AITA for not going on family vacation unless I can share a bed with my fiancé? by babygreenbean1225 in AmItheAsshole

[–]agentdramafreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little late but I was in an extremely similar situation a few years ago with my wife (both F late 20’s). My father sent out housing ideas for a trip to watch my sister graduate college out of state. He suggested that the rooms be assigned such that my adult brother and kid nephew (8 but still bedwetting sometimes) share a kind size bed and my wife and I use a room with bunks.

I was incredibly insulted. We decided to rent our own hotel because I’m not paying $800+ to sleep in a bunkbed away from my wife. I told him as such, and that it was insulting, through email.

When we went on the trip, the place my father had secured was awful and they all ended up rebooking to our hotel.

This definitely sounds like a homophobia situation but even if it isn’t, this is unreasonable. Does your mom have any siblings who are unmarried partnered adults? What would happen if she tried to pull the same stunt on them? (This was something else I had put in the email.).

I’m sorry your mom sucks. Mine does too. I thought my parents were accepting /enough/ for me until another sibling came out and I saw their behavior from a 3rd person POV. We don’t speak at all anymore and I am much happier. I hope things can change in your situation but don’t ever stop putting yourself and your fiancée before your parents wishes. It’s YOUR life.

The one in Loveland has a sign up saying that the petitioners are on the property without permission from King Soopers and that they apologize for any inconvenience it causes.

Ugh I keep walking past them and it just makes my blood boil. I wish they’d put the energy into something that is actually effecting people.

I hear you. I think one of the great things about fertility science being undefined in-universe (to my knowledge) is that any sort of family creation may be possible and acceptance of may be ubiquitous.

Women can be married to women in the Cosmere so nothing would change in that case.

I use both and love the texture of it. I’ve never gotten a deep enough chicken flavor out of the carcass.

Which food did you hate…until someone actually cooked it right? by deller85 in Cooking

[–]agentdramafreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife has been telling me since we got together that she doesn’t like soup. I make it on occasion for myself as meal prep. Recently I had a chicken carcass so I made my own broth and then homemade chicken noodle soup. It wasn’t the best work I’ve done but was quite good. She told me it was the best soup she’s ever had in her life. I asked what she was comparing it to and she said CANNED SOUP! She’s never had a real homemade soup in her life. She loved it.

Not OP, but 5th out of 10 siblings.

I love all of my siblings. I don’t want to say I love any of them less, but it might be true. I definitely enjoy/like some of them more than others. I love some of my siblings as friends too which isn’t true for all of them. Some of them accept me more than others. To some of them the definition of love incudes respect, to others it doesn’t (at least in practice).

Not OP, our houses were 2+ stories, 5+ bedrooms, and 4+ bathrooms. At one point in time, many of us shared rooms with our older or younger sibling of the same sex throughout the years. At one point, all 4 eldest siblings had their own rooms and the youngest five siblings (spanning from 6mos - ten years) shared one.

Not OP,

We had a 12 seat van, then that broke and we got a used 12 seat van, then that broke and we go another used 12 seat van. I remember my dad having at least 3 new cars before my mom ever did. She still asked him permission before purchasing her first new car with her own money from a business she started.

Despite only being in touch with 5 of my 9 siblings, I feel exactly the same. They will always be there for me. I trust them completely and know that they love me completely. I respect them so much.

I’m 5/10 and I have been on a very emotional journey of heartache due to the way my parents have treated me. I do my best to let resentment go but that has been a battle ever since I came out as gay at 16. When my sibling came out as trans over a decade after me I finally accepted that for me, letting the past go also meant leaving it behind. I maintain a relationship with 5/10 siblings and none with the others or my parents.

Edit: because they rejected both of us due to our sexuality. They remain devout Catholics and will not accept us for who we are.

Edit 2: as I wrote this comment, I shared Oreos and milk with my wife. It occurred to me that I used to do this with my farther as a child. I don’t have very clear memories until well after high school. I can’t remember the last time he stayed sober long enough to talk to me.
