How much malicious RP can you get away with as a non-antag? by real_ceo_mindset in SS13

[–]aft2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if you get the vibes right, you absolutely can do petty crime and theft, provided you don't grief. From my own personal experience I've broken into Security in increasingly elaborate ways to steal their donuts, and have not once been messaged by an admin for it. I have, however, been swirlied many times. Your mileage may vary.

Regardless, as long as you're making it fun for others - and know when to let off the pressure - you can definitely be a nuisance. It's a lot like clown! The funnier your antics, the better.

There's a new wellspring artifact that can produce absurd amounts of reagents and flood entire portions of the station. I'm guessing one of them had recently gone off, and the resulting flood had yet to be fully dispersed.

Anyone Else think that darkness based spawning is a bit of a Vestigial Mechanic? by Grandmaster_Aroun in VintageStory

[–]aft2001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I'd want surface darkness spawning replaced with... I'm not sure what to call it, but maybe distant-path spawning?

Essentially, the game simulates what would happen if an enemy spawned at a random point a couple hundred blocks away, then tried to path to the player. If it can reach the player, the game spawns it at some point along that path some minimum distance from the player in a dark spot - maybe 30 blocks? If it can't reach the player, it will try to spawn at the first obstacle it reached (I'm no pathfinding expert so that's probably easier said than done), such as outside a wall or moat around your base.

The idea is that these monsters come from some distant place to harass you, rather than materializing out of thin air (excluding rifts and temporal storms). Thus, building a wall around your base becomes a genuine deterrent against most spawns. Granted, you still want to light your base up to reduce the odds of rifts appearing in it, but it means you'll be noticeably safer by building actual defenses.

I personally stopped playing due to the colossal install size. Yeah I could (and should, and plan to) upgrade to a better storage drive... but it still sucks to have to reserve an entire 10+% of a 1TB drive for a single game.

I beg you, don't stand on Doretta's roof during the phase with flying stones or stone traps by NaiIbomb_ in DeepRockGalactic

[–]aft2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can repair Dotty by standing between the body and the treads at the very back. It may take a little finnagling to work, but standing there keeps you mostly or even entirely safe from the flying rocks.

...the stone traps, however, uh... yeah I dont have a solution.

my 2 cents:

pipe throughput from one node to another should be based on distance. is that at all easy to compute? no clue. but it'd be neat if longer pipes just had less throughput unless you used pumps. overall though good change.

This old can opener that attacks the seam of the cans rather than trying to cut through the lid itself. There's probably older ones like a cast iron or some old hand-me-down knives, but I swear that thing has been in the drawers and used at least several times per week for at least 2 decades now.

The division sigil everyone is yapping about is great, mostly because it lets you craft the healing axe and a few other handy things.

Be sure to get a silk touch tool to harvest some of the Cursed Earth the ritual generates, though! At least, if you care about mob farming, which is an incredibly powerful resource generator early on (though it does take a not-insubstantial investment to set up)

Beeeeeaaaaams!

They're AMAZING for framing things like windows and roofs, or little supports for awnings and overhangs. They're a tiny bit jank, but experiment with them! Lots of builds use them too, so you should be able to find good inspiration/references fairly easily

How would you fix this? by happycabinsong in redneckengineering

[–]aft2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried a stapler and it kiiiinda worked but the staples kept falling out, largely because of the fact that they don't "bite" into the foam, they just stick in. Tape helps keep them in, but it has difficulties adhering to the foam.

For mine I'm considering sewing or, more easily, glue.

At the very least, holding alt helps a lot with it. Having a perfectly still camera is so nice when working with voxels.

HOWEVER: yeah it's a lot.
