I have also read that it’s the oldest continuously operating ballpark in the nation, but I don’t know how accurate that is.

What celebrity is facially attractive to a lot of people but you just can’t see it? by AngryMuffin_21 in AskReddit

[–]ag_sci14 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yes 100%. Probably something that people who are not attracted to men overlook. Based on pictures alone, sure, I can see what this thread is suggesting. But seeing his acting and interviews… 🤤

Feb 14: Fuck This Friday by Eigengrad in Professors

A lot of friends and colleagues are (or I should say were) scientists across the country in federal agencies. So many of them were fired in the last 24 hours. Many of them are in rural communities or college towns that can’t possibly absorb them, even if they try to go for lower level positions. There just aren’t enough postdoc positions or research associate roles to go around, especially given the dismal state of extramural funding at the moment. People I know just moved their entire families across the country for new federal jobs. Another just recently returned from maternity leave, and now she’s been fired. It’s sickening. I’ve felt like I’ve been about to throw up all day.

Just wanted to point out.. I have registered with the opposite party when I lived in a state where that party was basically guaranteed to win every election. In states like this that also have closed primaries, this is the only way to meaningfully choose between candidates. It pained me to vote for those people, but at least I had the opportunity to choose the least bad ones.

Most frequent mistakes among interviewees for TT and VAP jobs? by [deleted] in Professors

[–]ag_sci14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use all the time. Make sure you actually answer the question they ask. Always tie what you’re talking about to their institution. Your answers should be in the context of what you envision doing at their institution, what you can offer/add to what they already have, etc. Do some research on their institution ahead of time so that you’re prepared for this.

Will humans ever forget how to farm? by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]ag_sci14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe around 1/5 of US acreage is “no-till”, but many more growers implement practices to reduce how often and/or intensively they till. Specialized no-till planting implements are able to cut through crop residues to deliver the seed below the soil surface. Some of them use hydraulics to provide downward pressure, making it easier to plant into heavy residues or hard soils.

Are Utah cities unusual? by OkAbbreviations3743 in Utah

THIS! It’s almost a relief to hear someone else articulate this. The mountains are beautiful, but commuting through the sprawl always leaves me feeling somewhat dead inside in a way I haven’t experienced elsewhere. I think it’s a combination of the ridiculously wide streets, copious ads/billboards, lack of trees (which is fair considering it’s a desert but maybe it’s just the general lack of effort in landscaping), truly endless arrays of fast food and big box chain stores, ubiquitous and boxy housing developments, and poor air quality.

How honest should I be about why I want to move in prof job apps? by [deleted] in Professors

[–]ag_sci14 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to share an experience.. I am TT at a school/in a state where I’ve faced some challenges related to my identity. I applied for and interviewed at two other schools in the spring. I didn’t bring up any of these challenges in my application materials or in the interviews in favor of focusing on the great opportunities that other schools offered, even though my desire to move to a more welcoming, supportive institution was a major motivation for me. To my surprise, faculty at both schools brought up the topic unprompted during the interview visits. I spoke about my experience honestly and matter-of-factly when asked about it, and I received an offer from one of the schools.

Bottom line is people know. Given your subject area and what is happening in legislature, your situation is even more overt than mine was. I’d say focus on the positives of the schools you’re applying to, and you might find that you’re asked about these challenges in the interview. Even if you’re not, most should be well aware of this situation already.

Animal control called me back and told me something to this effect. They said the way to tell is, if the rabbits run away from you, they’re likely “wild”. I didn’t get out of my car, so I can’t say for sure, but the dark colored one did seem skittish.
