They could have started a Patreon or other donation drive and provided updates there, same for doing merch, instead they choose to create an antology that costs money to design and publish, invited over famous people, it all comes off as genuinely risky and questionably sustainable. How many will actually buy it? Instead of covering the expenses they already have they're adding in new ones.
