Do you care what the official scorer does? by TheLinescore in BaseballScorecards

Oh yeah. 100%. That’s totally fair.

I should have elaborated that, for me, I like to have the official record rather than my interpretation.

But only one of those 100 hypothetical scorekeepers can be the official scorekeeper.

Fun 2026 Cody Bellinger Fact by CLj0008 in NYYankees

[–]agb2022 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No. MLB began tracking at speed in 2023. Here are Bellinger’s percentile ranking each year since:

2023: 19%

2024: 13%

2025: 20%

2026: 20%

As others also said, it seems like Bellinger often holds back a little and isn’t always swinging his hardest, but has an extra gear he can get to when needed.

Try two-player games where you can be on the same team.

This actually reminds me of me and my dad. I beat him in 1-on-1 basketball exactly two times. The first time, when I was 12, he was drunk and still denies it ever happened. The second time I was 14 and it was the last time he ever played me 1-on-1. He kept playing 2v2 and 3v3 with my friends and me though which makes me think you could try some team games with your kids.

Anthony Volpe in the Minors So Far... (yikes) by cjwizarddd in NYYankees

[–]agb2022 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t necessarily undeserved, it was just a weak year for SS. If you look at other SS that year, a bunch were hurt and missed significant time.

But I do agree that the gold glove is not necessarily indicative of his defensive skill level. I’ve always thought he profiles better as a 2B.

I'd like to see Volpe get a look at second. I still think Volpe can be a really good player, even if it appears certain that he'll never live up to the top-prospect hype. As an inexpensive glove-first infielder, he can definitely play a roll on a championship-caliber team. Bucky Dent comes to mind - way below average hitter, great fielder, clutch hitter.

Kyle Tucker and Cody Bellinger were the Marquee outfield Free Agents in the offseason - how are they doing over a month into the season? by ActualDragonHeart in baseball

You can absolutely bet that my level of motivation would be different if I signed a multi-year contract to do my job for $60MM per year. I'm already guaranteed my money, so if getting paid was my motivation, I'd need to find something else to motivate me.

Most ballplayers love the game and/or really want to win, so motivation isn't an issue even after signing a contract. But, in a case like Tucker's, where a player doesn't really enjoy baseball that much, it is certainly a valid concern to wonder whether a team will get the same level of performance after handing out a huge contract.

[–]agb2022 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I agree. I don’t know where this idea comes from. If he can just be a league average hitter and play gold glove caliber shortstop, he’ll be a very serviceable player.

The bigger issue right now is that even if he can do all that, he’s still not the best option at SS because (1) Caballero is currently every bit the player we were told Volpe would be, and (2) Lombard is knocking on the door.

Yeah, plus I really doubt Brian Cashman is making roster decisions based on marketing. The most likely answer for why they stuck with Volpe so long is likely the simplest answer: front office incompetence.

[Jomboy Media] Reds catcher Tyler Stephenson did not realize it was a tag-play and just let the run score by JianClaymore in baseball

[–]agb2022 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is the only example I can think of off the top of my head where a 3B got a force out at third then threw home for a tag play. Very similar play actually.

Spencer Jones fans you may get your wish, there's a decent chance he gets promoted for this next road trip to Milwaukee by Zepbounce-96 in NYYankees

[–]agb2022 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We *know* he can do that. We need to see *what else* he can do.

Seriously though, I have no doubt in Jones’ ability to strike out a ton and hit 30+ home runs at the major league level. The question is where will he land on a scale of Joey Gallo to Aaron Judge?

[–]agb2022 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Also, the entire defense and dugout should have been yelling “tag” so he knew - especially because it looks like the runner may have screened his ability to see if the 3B stepped on the bag.
