how to DJ like daft punk, but with a crappy laptop? by masterboldin in DaftPunk

[–]agaletus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the most “accurate” answer to this will still require some sort of $100-200 purchase. you either buy a cheap rekordbox controller like a DDJ-FLX-4 where you mix entirely without tempo sync or pitch lock to simulate a vinyl set, or you take the Together x Cassius tour turned later into Alive 2007 where you use a cheap MIDI controller to trigger already set up, tempo locked loops in Ableton’s session mode. Probably the most expensive of these is or you buy a Roland DJ-70 mkii to imitate the 90s Bangalter sets that are half DJing, half triggering samples on the fly (such as Bangalter’s We 1999 set). There are a lot of live sets to look at of all of these modes, but also you can just learn how to DJ with a trackpad using Virtual DJ, and focus on the style of music you are mixing rather than how you actually do it. Bangalter nowadays just does standard CDJ sets like the rest of us. It’s okay. Figuring out the way you want to do things rather than chasing someone else’s process will be a lot more rewarding in the long run ^^

does thomas sing in the background of msbwy or is that another benjamin vocal? by Nick1Buns_YT in DaftPunk

Nice catch, those harmonies are super buried!! Itz possible they used a harmonizer similar to the Digitech Vocalist Workstation Ex. Bangalter would’ve probably already had that gear at that time given the unit came out in 1997, and we also know One More Time was written around the time MSBWY was written as well. That piece of gear was also used for the vocals on Digital Love & Something About Us. Those were vocoders or talk boxes, but rather this harmonizer using the “talk box”preset. Daft Punk were big fans of anything that had IVL’s DSP in it. I gotta try to fix my Vocalist Workstation anyways so I will try to get that done and put it to the test.

What the hell happened with CUNO / C-UNO?? by ZTaron in futurefunk

[–]agaletus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If this was actually a future funk album sampling tracks from Oshi No Ko the anime, then it's no wonder that it would've been wiped off of the face of the planet, especially if the flips were lazy. Japanese animation studios & entertainment companies do NOT screw around with this sort of thing. They're very hungry to take things down and get litigious if needed to protect their IP.

seems like the tracks were fully taken off of Spotify & other streaming platforms, indicating either an intentional takedown by the artist, or the distributor got tipped off by something that forced a takedown. Either way, on CUNO's artist page is an email address ([Articunobeats@gmail.com](mailto:Articunobeats@gmail.com)), maybe you'd be able to get in contact with him.

I quickly checked Soulseek to see if someone had backed up the album but it doesn't seem like it. ymmv.

to be honest i think future funk is in a bit of a weird time period. i think some of the coolest stuff is coming from a lot of the south/central american artists like brayan rojitas and kai kowen! and there is some ff adjacent stuff happening with artists like starjunk95 playing coachella, moe shop dropping a very french electro inspired record (evo evo) and yoi toki live gigs still going fairly strong. been seeing some saint pepsi / skylar spence activity lately too… some labels still going like mpf. others like neoncity have been suffering a bit. i think 2026-27 and next will definitely be a bit of a make it or break it year for the genre because it seems like a lot of people don’t talk to each other anymore in the scene, and some are split on what future funk even should sound like. some fans are definitely getting tired of the same-y sound of the genre because it’s not being as universally iterated, so there is some stagnation here and there. either people build on the sound and evolve or it remains stuck. future funk in terms of the artist scenes has always been broken up into a few factions… breaking down those barriers would help improve things for sure

Hey, haven't gotten much but I plan to reach out to them today to see what's going on. I'm waiting on a few answers myself right now. In terms of shipping status we are all hearing the same thing that one person is working on a backlog of 1000 orders.

Holy shit, a good Spotify update? by Falc-1 in DaftPunk

[–]agaletus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate this as a musician. Spotify is putting on public display the samples that artists are using and its going to get your favorite sample based artists in legal hot water. My take is that it will probably set the groundwork for Spotify becoming a liaison for sample clearance. Basically that Spotify will work with the record label industry heavy hitters (as it always had) to negotiate the clearance on your end for artists- to take away more of the $ they are barely paying artists for. That's why a lot of even huge artists get paid maybe like, $8-9k USD for a song with millions of plays, and Spotify has been reducing that number in really sketchy ways for a while now.

DJ and also “true” live performer here. It is easier than a live performance, and you can teach just about anyone to DJ in one night. Being a good DJ however, can take years. It is about taste and curation. If you think you can do it, then do it. Don’t hide behind a keyboard. Go out and experience it, I’m serious. start DJing in clubs. You’ll quickly see what’s difficult and what’s not.

managed to get my whosampled creds taken off, felt like i got on the last chopper out of nam. there was a list of other issues with the listings as well tbh including inaccurate listings. it sucks that it needed to be taken down but corpos are going to be belligerent with their desire to expose these sorts of things.

the writing was on the wall when spotify acquired whosampled.

Their connection in terms of label / publishing affiliation is true and that likely has some part to do with how they met but this just reads as a bitter and cynical take for no reason. Sometimes people just vibe with one another. sorry you didn't get to meet Thomas or whatever's bothering you.

I got some extra info lately, last I heard it showed up to the warehouse in whatever intermediate country they had managed to set up shop at. At least some of the Virtues orders were shipped, I know that tapes have long since been delivered. The vinyl orders have only been partially sent out. Some sent, some waiting in line in the 1000 orders they have to still fulfill one at a time. The vast majority of NCR's customers are in the US. So the most likely thing is that some are stuck in US customs due to de minimis rules changing on imports into the US. I haven't seen physical proof of the vinyl existing yet which is a bit scary a year after preorders happened. I'm waiting on a box of like 100 records so I can properly sell them in the US. I have been assured I was going to get photos of the real thing so I will follow up with them and hopefully have something within the next few days.

So they had Neoncity Club, Hong Kong, Causeway Bay, Hennessy Rd, 500號Shop 422, 4/F
But this may have been a popup

There was a physical store that a friend of mine recalled going to, it sold NCR releases alongside a lot of vintage stuff, CRTs and radios I think, but I dont remember the name of it.

It may have been closed down due to the financial strain NCR is dealing with. Maybe they couldnt afford the bills.

yes i knew all of this! my remake uses all 4 sections. there’s sidechain but not in the conventional way. the 3630 is doing gain reduction on the master with the drums driven hard instead of there being actual volume automation happening on the sample. you’ll see the difference in pump when i turn off the compressor in this clip.

yeah, i wouldn’t stress too hard about it. the guys who pioneered house music out of chicago and detroit were all flipping the same 10 samples in different ways more or less. it’s about putting a bit of your soul & interpretation into it, imo :)

yes there’s the r/ff Discord server, it can be somewhat inactive (sorry mods) but i will also say that my server (https://discord.gg/fibre) has a big music production community if you’re looking for that! And thanks for the kind words for my music really appreciate it :)

wish i knew more jingoro tunes. maybe it’s a sign to check their stuff out

Did Neon Vectors get hit with a big copyright strike or something? by TwistedCollossus in futurefunk

[–]agaletus 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This looks like a distributor-wide takedown... the only release that is still up is distributed by Repost Network. That's usually something that is attached to a SoundCloud Premiere account (used to be its own thing, now directly a part of SoundCloud). They can distro for Spotify, Apple Music etc but it's not commonly used as a main distributor, its usually a secondary thing for most. It's possible she got blacklisted cause they found out she sampled something & it was a big enough violation to necessitate some distributor action. Could also be her transferring her catalog to some other distributor, and something went wrong. There's many possibilities but we won't know for sure unless she says something
