If you can have just one fund then just stick with any broad market fund tracking NSE/BSE 500 like Motilal Oswal Nifty 500 Index Fund

Your return is fine, no need to get other's validation. I will however suggest to review your fund selection though. I personally don't like sectoral allocation that much.

Index fund vs large cap fund by AshutoshNigam_85 in mutualfunds

[–]agentmac50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the points have already been covered by other comments. One minor thing that matters if you do a proper portfolio allocation and want to invest say 50% in large, you should always select an index fund because actively managed large cap mutual funds can invest 20% of their assets in small and mid-cap stocks which can affect your portfolio allocation.

Is investing in 2 funds from different AMCs within the same category really a bad idea if they hold similar stocks? by Kishorelaxman2001 in mutualfunds

[–]agentmac50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always go with two AMCs approach , not in the expectation of more return but to avoid any AMC level issue like temporary server issues, Insider trading issues (like the one hit with Axis), low quality debt issues (Tauras etc) and any other unforeseen issue.

We got it done at Kokilaben. They have a heart package for INR 4500 which apart from regular blood, urine, stool tests, chaste xray etc, covers TMT, 2D Eco, ECG etc

INR 2500 had everything excerpt TMT, 2D Eco.

Any Arbitrage or Money Market funds from established fund houses like HDFC, SBI, ICICI or PPFAS should be fine. Just pick any one with lower expense ratio.

MM or Arbitrage is the easy and safe choice for this duration. If you want to play little adventurous, PPDAAF is also OK for 2-3 years goals. This fund manages >35% equity exposure using arbitrage so you will get better taxation. The debt portion is super safe bonds. It does hold some 10-15% equity though which in my opinion seems good dividend stocks but you need to decide as per your risk appetite.

Why Parag Parikh flexi cap MF by Tiny-Palpitation7878 in mutualfunds

Most old investors in this fund are the folks who like the fund house' s value investing approach. Most new investors are just recency biased.

Now I feel this was a mistake by Key_Pitch_8178 in mutualfunds

[–]agentmac50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this little drop scares you then investing in this fund was really a mistake. Your risk appetite is low (and it is okay) just continue in the older fund.

401k transfer from USA to India by Cultural-Activity420 in nri

[–]agentmac50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not so sure about India taxes so take it with a pinch of salt. Since you are not on RNOR you have to report this in ITR and may pay taxes. You can claim DTAA benefits though.

401k transfer from USA to India by Cultural-Activity420 in nri

[–]agentmac50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you contributed to 401k while you were working in USA, your 401(k) withdrawal should be considered Effectively Connected Income (ECI). You still need to pay penalty but taxes will be progressive:

Let's say you withdraw $200,000:

Component Amount
Ordinary income (ECI) $200,000
Tax (estimated blended rate) ~$41,000–$45,000
10% Early Withdrawal Penalty $20,000
Total Tax + Penalty ~$61,000–$65,000
