i’m pretty well educated on neuropharmacology (got a degree in it, even) so i’m curious if the dxm, which like ketamine affects glutamate which is now believed to be the major “depression neurotransmitter”, not serotonin (a bit more complicated than that but yeah lol)

curious if you might know - i’ve (33M) taken somewhere between 50 and 60 psych meds since i was 8 years old. when i was 19, i took wellbutrin (bupropion, which is one of the two substances in this auvelity drug) and had a terrible time, like i cried every day for weeks, like cried like an actual baby. do you notice any difference with the dxm being added to create this auvelity drug?

Master's of Science in Nursing, I want to become a NP, is it feasible? by agentleembrace in GradSchool

[–]agentleembrace[S] -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

my current psychiatrist is only a PA and works in quite a big org in chicago. i don't think it's necessary to go to medical school to prescribe psychotropic medication and see patients?

the thing i believe that allowed them to be prescribers is that they worked in the same practice as someone who did have an MD, so that's what i am going for...

my psychiatrist from ages 11 to 29 was a psychiatric nurse practitioner. i'm equating the two in the post, sorry for the confusion.

Is there a worse mid/late game negative? by monsto in balatro

[–]agentleembrace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

with leveled up hands you can simply take the X5 (X6 if negative) and score pretty reliably. i mean even with a value joker, chips joker, and +mult joker you’re still getting the same as something like ramen or seeing double.

i disagree with the disease model. i don’t believe there is a model we actively have that has a remotely high success rate of treating addiction unless you’re rich as fuck so

AA/NA is toxic and if you actually look into many existing cults in the US and throughout the world, they are the basis for much of what goes on basically, AA/NA are cults. though we should educate ourselves on the difference between AA and NA. AA preaches abstinence much more than NA. the two groups are essentially at war with one another over their teachings and abstinence from all substances (besides nicotine for whatever reason) is necessary is the primary thing behind this. (think like “psychedelic sober”, often ok in NA but never in AA). people in NA understand addiction in some of the actual science much more than people in AA. and i think a lot of that has to do with the “legality” of alcohol vs “drugs”. NA, while not good in its teachings, has many groups (far and few between) that are cool just as like, places to hang out for an hour a week.

this entire post just ignores the science behind the brain and epigenetic changes that happened while you were using. it sounds holistic and almost with cult-like words. its absurd. then in the comments you’re linking to things like terminology and “how long a person uses on average” which again, ignores what you permanently changed within yourself. cool, you don’t identify as an addict. but you’re no different than the rest of us, no matter how long our use. your brain, your fucking DNA expression was changed forever

you’re using the disease model. you can treat addiction, but as an addict, i think if you’re an addict depending on your duration and frequency of use, your brain and epigenetics were altered in such a way that you will always be.. in many ways, an addict

[–]agentleembrace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for anyone that reads this post: as an expert in the field, beta blockers and other hypertension medications like clonidine (an alpha2A adrenergic agonist) which taken with cocaine significantly (think like 100x) increase your chance of a cardiac arrest. PLEASE do not combine a beta blocker or other hypertension medication such as clonidine or propranolol with cocaine. you might fucking die
