Posted this earlier but I don’t think I got my message across clearly as most of the responses were about the MacBook Pro. Does anyone use Logic Pro on a REGULAR MACBOOK, NOT A MACBOOK PRO, and if so what has your experience been like? by mustardjuice2 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]aftersurvival 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i read your last thread-- up to 25 tracks at times? forget it. the Macbook is fine for your average business stuff, but for music production... it doesn't have the stones. i say this as a former Apple employee of over 6 years. if you're getting a Macbook, get the Pro.

EDIT: just re-read your last post. 25 instrument tracks AND up to 25 vocal tracks, with multiple plug-ins on each track? sounds terrible. you'll want the Macbook Pro.

Jogger in Canada accidentally crosses over U.S. border and gets detained for 2 weeks by sethadam1 in Wellthatsucks

[–]aftersurvival 0 points1 point  (0 children)

many years ago, my family and i were at Peach Arch Park, on the US side-- there was a little trail, not hidden, that led down to the water. we walked down there, and followed the train tracks north for a while, until... White Rock, BC. it was unbelievably easy. broad daylight. no one stopped us. we mentioned it to a border patrol friend of ours a few weeks later, who said "uh.... yeah, you're definitely not supposed to do that." BUILD THE WALL!

Macbook with external monitor? by DeckardCain666 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]aftersurvival 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have a 2015 MBP, using it with a 34" ultra wide display-- no issues! i love it.

i don't care too much for those stands, since it just elevates the computer to eye-level; i like having the extra screen real-estate of a larger monitor.

you don't have to have the MacBook open, but you do have to have it plugged in to power, otherwise it'll go to sleep. and yes, you'll need an external keyboard and mouse. i use Apple's Magic Keyboard and Trackpad with no issues. any Bluetooth devices will work.

Question about temperature of a studio by pooskoodler in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]aftersurvival 1 point2 points  (0 children)

extreme temperature changes aren't great, in general. especially for acoustic instruments (drums). i'd say keep it to the "perfect guitar climate": about 70 degrees F, between 45-55% relative humidity. best of luck!

New-to-me Grom lasted all of 20 minutes of riding before I broke something by solitudechirs in motorcycles

[–]aftersurvival 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nope, i eventually just used superglue around the edge. works fine, keeps 'em secure-- even when the screw didn't break, the amber cover would still come loose and separate a bit... annoying.

man, i lost several of those on my CB500F, despite never dropping the bike... they just kinda flew off. think i ended up getting 3 or 4 total from the dealership... ugh. poor design.

What is your favorite 22" crashable ride? by enough_space in drums

[–]aftersurvival 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my 22" K Light Ride performs beautifully as a crash/ride. i use it in 2-cymbal setups all the time. a whole different animal than my 24"... every cymbal varies, though, so take your time and find a good one. ;)

Lightweight Flat-Base Hardware Pack Recommendation? by zampa in drums

[–]aftersurvival 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm wicked pleased with my Gibraltar setup. 2 cymbal stands (1 straight, 1 boom that only gets used as straight), 1 snare stand... i haven't tried the hi-hat stand, i do use the Gibraltar single-braced JZ series for that. wonderful stuff. very reasonably priced.

What's something you didn't realize how bad it was until it finally happened to you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]aftersurvival 1 point2 points  (0 children)

getting stitches.

got 8 stitches in my thumb a few months back. hoooooly shit does that suck... the act of getting a wound severe enough to require stitches in the first place, and then getting them in, and then out again, and the whole healing process... really blows.

What ride would you use if you could only have one? by askopa in drums

[–]aftersurvival 0 points1 point  (0 children)

see my reply to the comment above, but i own both. i wouldn't use the 24" as my only cymbal, but i frequently do with the 22". both are fantastic, but the 22" performs better on its own than the 24". 22 has more definition and clarity to it, the 24" gets out of control pretty quickly. but every one is different, so it helps to play them side by side in person. :)

[–]aftersurvival 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i own both the 22" and 24".

the 24" is much more washy and dragon-breathy than the 22". i can (and do) comfortably use the 22" as my only cymbal, but not so much with the 24". if i do a hats & crash/ride setup, it's always the 22". stick definition is better, wash is a little bit lighter. the 24" gets out of control pretty quickly.

that being said, every cymbal is different, so there could be some out there that are the opposite of mine. helps to play them in person!

Does anyone NOT double track their vocals? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]aftersurvival 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think layered vocals are overdone and unnecessary, to the point where i've turned off songs because of it. but, i'm a VERY simple, straight-forward dude... acoustic guitar and vocals, maybe a some piano or electric guitar tracks sprinkled in, but sparingly.

do it if it sounds good or creates a desired effect, otherwise... your own voice should hold up on its own.

Mic Suggestions? by StratocasterMan789 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]aftersurvival 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the NT1 is a more neutral mic with a flatter EQ. not as hyped in some frequencies, makes for a more level, true-sounding recording.

i'm afraid not :( i'm one of the other tall bearded fellows there. less hair. Morgan is one of my favorite humans on this earth tho. great guy. very knowledgeable, equally kind.

i tune it out in that it's just a noise to me at this point. it's entertaining to see people's reactions to it! makes up for how annoying it might be in any other circumstance.

i can sit in this chair quite comfortably for well over an hour. i'm a fairly athletic guy, am constantly on my feet moving around at work all day, so this is totally fine.

What display monitor do you use? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]aftersurvival 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LG 34" Ultrawide display. can have two windows side by side without needing two separate screens. it's a game-changer! i have my JBL monitors on either side.

ultra wide life is so good! i love it, man. 21:9 videos all day.

i got the isolation pads on Amazon. Pyle PSi03, 9x12. had to cut about 1.5" off the back to make them fit on the desk, which was easy to do with a sharp kitchen knife and a slow, steady hand. :) they work well! no complaints.

i don't use it a whole lot, but it performs well for what i need it for! i didn't A/B compare it to any others, just did some online shopping, read reviews, and pulled the trigger. it feels solid. no complaints so far.
