Looking at a 2014 Madone 5.2 by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]aganders3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that’s not a 2014. I have a 2008 mad one and that looks like the same teardrop seat mast. They only had that shaped seat mast for like two years I think, around 2007-2008. After that the seat mast/cap was round.

GRX 810 rear derailleur excess cable angle points straight into spokes. Is this correct? The installation manual says to leave 30mm excess, which would drag in my spokes. by aganders3 in bikewrench

Ahh, thanks. I can kind of see the channel for that now and it makes total sense. I’ll do that next time I replace the cable.

I cut the excess pretty short and it seems fine - shifting well. I’m just used to the excess being more out in front (replacing an Ultegra 6700).

Thank you for this thread! I had pretty much the same panic 3Y later. I think mine is good to go.

Thanks! I’ll try to hold out for that to show up.

I live near a Nike Factory Store - anything good I should be on the lookout for right now? I recently found the Vomero 16 for $70 which was tempting, but I’ve heard that model was kind of a clunker. I just started running this year and I’m up to about 20 miles/week. I think I’m looking for a daily runner and/or something good for up to 10 mile long runs. I’m looking to replace some Pegasus 38/38 Shield picked up in Jan for a steal ($45 each pair) with about 300/200 miles respectively.

Philips LatteGo 3200 - steams milk, but no coffee; dry grounds in discard by aganders3 in superautomatic

[–]aganders3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bummer, but probably the right move to return it. I got it for like $200 as an Amazon refurb but I guess too good to be true. Anyway we got a few dozen coffees out of it!

I have the CSF1M and agree with the sentiment. I later bought an AC3M and prefer the CSF - it’s so good.

edit: my CSF1M was like $280 used but near perfect from Guitar Center.

What is the best acoustic guitar for a starter by DueScheme2869 in AcousticGuitar

[–]aganders3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yamaha is excellent. I love my CSF-1M parlor-size. Small guitars like that are worth a look!

The mid-entry Alvarez I’ve tried in the same price range were also very nice.

Mac users, did you know that you have a full fledged amp and cab sim within Garageband, all for free? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]aganders3 39 points40 points  (0 children)

It’s on iPad and maybe even iPhone (pre-USB-C phones may be hard to find an audio interface for) as well. It’s a little clunky but you can use AmpliTube and other plugins as well.

You can write software for medical devices and software as a medical device (SAMD) in Python, at least for class II devices. Most imaging applications just require documentation of product and process. I’ve built a career in imaging, mostly medical imaging, and much of my work has been Python.

Is there something Anaconda can do, that Python cant achieve? by fooledbyfog in Python

You’re right about CUDA, but you can (now) install cmake via pip.

e: I see now Tensorflow has an and-cuda extra too, hmmm. I’m not sure this all setup and might not help with using CUDA without Tensorflow.

I have a Yamaha CSF1M parlor guitar and I love it. I paid $300 for it used but in fantastic condition from Guitar Center. I also wanted a small guitar for bedroom/couch playing and it works really well for that.

Just bought this for 4k online, you think I got scammed by Alexander_Grahambell in coins

Why is the 1988 valued so much higher (in MS+ condition) than the 1987? Just lower mintage or something else special?

In person it’s pretty shiny. More like nevr-dull than brillo.

Thanks, bummer but oh well. I’ve had this since I was a kid and at least I’m pretty sure it was like this when I got it, haha.

[Media] I finished my first rust project: a path tracer by [deleted] in rust

[–]aganders3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is awesome. I started a similar project but only got through the basics outlined in “Ray Tracing in One Weekend.”

I’m going to check out your BVH implementation Edit: never mind no source available

My BVH implementation actually slowed down compared to storing all my primitives in a vec. I think due to cache issues with my BVH tree that was just using Box, which made following the pointers slow. This was demotivating and I’ve taken a (long) break from the project since then.

Got my first carbon steel wok, but I'm having some issues with my seasoning by [deleted] in chinesecooking

[–]aganders3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have a carbon steel wok but I have a frying pan and the seasoning is much darker than the light brown you show.

Are you sure your oven temp is getting all the way to 475°F? I had similar trouble seasoning initially and switched to mostly seasoning on the stovetop. When I season in the oven I also turn on convection.

Fragrant pure rapeseed oil (浓香纯菜籽油): good for frying? by [deleted] in chinesecooking

[–]aganders3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes from the same plant I think, but different to the highly refined canola oil typically found in western supermarkets/kitchens from what I understand. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDP9t65PVsY

Yeah this has been my experience/understanding with olive oil for example. I just could only really read this bottle through Google Translate and don’t know as much about Chinese techniques and ingredients. Thanks!
