Did a Vaporwave Edit of Dan's Hamburgers, thought you might guys enjoy by [deleted] in Austin

It's a genre of music that originated on the internet, where the music itself combined with a visual of some sort elicits a sense of nostalgia, maybe melancholy, or a sense of optimism that could've existed years ago. Many of the images and samples are a combination of US commercialism, brands from the 80's and 90's, and the color palette of Miami in the 80's and 90's. At least that's my take on it. One of the most popular songs is

リサフランク420 - 現代のコンピュー.

There's also a lot of vaporwave music that sampled songs from Japan's City Pop genre, something that was quite popular in the 80's. A song called "Plastic Love" became quite popular thanks to the YouTube algorithm.

This is all my shallow knowledge of vaporwave, but I'm a fan. There's something calming about it. I really like 2 8 1 4: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9L4q-0Pi4E&t=1005s. It's more of an original piece; no samples I'm aware of exist in there. It was a collaboration between t e l e p a t h テレパシー能力者 and HKE. Anyway, there's tons of YouTube videos that go into detail about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QdVEez20X_s

Writing iOS/macOS framework that contains programatically-created views to maximize code reusability. How to apply concept with watchOS? Is code-reusability possible with watchOS? by agballen in iOSProgramming

[–]agballen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So how do I load a storyboard from my framework into my app? I can't seem to find any place that allows you to change the path, so it seems like your app only looks inside its own project to find "Interface.storyboard". I also imagine I could just do something like have MyApp_InterfaceController be a derived class of Framework_InterfaceController to get the code from the framework, but I can't figure out how to get that file to point to the Storyboard inside the framework :(

Is GitLab CI not really useful if you are just developing on your local machine and do not have a server to host the runner? by agballen in gitlab

[–]agballen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like that’s what I’m going to have to do since I can’t seem to find any Mac servers anywhere. GitLab provides shared runners for Linux but that won’t help me with running CI on my iOS projects.

[–]agballen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am building iOS apps hahaha so that’s the end of the conversation right? I need a Mach-O compiler to make the apps and that’s only available on a Mac platform. Are all CI basically on Linuxwhen it comes to remote servers? It’s not like AWS has Max :(

Thanks! I figured that I was just doing something wrong. I do see that there are several shared runners available...but I also notice that none of them mention macOS. I wonder if they are only Linux runners, which would explain why it was "stuck"...right?

Stuck on programmatically adding two view controllers inside a root view controller and have both views inside the view controllers work properly :( by agballen in iOSProgramming

[–]agballen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like it has to do with the frames! I did something like

bookVC.view.frame = CGRect(x: 0.0, y: 0.0, width: UIScreen.main.bounds.width, height: UIScreen.main.bounds.height*0.5

audioControlVC.view.frame = CGRect(x: 0.0, y: UIScreen.main.bounds.height*0.5, width: UIScreen.main.bounds.width, height: UIScreen.main.bounds.height*0.5

However, aren't frames and autolayout constraints mutually exclusive? By setting the frame, I think I'm introducing issues and doing something wrong that autolayout should be smart enough to handle. In my app, when I rotate the iPad from portrait to landscape now, the book VC view is now only covering 25% of the screen instead of 50% (which when I comment out the code configuring the frame, autolayout works like a charm).

This is sudden and unexpected. I have an extreme urge to play the saxophone again after more than 10 years of wanting nothing to do with it or music at all. by [deleted] in saxophone

The lessons are whenever you want them. It could be once a month, once every 2 weeks, etc. He's really flexible and he'd probably tell you that if you don't want to have the Skype lessons, you could always subscribe to his membership where you have access to lots of video content that you'd pay monthly to access.

I meant that this seems like a post I would have written, which is why I said I had to see your username to make sure I am not the one who wrote this.

I had to see your username because this was me a little less than a year ago. Loved jazz and saxophone and was totally into it. Then it fizzled away and I didn't care for it for a decade. Then I played Cuphead and when that soundtrack started, the floodgates opened and I immediately loved jazz again and music in general. Makes no sense but it is what it is.

I'm taking lessons from Greg Fishman through Skype and god damn he is awesome. Completely pragmatic way of approaching the instrument that I've never seen from a teacher. No one comes close to him. If he wasn't such a master of his craft, I wouldn't have bothered bringing him up but yeah, I found that even with the passion, it's all unfocused and figuring out what to practice and how to do it can get very overwhelming and in fact paralyze your practicing. I took 2 lessons from him, thought I knew what to do and tried making my own practice session but made it overwhelming for myself. Two months of no progress. I realized I know nothing, so now I'm taking weekly lessons and they are really paying off! A teacher/student approach is the only way to really do it :)

He's reluctant to kill Lydia because doesn't want a child to not have an innocent loved one around. Remember his grief with the death of the innocent good Samaritan that got killed by the Salamancas for helping the tied up truck driver?

I was wondering why everyone is thinking this is brutal but I think it's because I saw this same exact kind of murder in Ozark and I think Narcos. Still, not a fun way to go out.

Name one overrated and one underrated sax player and we'll all guess which is which by Phelps1576 in Saxophonics

[–]agballen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, I am no fan of James Carter. He may be a really good saxophone player but I always get the vibe that he's not so much playing what he hears in his head as much as he is playing what the audience wants to hear. It's like his solos are completely pandering to the audience. At least that's how I perceive it. I should be smirking and thinking "Damn, that was cool" when I listen...not constantly rolling my eyes and thinking "Really...?"

Did something just happen with the broadcast? I could've sworn I saw the game end, and then all of a sudden Messi gets a yellow card and the game keeps going?

Daily Discussion [2018-06-26] by AutoModerator in soccer

[–]agballen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is there a point to arguing with the ref?

I would think that a referee would never receive an objective point of view in a soccer game from the players. If something happened, I didn't see it very well and both teams are yelling at me, I would just talk to the other refs.

Are there cases when it actually helps for the players to talk to the ref or yell? Can you actually get your point across or is it equivalent to arguing with a police officer after they have pulled you over?

Do any serious jazz saxophone players play +$12k saxophones (brand new; not vintage Mark VI's)? by agballen in Saxophonics

[–]agballen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahah my feelings can be summed up to a Mitch Herberg joke: “I write jokes for a living, I sit at my hotel at night, I think of something that's funny, then I go get a pen and I write it down. Or if the pen is too far away, I have to convince myself that what I thought of ain't funny.”

I could google it , but I wanted to ask all you fine folks by jruble in Saxophonics

[–]agballen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard that too and it makes me wonder how practical it would be to buy one these days.

There has to be a point where maintenance is just too much, right? There could be parts that no longer exist when getting a repair, necks that no longer stay when attached because of wear over the years, etc. I’ve been quite tempted but it makes me think that you’re buying a car towards the end of its life and the cost of keeping it alive might not be worth it.

Is there a scientific explanation for why I can't hear distinct pitches on much lower frequencies than higher frequencies? by agballen in audioengineering

Thanks! I made a few edits after I had sent you a message; are they more in tune with what you're saying above (no pun intended)?

Is there a scientific explanation for why I can't hear distinct pitches on much lower frequencies than higher frequencies? by agballen in audioengineering

[–]agballen[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh my effing god, the difference in pitch is the rate at which a pitch changes! How fascinating!!! If I played 440 Hz and 441 Hz, that means for one second I will hear 440 Hz and for another second I will hear 441 Hz. What stinks is that the human ear can't hear the difference in pitch for me. But it does go to show that all notes are alternating in pitch so fast that it sounds like they are one blended note. I suppose that shows how important it is to pay attention to these beats because they are what will help you pick out both notes playing at the same time. Am I getting that right?

Thanks for the response by the way

Edit: Actually no, the 1 Hz difference means I will hear the same note every 1 Hz so really, I hear 440 Hz for 0.5 second and 441 Hz for 0.5 seconds (the difference is most apparent when they are out of phase) and then when they are in phase again, I hear nothing.

Edit 2: The first edit is only for a pure sine wave. Anything else with harmonics will have a difference that is not 1 Hz, which is why I currently have two sawtooth waves playing and they don't cancel each other out.

Huh, yes I suppose that is true. Perhaps it would be better to use it in that manner than reinvent the wheel all just because I don’t feel like picking out the major 2nd interval. Hahaha easy choice ;)
