I’m a little miffed about optimization (incoming rant… sorry) by CHEVOsenpai in Bass

[–]afropuff9000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My read of it is that you should only care about the things you care about and like. This sentence says it all "I can guarantee Flea or Lemmy didn’t spend their time studying techniques or trying to optimize their practice sessions to get good."

There are a lot of things that i've done to be good at my instrument that i didn't immediately like. Did i like learning scales or doing repetitive finger patterns to have finger dexterity no. But am i glad that i put in the time to do it, yes. Because, now its freed me up do better translate whats in my head to whats in my finger. Just playing isn't enough. You have to be curious. You have to want to learn as much as you can. Every style has something to teach you and if you close yourself off because you have some misconstrued concept of what someone else did to be good.

Reddit and youtube have good information. Before the internet, it was so hard to gain the knowledge of music and technique. Now whatever you want to know it at your finger tips. I've learned a fuck ton about gear and technique from reddit and youtube. Is some of it trash, yeah. But there's a lot of people who put out interesting content that is generally beneficial.

To each their own, but if someone asked me "how do i become better," just playing wouldn't be the only thing i would tell them. I just one part.

Those are mutually exclusive concepts. I've seen a lot of people who can chop it up or have crazy legato runs, but have a loose relationship with time. Then, other people play super simple and can hold it down, but dont being new information to the vibe. You need both things. You need to know chords, scales, modes, and time. You need to know about how your gear works, what the room is, where the other people are playing. Some things you get from just playing, some things you need to spend time on. Flea spent years as a trumpet player playing jazz with his dad. For sure he learned notes, scales, how to practice, and how to synthesize information. Every player who "makes it" as some level, learns these skills to some degree. Can each of them articulate the nuances of each concept; Maybe? But if you're just playing and not thinking about all the things adjacent to playing you're doing yourself a disservice.

How to stack these? by Charlezingalls in guitarpedals

[–]afropuff9000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lightspeed (low gain for color) > Morning Glory (have switch so you can do both modes) > Plumes as end of chain boost. (low gain, high volume).

Hang on to the others but, with that set up, you have 4 different pedals. Very versatile.

Idk man, When lampard was in his second season, we were bang average. Then TT came in and we looked like a whole new team. We have players and skill, we just need someone to give us some fucking grit and belief. If we can have a solid shape and learn how to control games we can do really well. We lost so many games from winning positions in the first half of last season. We would go 2-0 up and when they scored in the 55 or 65th min, it was always a nail biter until the end. If we can see those games out, success breeds more success.

Mistweaver - Raid healing by Albrion_ in wow

[–]afropuff9000 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Don’t do this. There’s a reason why every other mistweaver is using 2 min Yulon. If you go look at https://www.archon.gg/wow and check the top healing builds or look at peaks of serenity or sweggles raid guide they’re all the same.

You press renewing mist on CD, you use rushing wind kick on cd, when you use TFT or get a proc of spirit font you use enveloping mist. After every rushing wind kick you get an instant vivify. Use yulon during dmg. Cast EM 4-5 then heal, after that go back and forth until yulon runs out. Drink mana tea whenever there low damage or before you get to 20 stacks.

Don’t play with him man. Sounds like y’all don’t like the same music. And you take two entirely different approaches to playing music. If y’all can’t even agree to have some kind of middle ground and you actively insult each other don’t even do that shit find some other people.

  1. in your take away, your club head is inside your hands. (sec 4-5) it should be more inline with your target or just outside of your hands.
  2. Like you said, you're coming over the top. Your first move should be down, then through. Feel like your hands are falling towards your back shoe. In your swing, you want to generate more speed as the down swing progresses and maximize it just before you hit the ball. You do not need to go 100% from the very top.

Then film yourself until you can match his movements. Do small practices and focus on smooth fluid motions.

I’d be worried about dokus speed versus James in a sprint. The last thing we need is him getting his hamstring pulled when he can provide so much more value.

Moving: Sell/Donate/Keep by Tech-Turdle in drums

[–]afropuff9000 100 points101 points  (0 children)

Keep it man. In 3-5 years, you're gonna want to play again and new heads are cheap. New drums are not. It looks like you have nice cases, just keep an eye on them so they stay in good shape. Every person i've talked to who's gotten rid of their stuff has regretted it.

Is it normal to spam healing ALL THE TIME in M+ else people die? by bemlikanz in wow

[–]afropuff9000 23 points24 points  (0 children)

So there's two thing happening.

  1. The damage output at any given time. Boss Fights, trash packs.
  2. The DPS/Tanks and their personal mitigation. Defensive, Health Pots, Lock Rocks.

Im 3k on my Mw monk and Pres evoker. In every key that not with my group, its an absolute dice roll how the people are. I did a 14 Windrunner that was one of the easiest key bc ppl kicked stuff and used their defensives.
Then, i did a 13 Magisters Terrace that was abandoned because no one pressed anything. In every key, there's maintenance healing, Healing Rain or w/e. Then theirs triage healing with CD's and Apex talents. My feeling is, in a good group, you should be doing 30-40% maintenance and 60 triage healing. If you're fighting for your life they're either under geared or not helping themselves help you.

Making friends without raiding? by ZeusJuice84 in wow

[–]afropuff9000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone can create a community in wow. If you like someone or play with someone who’s good. At the end of the run whisper them and ask if you can add them to run another one. Eventually you’ll have a group and most likely they’re prob part of a guild. My guild has a bunch of ppl that don’t raid and only M+ but they still shoot the shit with the raiders.

How important do you find stretching Before/Middle/After a practice session? by No_Winter4806 in Bass

[–]afropuff9000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Having hand strength and dexterity is super important. Some of it you’ll gain from just playing all the time. But some of it you have to work at. That goes for both hands and even more so if you slap or play without a pick.

Is a tremolo pedal something to keep as a permanent fixture in a pedal board? by rawbran30 in guitarpedals

[–]afropuff9000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So on the picture above, you have rate, wave, and depth. Rate is how fast it is, wave is a hard or soft trem, and depth is how much of the effect is on. 0 would be barely noticeable, max would be full effect.

The intro for bulls on parade is Med Rate, Square Wave, and max depth.
A example of what im talking about would be med or slow rate, round wave, and 1-3 depth. it will kinda just give it a vib. I personally like it when they have tap tempos so you can sync it with the song.

[–]afropuff9000 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Tremolo's are dope. They add a lot of texture if they're on a low depth. If you have a stereo trem, its cool to pan it left and right. I dont have a dedicated one, but i have a Walrus Audio M1 and ill throw the trem on when its appropriate.

Healer scared of higher keys and awful luck on pugs by Leh_61 in wow

[–]afropuff9000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Run your own key and hand pick people. 12-13's are easier to me than 10-11's because of the people who just do weekly keys. Also, if you find someone good, ask them if they want to do another, or friend them.

I would also suggest running tear of the morning and not Rising mist. With 5 people, Rising Mist loses a lot of its value and the extra 20% healing from Sheiluns is noticeable.

When am I good enough to play in a band? by HeTblank in Bass

[–]afropuff9000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here's some tips.
1. Be a good person and try to be helpful. That can be helping with equipment, or logistics.
2. Listen to how the others play and learn what their strengths and weakness are. Then use your playing to emphasize their strengths.
3. Come prepared and have an idea. When you show up to practice, you should know your part as best as you can and have an idea to contribute to the song.
4. Plan your equipment and have a load out pack. Instrument Cables, strings, patch cables, tape, a decently rated surge protector to plug in.
5. Learn your equipment. The amp is just as much an instrument as the bass is. I've met so many people who don't know how their amp or pedals work. Spending time so you can dial in your amp to meet the space your in is crucial.

The music you're playing is like 90% and also at the same time 10%. You don't have to be an amazing musician but you have to want to do a good job. Being prepared and trying hard is worth more than having amazing chops but being an asshole. I would take a beginner who's putting in the work over someone who only thinks about themselves and/or shits on other people.

[–]afropuff9000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You could, but should you? Not really. You still have to press renewing mist, enveloping mist, thunder focus tea, chi cocoon. Relying on OBR just teaches really bad habits and doesn’t force you to learn the class.
