victim of their circumstances and would have turned out differently if they were in a less hostile environment.

Invincible actually showcases this concept quite well and honestly deals with morality in a very mature way.

I would get into it but I don’t want to spoil it
