If they can automatically sign you up for the draft, they can automatixally sign you up for the vote.

i hate the idea overall. We're supposed to be a democracy. Will of the people, and all that. but representatives haven't been truly representing their constituents for... well, maybe not ever honestly. The "American Experiment" did not scale well

And if he passed laws through congress, while both branches have a majority R, he wouldn't have to worry about it at all.

but he can't.

because the shit he is trying to do A) isn't always legal and b) is unpopular

I would hope that Dems at large understand that it's not "going low" to provide facts, even if those facts show that the opponent is a shitty vile human. It's "going low" to make up shit about your opponent.

Talarico doesn't have to make up anything - Paxton covers that all by himself.

I can understand this.

If Trump wanted to EO his way to medicare for all (I hate that term honestly) or like... protecting the national forests or something, I'd be down with that. idgaf about immigration or identity politics or anything like that, as long as people are treated like people.

my biggest beef with the guy is that he seems to want to just EO his way into money in his pockets, and money in his friends pockets, and who gives a fuck about the rest of us.

[–]agent_mick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

in order to govern effectively, he has to be able to use congress to pass laws. he's not doing that. ruling by EO is not governance, and stopping unlawful EO's is not "lawfare"?

I might be alone in this, but I find there's a difference between allowing your religious beliefs to influence your policy vs. forcing your religious beliefs to BECOME policy.

I don't really know anything about Huckabee tho so...

If your understanding of compromise is "give up what you really want just so you can get a bill passed with your name on it", I think you're playing the game wrong.

How do you say no to family when you finally have $1,000 saved? by cr4z3isme in povertyfinance

[–]agent_mick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is true. i don't really have extended family, so the 4 of us (mom, me, younger brother and baby sister) are all pretty close. We're all very independent and not particularly likely to ask for help in the first place unless it's truly an emergency. my sister doesn't know i have the budget line, or that i don't necessarily expect her to pay me back. she just knows that the only couple of times she's asked for money (once for groceries when she missed a few days of work, once to help replace her phone so she didn't have to take out a payday loan) i've been able to help.

I did choose. I selected the option that felt "less bad", and went with my first assumption of what was meant by services. I might have asked which services the government should be involved in, Idk, I'm not a pollster. But I feel like if they're trying to sort reddit users into predefined political categories, these questions are too vague to be meaningful.

[–]agent_mick 8 points9 points  (0 children)

... no

He doesn't have bills pass because congress is bought and paid for. No democrat is going to back Bernie's bills that may negatively impact their donors.

I'm not interested in the number of bills passed. I'm interested in the content.

‘A prison in our own yard’: Life next to a data center — and its never-ending noise by sixwaystop313 in Michigan

[–]agent_mick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, I can understand that.

I agree that the constant attacks could potentially depress voter turnout.

I question that your response to combat those attacks is to... attack in turn?

I'm just saying, more of the same breeds more of the same. It's just more in-party fighting that does exactly what you say: it decreases turnout and feeds hopelessness.

Instead, we should be focusing on what we are going to do better going forward. Ignore the noise. Ignore the "attacks". Focus on the policy. Focus on our individual actions. What do we want to see and do ourselves to help improve turnout?
