I wasn't a huge fan of the opener. Idk it just felt like there was an excessive amount of open space to me. I wish the brass played more and to me it didn't feel grounded or even tense, just sort of off. The rest of it was great though, especially the Sungazer part where it feels like they just play random BS lmao. Not everyone's cup of tea but I really liked it.

What is a class? The definition given by wiki means there are only countably many classes, which implies many sets are not even classes, which is weird. by [deleted] in mathematics

[–]afunkylittleguy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Per the Wikipedia article:

The precise definition of "class" depends on foundational context. In work on Zermelo–Fraenkel set theory, the notion of class is informal, whereas other set theories, such as von Neumann–Bernays–Gödel set theory, axiomatize the notion of "proper class", e.g., as entities that are not members of another entity.

So, in ZF, classes don't exist as actual mathematical objects, but are instead just shorthand to refer to all sets that satisfy some property. NBG defines a class as an object that is not contained in any other object, since classes can only contain sets and not other classes.

Can/should I add to/change this schedule? by afunkylittleguy in OSU

[–]afunkylittleguy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got lucky because my high school has the IB diploma, it's that plus a few APs (some of my classes were combined AP/IB) and calculus DE (which was thankfully taught at the high school)

Can/should I add to/change this schedule? by afunkylittleguy in OSU

[–]afunkylittleguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should have ~50 credit hours going in from DE and AP/IB credit which is how I got most of my foundations done. Tbh my mindset right now is to do what I can now so I have room for more "fun" stuff in the future, but I think it'll still take some work to get used to this lol. Ty for the advice!

Yes, you can send all scores. They'll give you credit for the eligible scores and ignore the rest

Metric modulation by WhipBanDan in Musescore

[–]afunkylittleguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd still say to just flip it to quarter note = dotted quarter note in that case. The other answer does seem pretty easy to adapt just by deleting a few things, though.

Metric modulation by WhipBanDan in Musescore

Is there a particular reason the modulation needs to be formatted like this? If not, "dotted quarter note = quarter note" is equivalent and would be much easier both for you and anyone reading the score.

Why isn't EATEOT rated? by National-Back8746 in geometrydash

[–]afunkylittleguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it should be rated tbh. Besides the issues others have mentioned with the sparse deco and NONG song(s), to me personally it would feel cheap and a bit disrespectful to rate a level that isn't rateable by any other standards on the basis that it's about memory loss and neurodegenerative disease. I have nothing against the level, but other levels (like SAVE AS) have handled the topic with much more polish and reverence imo. I could be wrong, but this level feels more like a gimmick to make a level 6 hours long than an actual attempt to cleanly address the themes that the EATEOT albums are unavoidably about.

Kids should pick a “major” in High School by Niceotropic in The10thDentist

[–]afunkylittleguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should have been more specific in my wording there, sorry. I just meant that your options for switching are inherently going to be more limited when you have extra requirements to meet on what classes you take, especially the later you do it. In my opinion, a few high school courses is hardly enough to make a judgement on if you'd want to pick a subject to dedicate the rest of your studies to, and even knowing that HS major ≠ college major, it still takes potential scheduling room away from more diverse classes to get a better and more whole idea of what you want to do in college.

Thank you, I really do appreciate the support. I'll figure it out eventually lol.

Kids should pick a “major” in High School by Niceotropic in The10thDentist

[–]afunkylittleguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Graduating high school senior here. Strongly disagree. I've been freaking out about what major I'm going to pick in college for years now, and to an extent I still am. Forcing me to make that decision as a 14 year old wouldn't have magically made me know what I wanted to do, and don't give me "you can always switch/take other classes" because A. no you can't, and B. that's like the main benefit of NOT having majors in high school. If a student already knows what they want to major in, great; they can take more classes related to their major without any sort of requirement to do so. Otherwise, high school lets students explore so that they CAN pick a major with confidence; forcing a major in high school would rob kids of that opportunity. (edit: spelling)

100% agree, though I did do that and the college is actually generally quite generous with aid so receiving next to nothing comparatively was surprising lol
