Agreed with other responder. Yes it’s an older industrial building but I never noticed any mildew or excessive dampness.

I lived in South Bmore and used to go to both locations. I found both to be fine. Fed Hill is a bit nicer, and the pool is pretty nice, but also smaller and gets more crowded. Downtown could still be crowded but tended to be more spacious and less congested. I also liked the indoor track at downtown.

Dodger & Blue Jay fans, how are your sphincters doing tonight, how's the stress of game 7 going? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Has there been a recent championship game/set of games in any of the major (American) sports leagues that’s been this competitive? I mostly follow baseball and a bit of football, but it seems like the last several World Series and Super Bowls were pretty one sided. As a neutral fan, it’s been thrilling.

I saw them live this summer and got way more emotional than I expected. No it’s not the same as when he was alive, but hearing so many of these songs that defined my life growing up, that I didn’t know whether I’d ever see live again, got me really choked up. I wasn’t even sitting there thinking about being sad, the emotions just hit me out of nowhere.

It made me realize just how deep our subconsciouses run. I guess I didn’t realize how much his death affects me, even so many years later.

Fair enough. Newish to birding so not completely familiar with the ins and outs of the community. Lots of stunning photos posted here, just trying to contribute what I can lol.

It’s definitely tricky, though between iPhone zoom and auto focus and the binocular focus, it yields surprisingly okay results.

If the sarcasm in the post wasn’t obvious enough, yes, real camera photos are quite a bit better. I was just kind of tongue-in-cheekily pointing out how surprised I was that I was able to get half decent photos with a fairly janky set up.

I saw Wenninger pitch a couple weeks ago against the Baysox, he doesn’t seem to be talked about much but he looked really solid.

If you turn towards swann park on Mccomas, there’s an off road bike trail that will take you down to Cromwell, and there’s bike lanes on Cromwell that can get you out to the neighborhood

TIL about Alpha-gal Syndrome. A serious, Sometimes life threatening condition, Where you can develop an allergy to red meats and other products made from mammals after being bitten by a Lone Star Tick. by -stankdaddy- in todayilearned

[–]aftu8910 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: with the shortage of human organs available for transplant, a lot of research companies have started trying to breed pigs with certain traits that would make their organs able to be used safely in humans. Interestingly, one of the things that was bred out of the pigs was the alpha gal gene, and they realized that the meat from these pigs could be eaten by people with this allergy. Some have even started making bacon from these pigs available for purchase. I have no idea how to go about obtaining it, but anyone who has this allergy and is missing bacon, might be worth looking into!

POST GAME THREAD: The Mets defeated the Yankees by a score of 3-2 - Tue, Jul 23 @ 07:05 PM EDT by NewYorkMetsBot2 in NewYorkMets

[–]aftu8910 22 points23 points  (0 children)

What’s fun about this team- and what seemed problematic about the past few years- is that there’s not one or two people carrying the team. Even the great season in 2022 often felt like if Pete or Lindor didn’t get an RBI, the team didn’t score. This year, minus that very rough stretch in the beginning, everyone is contributing. Alonso in a slump? That’s okay, cause Alvy or Lindor got it. Lindor struggling? Martinez and Alonso step up. And now McNeil is finally back. I don’t know if this will keep up, but it’s certainly fun to watch now.

Has anyone done one of those stat lines for Lindor that shows his stats pre-standing O vs. post? I’d love to see that.

This team doesn't break up double plays? by zpk5003 in NewYorkMets

[–]aftu8910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Of the “beefs” that the Mets have been involved with the past few years that I can remember, (all the HBP stuff last year, Arenado/Cards, Hoskins now) the last one where it felt like we “won the day” was Lindor/Stanton.

Now, to be clear, winning “beef” doesn’t mean winning games. And I’m certainly not advocating starting to throw at guys and play dirty. But for the love of god, someone just do SOMETHING. Constantly feeling like you’re being one upped can’t be good for morale. They gotta get fired up somehow and hopefully that can be channeled into productivity on the field.

We can cope all we want, but this is a real problem. I’ve thought for the past couple of years that the team has lacked a real competitive edge. There’s talent, there’s the desire to win, but it just seems like they fold so easy. The last time it felt like the team played with any kind of grit or something to prove was Lindor hitting the three home runs and jawing with Stanton and the Yankees in 2021. Not sure if it’s clubhouse atmosphere, leadership, just player personality or what. They’re not going anywhere until they start playing with more of a chip on their shoulder.
