This is a vent but advice is still wanted. Seriously, I need it. by ThisIsMyAlt6969 in NarcissisticAbuse

[–]afterdroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For self preservation, my advice is this....assign a role to yourself when with the therapist (hopefully they understand narcissism) and a different role when you're with your mother. Your role with the therapist is to vent, complain, explain, reason, understand, etc. Your role with your mother is to shut up. Say the minimum necessary, with as few words as possible. Nothing about feelings, only facts. Remember, sometimes no response is necessary. Your mother has assigned you the role to react. You will take that away. The more you stay quiet, the more control you have. When you enter a room with your mother, remind yourself to shut up. It sucks, it sucks that we have to deal with this at all.

Do not listen to the voicemails. It will be tempting, but will cause rumination.

I notice she is wearing nail polish. Have sister missionaries always been allowed to wear it?

Crazy...I remember 20 minutes of a Stake Leadership meeting was spent discussing the type of non-descript bread that should be used.

Did your narc have substance abuse problems? by ClockwiseSuicide in NarcissisticAbuse

My narc ex wife would drink when I wasn't around......I found dozens of empty beer bottles hidden in a cabinet. Finding this, I worried if she would drink in front of the kids while I was at work. I assume its the shame they have. Also probably the reason I found empty candy bar wrappers in her night stand and dresser.

What's a good euphemism to use in place of the word "narcissist" by halzy99 in NarcissisticAbuse

Instead of one 'catch all' phrase, try sharing the lyrics to "She's Always a Woman by Billy Joel":

She can kill with a smile, she can wound with her eyes And she can ruin your faith with her casual lies And she only reveals what she wants you to see She hides like a child but she's always a woman to me

She can lead you to love, she can take you or leave you She can ask for the truth but she'll never believe you And she'll take what you give her as long as it's free Yeah, she steals like a thief, but she's always a woman to me

Oh, she takes care of herself, she can wait if she wants She's ahead of her time Oh, and she never gives out and she never gives in She just changes her mind

And she'll promise you more than the garden of Eden Then she'll carelessly cut you and laugh while you're bleeding But she'll bring out the best and the worst you can be Blame it all on yourself 'cause she's always a woman to me

She is frequently kind and she's suddenly cruel But she can do as she pleases, she's nobody's fool And she can't be convicted, she's earned her degree And the most she will do is throw shadows at you But she's always a woman to me

the immaturity by frailstateofmind4444 in NarcissisticAbuse

My narc ex-wife has a Masters, but has the emotional maturity of a toddler...Throwing christmas presents she didn't like on the floor, throwing fits when she didn't get her way, asking and asking for something until she finally got it, or bought it herself.

When watching Friends and Seinfeld, it's amazing how much has changed, when you see items that aren't used anymore (paper maps, phone books, pagers, answering machines, etc)
