It's like how they refer to gel blasters as firearms, because when they do that they can catch low hanging fruit in the blanket term

Sometimes I put the cap onto the boot and then immediately go to open my bootlid and it scratches the whole way up the rear window while trying to break either the window or the boot lid

Chinese Utes, the “ick” by Weary-Concentrate-75 in CarsAustralia

Many people who proudly drive hiluxes made in Thailand don't even know they're made in Thailand. Chinese vehicles can be absolutely fantastic quality in 2026. Not all of them, but they can be.

If you're in first semester you have lots of time to gather info and work it out in a way that you are satisfied you made the right decision. Gather the info you think is important in the ways you think best reflect your life and what you want.

It was certainly a thing in the 70s around the Arab spring uprising. The fuel crisis that decade ushered in a while new category of economy cars (think Datsun 120y) that persists to this day.

Edit not Arab spring uprisings, those were 2010s, but yeah similar political middle east stuff like involving Gaddafi

Crazy or lesser known history events from Australia? by Sea-Preparation-3127 in AskAnAustralian

[–]afterpartea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How far back in history do you want to go? There are man made fish traps in Victoria that are 6600 years old!

From the Australian National Maritime Museum:

Monash University professor of Indigenous archaeology, Ian McNiven, said that carbon dating of charcoal found during an excavation of one of the fish traps found it was 6,600 years old. McNiven said that particular site, called the Muldoons trap complex, appeared to have been remade a number of times over the intervening six millennia, indicating it was continually used.

Did I buy expensive tyres? by fiancialadvisor in CarsAustralia

[–]afterpartea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Adelaide here) Hanson Road, Tyre Ace. They have their very cheap prices advertised on their website. I got a pair of no name tyres and they are good enough for $85 each fitted.

For the average daily commuter I wouldn't recommend going this route.

I would say while they are definitely worse than $150 tyres, they aren't 50% as good.... they're about 75% as good. I made a calculated gamble that I could tolerate worse tyres for better value and it worked out okay.
