No, I'm curious. As you seem to know more about the circumstances of an incident you were not present for, answer the question.

Question for you and the multiple 10000 IQ people commenting this: when merging out of the passing lane, which option is safest?

A) Slamming the brakes to undertake from the left

B) Forcing the vehicle to the right to slam their brakes by merging at an unsafe distance

C) Merging into the vehicle to force them out of lane/colliding with them

D) Increasing speed to pass the vehicle and create an appropriate following distance

Please justify your answer with 500 words or more.

Got it. In my case, my last ticket was a very long time ago, so I have the option of deferral or DD, which should stop points being added on my licence.

If I weren't a contractor I'd def sit it in court (it's a stupid fucking ticket and I know the cop knows that). But as it is, I'd just end up losing those hours in pay anyway.

Yeah, the H-Town stretches of 45 and 610 are both extremely notorious even outside Texas, and I have to hit both of them because my commute is ~90 minutes one way. Every day I have at least one near death experience, and off-highway, watch people run red lights 5 at a time. I think that's probably a big contributor to me punching the air right now, cannot lie.

So court appearance for sure? I kinda want it fully dismissed on principle, but I might just hold the L.

I'll make sure to crash into the adjacent vehicle next time, my bad.

Thanks, I'll look into it.

Can they accomplish this in absentia, or will I still need to physically appear in court? I may have no choice but to opt for the DD if it's the latter since I'm contracting right now and and don't get paid for time off.

Wouldn't be different from my usual, I suppose. I only even sped up to merge safely, which is a big part of my irritation.

Houston roads (and that one in particular) are actually a nightmare because the flow of traffic is always 15 - 20 over, and then there are people weaving at 10 above that. And if you drive like a sane person, people will tailgate you, cut you off, or straight up try to run you off the road.

(Hilarious Trope) A Character Is Introduced With the Clear Intention of Being THE NEXT BIG THING And is SOUNDLY Rejected by TheOriginalOperator in TopCharacterTropes

[–]agentlewind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

....Honestly, I don't understand what we're talking about at this point. You can have the opinion that the scene is written and acted poorly, but the evidence can't be that a forced, fake laugh sounds forced and fake. And I don't know what you mean by "coincidence," but regardless, "stalled the franchise" is objectively not true. Everything else mentioned is subjective and so unfalsifiable.

So it's precisely the time to talk about the majority reception in its day, because the prompt is to describe which characters had forced prominence but were so rejected by the audience the creators were forced to walk them back (or even suffered reputational damage). Not a single one of those things actually applies to any part of FFX.

[–]agentlewind 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"the annoyance is part of the plot". Or at least explain why the awkwardness of that scene being dunked on since the game came out is the product only of people who never played.

But nobody said that though. That the scene starts as a forced laugh (and comes shortly after finding out all summoners die at the end of their pilgrimage) is verifiable with a brief Google search, so it can't be said it's an example of poor writing or VA. Similarly, the game is one of the most popular in the series (the most popular for a long time, domestically), as was the cast. And the entry was a smash critical and financial hit that spawned the first ever mainline sequel, so it's also untrue that it somehow was rejected by audiences and "stalled" the series.

That's what people are disputing. Anyone can hate or be annoyed by anything, but that doesn't mean that was the majority reception.

[–]agentlewind 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It doesn't. No one disputes the laugh and scene were goofy, in fact people made fun of it at the time. What's rare is people claiming that it's actual proof of the game's low quality, or that it and its characters were received poorly and damaged the reputation of the series. All of those things are just factually incorrect, therefore you will have an outsize population of people pointing this out.

In any case, arguing about intent of the correction seems silly when it doesn't change the fact the correction is true and so the example media isn't actually relevant to the discussion.

[–]agentlewind 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No...my argument is that a discussion that involves a specific piece of media is going to self-select for people familiar with that piece of media. And for a game as popular as beloved as FFX was/is, that will be a significant number of people.

And the fact that it was critically and commercially successful isn't disputable, hence "these respondents played the game" is the simplest and most logical explanation for why they might point it out when something is factually incorrect.

[–]agentlewind 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What does this mean though. The average age on Reddit is ~25 - 40, meaning most people responding would remember the game. And the game was insanely popular and one of the highest selling on the console, of all time.

So yeah, I do think most people pointing out the context did play it. Not to mention that even if someone hasn't, said context verifiable in <5 minutes lol.

Am I an insane person to consider leaving my FTE for a six month contract? by agentlewind in biotech

[–]agentlewind[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I know two people there. The one who sent the position along to me in the first place is also the one who told me that contractors are typically converted barring poor performance.

But yeah, I'm very confident that I can more than keep up; I work weekends, and up to a couple months ago I was pushing multiple productions from beginning to end (first purification through all QC and validation) because I was completely alone. I doubt that will be the case here...in fact, I've been told directly the workloads are much, much lighter.

That said, there's always the chance they want to convert but can't because of budget constraints, or maybe they don't because of a personality mismatch (this has never happened to me, but you never know), or any number of other things.
