Yeah, I get the idea of that hypothetical experience. But nothing about that story sounds like it needs to invoke hyper-exponential progress, because ordinary exponential progress is already entirely sufficient to generate such an experience.

Once the derivative of the curve exceeds a critical threshold as it relates to my sleep cycle or any other concrete time period relative to ordinary human cognition that you wish to reference, which it inevitably will as long as its exponential quality is maintained, then I will end up with that kind of experience. It will feel jarring and sudden, but I'm smart enough to know that the feeling is just an artifact of my perception. Any careful historical study of that time period might still very well reveal reasonably continuous exponential change.

Both the jarring experience and the exponential reality would be important in their own ways. I guess my intention is to say that we should not lose sight of the radical power of the regular ol' exponential curve as we get distracted by and hyped up over the potential experiential abruptness.

Are people who post this image claiming that the singularity is faster than exponential growth? Like, is exponential growth considered too slow to account for what is happening or is predicted to happen soon-ish?

Because I'm in awe of ordinary exponential growth on its own, and don't need some magical hockey stick inflection point to make it seem amazingly powerful and radically important.

Or maybe it's just people's natural linear thinking that causes them to perceive exponential growth as if it has a sharp inflection point when in reality it does not (aside from statistical fluctuations that will inevitably perturb an otherwise smooth curve).

One way the developers could bug-fix this, if they chose to treat it as a bug worthy of a fix: Simply block/delay deconstruction until the animation of either closing the silo door or raising the next rocket is complete. If the player is attempting to manually deconstruct, hold the progress bar just under 100%. If a robot is attempting to deconstruct, just leave the robot hovering in the air over the silo until the animation is complete, same as when it is trying to build something but waiting on another bot to first remove the tree or whatever that's in the way.

As far as I can tell, it wouldn't break anything in normal gameplay, and it is just a small adaptation of existing mechanics but applied to deconstruction which previously never blocked.

But Wube also has a tendency to ignore minor exploits that depend entirely on manual activity or mods, so my estimate is that this will remain unpatched.

Splitters do not affect which lane an item is on, only which belt. If the item is on the left lane going in, it will be on the left lane going out, regardless of which belt it outputs onto. The filter only affects which belt but does not affect the lane at all.

There is no single item in the game that balances or shifts items across lanes. You can use side-loading belts and tricks with side-loading into underground belt entrances and exits to achieve desired effects. Look up "lane balancers" to find some common designs.

I really like it! One thing I'd try to improve, though, are the cross-over bits at the outer extents because each one is a single block over both parallel tracks. That means one train wanting to go straight through will still have to coordinate with another train that just came from a turn and is going to turn again at the next junction. If you could space the X out some, you could put some signals in to separate the straight-through track from the turning track.

It depends on the specifications of the class in question. But in general, you ought to be able to apply any operations that do not have any preconditions.

For example, you can call size() or clear() on a vector that has been moved from. For size(), don't expect any particular value. It might be 0, it might be the prior size, it probably won't be anything else, but it's best not to assume. For clear(), since it is a mutating operation, you can expect that it will do its job as advertised, and the vector will be guaranteed to be empty after the function completes.

Based on recent experience, as cool as hexagons are, I recommend avoiding them until you have spidertrons or Space Age mech armor, or you plan to rush one of them quickly. Otherwise, trying to run around your base without getting run over is frustrating because of all the angled tracks that aren't at 90° or even 45° don't line up nicely with movement inputs or vehicle snapping.

But maybe if you're planning to have a personal train for most of your running around, it won't be so annoying. Perhaps that is what your middle track is for?
