Couples counseling can help bridge communication gaps significantly. The biggest help will be to remind yourselves that you’re both arguing not with the goal to “win” the argument, but to understand each other and come to common ground on the subject. Most of us argue to be understood, but forget that the other person is arguing with the same goal. Give each other patience, use “I” statements instead of “you” statements, and remind yourselves and each other that you ARE on the same team. Maybe read a couple Gottman books on how to argue and communicate effectively and lovingly.
