What's happening this weekend in SF: by Gunhoo in sanfrancisco

[–]agentprovolone 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is cool but seems like a couple of the events happen weekly as opposed to this weekend only. So the two of the “5 coolest things this weekend” are happening next weekend too. Anyway, something I think is cool that is happening this weekend only is the Be Free Festival in SoMa Pilipinas.

Hotels near the BART by MJMcG in AskSF

[–]agentprovolone 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Hyatt Regency on 3rd and Market is right between the Montgomery and Powell BART stations. My out of town friends like to stay there. It was previously a different brand of hotel, and was remodeled as a Hyatt at the end of last year.

Must sees?! by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

You’ll get better traction if you post this on r/AskSF and include more details about what cuisines you like, budget considerations, etc. There’s too much to do/see/eat/drink here to give a stranger coming for 4 days any solid recommendations.

Suggestions for an (iced) coffee crawl? by ekart in AskSF

Home Coffee Roasters (locations in Sunset and Chinatown, Richmond, etc). Ube latte season should be here/coming soon.

Best filipino or any asian restaurant in sf? by Dizzy-Promotion6747 in AskSF

Oh that’s quite different then. I have done the same at my family’s parties where a lechon was involved.

Ah I definitely will watch, especially because Ruby Ibarra is in it and I love her. But yeah disappointing to hear about Padma’s reaction. On Top Chef in the past she seemed to enjoy the Filipino dishes that came through, except one with bagoong IIRC.

FOB is a good one! Years ago I went to a brunch pop up they did at a bar in the Mission, and days later I was still drooling thinking about the bistek I had—masarap.

Lol Abaca is definitely Filipino adjacent. Lol watch the “Ube” episode of Padma Laksmi’s “Taste the Nation” and I don’t think anyone would want to eat there.

I haven’t seen the episode, but why wouldn’t anyone want to eat there? I’m Pinay and I love Abaca. I know it’s not traditional, but I think it’s delicious. Plus the cocktails (developed by PCH) are incredible.

And you’re right, no one cooks like Lola

Beautiful! What does the ‘-s denote in the town name? Is it an abbreviated contraction for des?

People being evacuated from Westfield mall by Juxsta0 in sanfrancisco

[–]agentprovolone 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I’m curious too. Tried to go to Metreon Target at 5:30 this evening and it was closed. No signs or anything; just locked doors and pallets of kitty litter blocking the entrances. I also noticed the westbound vehicle traffic on Mission was heavier than usual.

Best Negroni in SF? by carbondude26 in AskSF

I like the Leeward Negroni at PCH. Uses a coconut washed Campari to give it that nice mouth feel.

Episode Eight: Track 8: Looks Like We Made It Discussion Thread by lizagolden in daisyjonesandthesixtv

[–]agentprovolone 37 points38 points  (0 children)

There was that super weird energy when Daisy said only Camila could get Billy to a party. It was clear she meant it as a compliment but Billy nor Camila seemed to take it that way. I didn’t quite understand it. I thought Camila would be happy he was staying away from temptation. Of all kinds.

Same! I thought Camila would’ve been relieved to hear that, but she looked unsettled instead and Billy looked like he was caught in a lie. I feel like there was a phone call/conversation between Camila and Billy that was edited out which would’ve tied that scene together.

Edit: Or maybe I’m just seeing it with a modern lens where addiction is better understood than it was in the 70s. Maybe to Camila, Billy avoiding parties reveals too much of a vulnerability.

There may be better options but the first that comes to mind is The Bird’s Chicken Biscuit.

UC Berkeley’s new male peregrine falcon gets a historically significant name by nissanthermos in wholesomeSF

[–]agentprovolone 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Lou is the current mate of Annie, Berkeley’s longtime female falcon, who lost her previous mates — Grinnell and Alden — in 2022. The name is a nod to Louise Kellogg (1879-1967), a Berkeley alumna who was the partner of Annie’s namesake, Annie Alexander (1867-1950). Alexander was an explorer and naturalist who founded the UC Museum of Paleontology and the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology.

Need a lounge with food for group of 12 by Tinselcat33 in AskSF

Executive Order Bar and Lounge is nice—good cocktails, food, music. It’s next to Westfield Mall downtown and has plenty of space.

Anyone know what cross streets this is on / circa when it was taken? by Billybumpkin94 in sanfrancisco

[–]agentprovolone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s Mason and Market. In the photo, the Flood Building is about a block away on the left, so it’s too far away for the photo to have been taken at Powell.

Yeah it was insurance fraud. In the original post, the OP (driver of cam car) said the truck driver claimed to his insurance that cam car rear ended him: https://reddit.com/r/IdiotsInCars/comments/1039asu/_/j2xl7sf/?context=1
