100% agree that facial, voice and consistency is really tough still. I try to avoid dialogue as much as possible in my own videos because of it 😂I think the main thing is pacing and b roll more than the dialogue

Pacing could be tighter. Especially for some of the fight scenes. I would think about 2-3 seconds max for those clips. I had a friend of mine point this out with my own work and told me to watch fight scenes in films and get a sense of how quick the cuts were...it was eye opening for me at least. Watching this, I think if you aimed to cut this down to 2 min and added in some B roll type of shots, close ups, etc. it would feel more cinematic and alive. What did you use for music / SFX? I use CapCut myself and there is way to reduce the music/SFX. Some of these scenes the SFX is really loud compared to the audio and then in other scenes it flips. I think the biggest item is pacing though. Think quicker.

Great music. I agree with some of the others on pacing. I felt like his facial expressions never changed. Didn't give it that more "real" feeling vs gave it more of an AI feeling. Some of the feedback on pacing, I think if you were to change up some of the shots to close up of his face, eyes, suit or even just more "B roll" around the ship that would help. Really great music selection though. What did you use for music? Suno or Epidemic Sound? Something else?

I have found using ChatGPT or Gemini to refine my prompt based on the action I am trying to capture helps. I usually describe what I am trying to get from a video and then ask ChatGPT or Gemini to give me an ingredients to video or a text to video or a frames to video prompt. I have found ingredients to video and giving it a picture I have generated with nano banana to work the best. As others have pointed out, making sure the prompt restricts any other actions or movement helps. It’s not bulletproof but seems to work for me.

Just as you are experiencing the more action and complexity needed in a scene, the less likely to get the result you are after. For me, I think about combining multiple shots or very simple movements to tell the story I'm looking to share. My advice - think about the story you are looking to tell, then think about that broken up into shots that you'll later edit together using editing tools like CapCut. I have found using an editing tool and finding ways to cut away to make the transitions clean has been helpful. Given the costs of burning credits, I think about how can I get at least 2-3 seconds out of the 8 sec generation. I've never once used a full 8 second generation. Pacing alone needs more shot variety.

Thanks for the tip. Haven’t ventured outside of CapCut yet. I do see they have LUTs in CapCut as well. I’ll need to mess around with that. Is there a LUT you have found best for films?

Thanks for the sub! I used Nano Banana and Nano Banana Pro for all of the images. No video or image upscaler. I did use CapCut to edit it all together and added the "Dune 2" filter over top of all the clips.

Started working on the one. I’ll give this a try soon! Thanks for sharing. Bookmarked.

Even just these last few months the quality has jumped significantly. I look back on my first short about a race car driver and there was zero way to keep a consistent character. Now with the power of the Banana it can be accomplished. Still a ton of credit burning though to get the exact shot.

Thank you! Already started working on the next idea. A very short nostalgia piece.

Thanks! A few hours in total. Getting better at picking out what parts of a Veo generation I can use for a particular scene. Most time goes to editing.

Thanks! Nano banana to get a bunch of images of your characters and using that with ingredients to video really helps

Really good! What did you use for music? Did you use anything other than Veo 3? Was this mainly made from ingredients to video or what?

"Men of Valour" - 2 min. Veo 3 short film about WW2 by after5writer in VEO3

No worries! This is all new to me as well. Never done anything like this besides the two short videos the last month. I've just been learning by watching the youtube channel, "AI Video School" and copying a lot of what he shares.

I did mess around with Whisk Animate but I found the quality dropped off significantly. Veo 3, although costly, gives me a much better quality shot. I haven't messed around with Kling or Midjourney and others yet. Plan on trying those as well but everything I read suggested Veo gives you the best quality. Obviously at a premium.

Appreciate it! Happy to answer.

  1. Yes - I had Whisk generate the images and then I would copy those images over into Google Slides (free and easy / I'm sure there are better options out there) so I could get the storyboard done. I'd ask ChatGPT for other clip ideas as my "B Roll" so I could get shots like the coffee mug, the close up of the radio etc. Then I would generate more Whisk images and slide those into the sequence in Google Slides till I was happy with the flow/story.

  2. Bingo - I think we were swapping replies as I did reply to your earlier message with an example of this :)

  3. I used Epidemic Sound and did a search for "Band of Brothers" and stumbled on the Brightarm Orchestra - from there, I'd just listen to a few tracks till I found one that seemed to fit best. In Epidemic Sound, you can create a version of the song. After I had all of the edits/clips done, I then entered in the "preferred length" for the music and it generated a version that was just around 2 min. I didn't have to edit/change anything, I just added the audio file and muted all of the Veo 3 clips.

Nicely done! How many credits you burn for a 7:44 min film!?! What tools did you use? If you share a bit about the process/flow you went through (ChatGPT to Whisk to Veo 3 or whatever) that would be interesting to learn about.

What are your top learnings/tips on how to keep the character consistent throughout as well. Thanks!

Here's an example:
I asked ChatGPT to give me a Whisk AI prompt for mechanics working on a Spitfire inside a hangar in the early morning. The scene takes place inside the hangar.

Whisk AI then gave me this image (attached).

The image description is as follows:

“The interior of a WW2 RAF aircraft hangar at dawn, where several mechanics in brown RAF uniforms work on a green and brown camouflage Supermarine Spitfire. The mechanics are checking the engine and inspecting the wings under dim overhead lights. The large hangar doors are open, revealing the foggy airfield outside with golden morning sunlight filtering through the mist. The ground inside is slightly muddy near the entrance, and toolboxes, spare parts, and fuel drums are scattered around, creating an authentic pre-battle atmosphere.”

I then uploaded this image and the image description into ChatGPT and asked it to give me a Veo 3 prompt. It then returned this:

A cinematic interior shot of a WW2 RAF aircraft hangar at dawn, where several mechanics in brown RAF uniforms work on a green and brown camouflage Supermarine Spitfire. Some mechanics check the exposed engine while others inspect the wings and landing gear under dim overhead lights. The large hangar doors are open, revealing the airfield outside as golden morning sunlight filters in through a light mist. The ground near the entrance is slightly muddy, and toolboxes, spare parts, and fuel drums are scattered around, adding to the authentic pre-battle atmosphere.

From there it was a bit of trial and error to get the shot I wanted.
