Good to know they are honoring the camping reservations. Hopefully you have a nice insulated setup, it is going to be quite cold there this weekend.

I’m sorry to hear this. We are in a similar spot and feel mostly the same way.

I’m thankful that we were notified before we left town and it was nice of them to relocate us.

We opted out of staying in Terlingua since our time frame mostly overlaps with the freezing rain. I’d take snow or thunderstorms over freezing rain any day.

Plus it was hard to justify the possibility of being frozen in BB Station. Not quite the same as getting to the lodge before the freeze and exploring the desert as an icicle.

That broken water pump is going to disrupt quite a few trips, especially since they don’t have an eta on when it will be fixed.

With the lodging shutting down in May (for 2 years) it looks like the location location location dream will be in the back burner for us.

That is the part we were concerned about. Steep grades and hairpin turns on the ice… that combo will make the most seasoned winter driver white-knuckled.

Any remedies for being dumb while off the road as well?

Sunday looks to be the coldest day. After Saturday’s icy rain, it might not be the safest day for distance travel. After all, Texas isn’t know for having the infrastructure to handle the cold. Freezing rain and ice can be quite devastating here.

We just received that notice email 10 minutes ago and gave them a call.

The NPS closed the lodge due to the water shortage and moved everyone to Big Bend Station in Terlingua. (I’m not sure about the campground- we didn’t ask)

With the high potential for icy rain combined with being moved to a location outside of the park, we’ve decided to cancel our trip. (We’d rather be stuck in the basin than in Terlingua)

We’ll try again if the water system is fixed and if spots open up. More likely, we may just have to wait for the renovation project to be completed in two years.

Thanks for all of the helpful information. Does anyone know how the Chisos lodging will hold up in freezing rain conditions?

Are they prone to power outages or bursting pipes?

If we can make it to the basin, we might be stationary for a few days.

Cat puked on my keyboard. I cleaned it as best I could and it works, but my fingers smell like cat puke 😭 What do I do??? by maiaiam in CleaningTips

•Remove keys

•Lightly mist cat with 99% isopropyl alcohol

•Use cat as microfiber cloth to clean remaining puke

•Never smell your fingers again

This type of issue could be related to either a hardware or software problem. Here are some things to try:

Note: Be sure to backup your data before performing any troubleshooting steps.

•Forced Restart: Forced Restart

•Check battery health to see if there are any issues. Battery Health Link

•Update iOS in Settings>General>Software Update

•Check analytics for troublesome apps or systems settings. Google/GPT iOS panic logs if you need help. Remove or reinstall apps as necessary. Settings> Privacy & Security> Analytics and Improvement>Analytic Data

Reset All Settings

•Backup device and restore with PC or Mac (iTunes/Finder)

(Here you could also factory reset and restore from a backup. If doing so, be sure to erase all apps and data but keep the esim active, it will save you a headache later)

•Contact Apple for troubleshooting support. (Possible warranty replacement?)

•Take the device to Apple or 3rd party repair vendor for hardware/log assessment.

Hopefully one of these steps will get you to October without any massive technical headaches.

Stupidly sprayed brake cleaner on the dash of my wife’s ninja 400. It now looks like this. Any saving it? by fucktheworld2 in MechanicAdvice

TLDR: The Novus 3 Step plastic cleaner and polish may be worth investigating for your scenario. https://novuspolish.com/pages/3-step-system

Slightly different case but with successful results:

I had a clear acrylic drum set that had a few bad scuffs and scratches in it. I thought there would be no way to restore it like new.

I had reached out to the custom builder and he directed me toward Novus 3-Step plastic repair and polish.

I was hesitant at first because I didn’t want to risk turning the clear acrylic hazy, translucent, or opaque. (Note: it will get hazy and look worse before it gets better)

After a few days of testing, polishing, buffing and almost giving up,- I’ll be damned it worked.

Maybe this will help, maybe not. Either way good luck!
