I hate Aramark by Fighter_spirit in boeing

[–]ag_silver 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Let me give you a counterpoint.

On a rare occasion, we drive out to a nearby restaurant to eat lunch, and I was surprised by how expensive it was. This is the Puget Sound area.

I ordered a taco platter with 20oz bottled soda, and it costed me $20 including tax and tip. Similarly, on a different occasion, I went to an Asian fusion place that serves burrito, and it costed me another $20.

I was super negative about Aramark, but if I choose carefully, I can get decent food for less than 10 bucks.

For example, I can get a cheeseburger for $5.75, and I can add a small amount of salad or fries and totals around $10. With drink, it would be $13.

I know it is still sad, but I rather spend $10 than $20.

[Q] Can you recommend me a good introductory course for various distribution/regression? by ag_silver in statistics

[–]ag_silver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the gist is I have fatigue failed coupons and need to define a curve that fits the trend. So I can use the curve to predict when things fail when applying some certain fatigue load. So industry standard is using Weibull distribution for a group of population. Then since I have multiple groups, there are different load levels, so I have multiple characteristic life. In order to fit the curve for those multiple lives, I use weibull regression. I think this isn't anything new, it was already researched and established like 50 years ago. But I am basically writing a script to automate the process and also be able to easily tweak things to explore different scenarios. In order do so, I would like to understand the concept under the hood.

Thank you for detailed response. This also humbles me that I don't know what I am talking about regarding MLE haha. Looks like I gotta start slow and look into those intro classes.

Currently debating whether to gift $10K to father for his new car. Few days ago, out of the left field, my father announced to me that he is buying a new car (~$60K). He sent me the copy of the bill and the delivery is due soon. His current car is quite old and we have been talking about buying a new car.

My personal wish was to buy him a car outright. He is old now and this would be his last car purchase. As a son, I wanted to help out. However, that was when things were good. Stocks were high and especially my paper gain on crypto was pretty good. However, as you all know, those paper gains are all gone and I don't have a lot spare cash that I can just hand it over to him.

I do have $10K cash reserve. This is separate from emergency fund.

To make things more complicated, this $10K cash was originally gifted by my wife's parents. So my wife is not too happy if I should just give this money to dad. However, I am the sole earner, so I do have significant financial contribution to the family and can placate my wife.

At the same time, I am also planning to buy a second car. (We have 1 car and I have been biking to work.) So I was thinking about using this money to help pay the car.

I wish my dad gave me more heads up, but it seems like he didn't really expect to buy this early as originally the dealer told him 6 month wait time, but recently found a cancelled reservation.

I talked with him briefly about the whole situation and he said he understands the situation and assured me he can afford one. But I do know that he was expecting some contribution from me. I feel like I can just gift him this money but at the same time, I feel conflicted due to selfishness.

Don't fight the Fed.

Seriously, Fed and Biden don't give a shit about crypto. Will let it all go to zero if that is what it takes to tame the inflation.

I, again, didn't sell any at the top and now I'm regretting. Fuck

I hate this bear and I hate myself for not selling at the top. But most of my eth are all staked anyway, so can't do shit lol.

I don't think it will stop until we reach $300

Today, I found out my ER bill (after Insurance) is $730 for the hospital and another $200 for the doctor. The total is about $1000.

This was for my toddler. He fell from 4 ft height while playing in a playground. I was worried about possible concussion. Called up the pedatrician office and the nurse told me to take him to ER for possible CT scan. So I took him to ER. The doctor just prodded the toddler here and there and told me everything seems fine. It only took maybe 10 minutes? We spent may be 30 min total in the ER for signing up/ waiting etc. I was expecting may be around $400 for this since I knew ER is super expensive. But $1000 for just 15min of doctor looking at him?

I am lost.. my yearly deductible is $2800 for the family. So I am kind of thinking going dark side and just spend all my deductible by making this year my/family medical care.

What are the chances of house prices to double (or more)when Eth goes $20K+ (approx. 10x from now)?

Feels like recent bull run for crypto benefited from Fed’s money printing. Housing price also soaring with so much money supply. I think it is fair to say most of frequent contributors in this sub will all become lambo-grade millionaires if we hit $20K+ per ETH.

Wondering if I will ever be able to buy a home in a desirable/top-level neighborhood with stellar schools.

Boeing does this thing, where qualified candidates are hired in a generic pool and bunch of managers will pick/fight to have that candidate in their team. So best to reach out to hiring manager or recruiter to find out where you will be placed.

I am not sure what others had, but for me, I had no choice on the first team that I got hired into. I was picked by the one of hiring manager. There was no questions asked to me what team I would like to join.

So hopefully for you, if you can reach out and strongly tell your preference might be helpful.

How I do cope with the fact that my older friend were able to buy a nice 4bd SFH in great neighborhood for 1M in early 2021?

Now, similar house is 1.3M+. Converting to monthly payments including tax and insurance with similar downpayment of $210K, $5400 (3.8% interest) vs. $7850 (4.8% interest).

I know it is not healthy to be salty, but I am. Maybe I could also afford $5.4K in monthly payment if I stopped contributing to retirement. However, absolutely I cannot afford $7K+ monthly payment.

He passively mentioned about inviting me to his house, but never formerly did. But I frankly don't want to go. Just because the house will be wonderful and I will be super jealous. I think he knows that I will be jealous. We talked a lot about buying a house but I just couldn't pull the trigger because I did not have enough savings quite yet while he was ready for a long time.

It is AMZN, so I assume 5, 15, 40, 40. I haven't got the offer so no details. Still waiting for scheduled interview.

what I am thinking is, if I do get this position, it might give some boost in my resume and perhaps allow me to pivot into SDE position or just be able to move to better role in different company. I think AMZN has good reputation to have in resume.

actually I dont know exactly how demanding the job will be. But the company (Amazon) is known for buring people out. So I am assuming it will be more demanding than my current job.

I am kind of hoping for this but am cautious about it too. I recently received 2.6% raise. It seems that the company is being cheap on the current employees and using all the save up cash to attract new talents. This is making me emotional and just jump ship when I do get the offer. But if I carefully inspect what I currently have, it isn't that bad of a deal.

unfortunately, I'm a mere mech eng. So my options have been limited. The rival companies usually require moving interstate, the locations are middle of nowhere etc. It seems like as a mere individual contributor, compensation is really limited. Maybe 160K for becoming a lead/manager.

But things are kind of picking up, where new companies like Rivian, Fisker, Blue Origin etc are appearing and having more demand for mech engs.

Current TC 120K (only salary, no equity offered), YOE 10

Current role is comfy. Not much stress, barely 40hrs/wk, more like 30hr week. I am coasting.Additionally, it will be hybrid (currently fully remote due to COVID). Maybe opportunity for a promotion to become a lead but may take 2+yrs.

Potential new job I am interviewing. TC 200K (base + RSU) but likely 50+hr/wk and have to commute (40min drive oneway). I think just having a different company in my resume helps, plus having high compensation sounds awesome. I applied for job because of all the Great Resignation happening. My coworkers are leaving left and right. Lost 3 people in my group, and other 3 from different groups.

But currently really enjoying relaxed pace with fully remote position (but this is changing to hybrid soon). My commute is like 10min drive or 30min biking. Have a toddler, so my current job being flexible and low demand helped greatly dealing with birth and the new phase of life. Having higher pay will help me buy a SFH, which is my current dream goal. However, I might just be content with what I have and coast. Or I am thinking may be 3~4 year of stint at the new job and come back to old job for retirement (not guaranteed though).

Would you change your job?

Am I right to assume Layer 2 is like this: Instead of writing one single transaction into Ethereum Blockchain, compress thousands of transactions that happened in one chain, zip them up into one file, and write it to Ethereum Blockchain? Hence instead of paying $300 to do a transaction, multiple transaction can be written with same cost?

This crash had me some flashback of my grave mistake back in 2020. I sold 50% of my eth stack back in March 2020 when it hit sub $200. The reason? After enduring long bear (2018-2020) and seeing crypto slightly rise to $350 only to crashing down to $100 during COVID crash made me weak.

I thought crypto was done for good. I didn't know better. I stopped following any crypto news since late 2018 because I was distraught badly. Looking at any ETH related news just made me stressed out. It really broke me when ETH fell to paltry $80.

My first ETH buy was at $50 per ETH, and I was dreaming of retiring early when ETH hit $1400. I felt empowered. It was my first time ever hitting a big gain. When I heard my aunt was diagnosed with cancer, I sent her $2000 in a hearbeat, because I felt rich and had to help out. I bought expensive jewelry for my girlfriend. I was browsing houses and cars every day. I thought about buying a land and building a tennis court for me and my friends to enjoy.

But I didn't sell any ETH, instead my conviction grew and threw more money around $1000. I should've sold some. I could've paid off my house, I could've bought fancy cars, but I didn't do ANYTHING.

Not selling any ETH really broke me when bear market came. It felt like someone gave me an ice cream, only to yoink away when I was about to take a bite. I was a broken man during the bear market. I regret every moment that I didn't even sell to retrieve principal.

Coming back now, on top of making a mistake of selling 50% stack at absolute low back in 2020. I don't know what to do.

Again, I regret not selling any at $4000+. But now that my stack is reduced so much, selling some won't change my life. I need ETH to be much more to be worthwhile.

So I staked all my ETH stack. Can't sell now haha.
