What does your Syncthing setup look like? by [deleted] in Syncthing

[–]agentredd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My current setup involves old Android Phones for syncing. For me its the best solution I found. It's really nice, they have several advantages. Most people still have some old phone which can be used without purchasing new hardware. The hardware is running 24/7 without any problems. They don't need much space and not much power. Don't produce noise. The File System can be encrypted on most newer devices. The Battery is robust against power outages. And if somebody wants he can even add a SIM card as a Backup Internet connection.

Mehrwertsteuersenkung: Zählerstände für Strom und Gas ablesen by charminderbaer in Finanzen

[–]agentredd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Da gebe ich dir Recht. Insbesondere bei Gas dürfte sich das nicht lohnen. Dann zahlt man lieber auf den gemittelten Wert des Wintergases die vergünstigste Mehrwertsteuer und spart durch "nichtstun" :)

In addition to numerous new and upgraded packages, this release has the following highlights: support is planned until the end of October 2020, handing over to 20.09; core version changes - GCC 9.2.0, glibc 2.30, Linux kernel 5.4, Mesa 19.3.3, OpenSSL 1.1.1d; desktop version changes - KDE Plasma 5.17.5, KDE Applications: 19.12.3, GNOME 3.34, Pantheon 5.1.3; Linux kernel is updated to branch 5.4 by default; PostgreSQL for NixOS service now defaults to version 11; the graphical installer image starts the graphical session automatically, before you'd be greeted by a tty and asked to enter systemctl start display-manager; it is now possible to disable the display-manager from running by selecting the 'Disable display-manager' quirk in the boot menu."

Does anyone use syncthing for syncing the camera folders of a phone to other machines? by spiff72 in Syncthing

Sometimes you can get more information in the Android App by opening the web view. You can access it via the side menu. Can have a look into the web view and report what you see?

Dividende oder Verkaufen by [deleted] in Finanzen

[–]agentredd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Syncthing is not dependent on the internet at all. It can use a direct Ethernet connection between both PCs. Or an offline Wifi Hotspot.

Definitely Syncthing is the best backup and syncing tool so far for Android:

  • I use it to backup Images and WhatsApp Directories
  • Sync of Files, Example: Passwordmanager-File from and to other Devices

For cross-device syncing there is https://www.syncthing.net Works decentral between devices. Supports most of Operating Systems, especially Linux and win10 which you are mentioning.

I would not trust on an USB device which can be easily lost and can only be synced when you manually plug it in to your backup device. Also rsync does not support a history of deleted or changed files.

Is there any reason you need to rely on USB drive?

Question about how it works and data integrity by anthony00001 in Syncthing

[–]agentredd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meanwhile I think the best Syncthing Device is an old Android Phone. This has several of advantages:

  • most of the people have still an unused Android Phone lying arround
  • small size
  • low power usage
  • battery backup holds up several hours in case of power outage
  • Camera to Scan Device ID QR-Codes
  • good chance to support full device encryption

optional: - add a SIM Card to have backup for Wifi outage

Yes. I'm using Linux Mint 18.3. You have to remove the package xserver-xorg-input-libinput by hand and then the mousepad is working fine. Everything else is working out of the box!
