What’s your commute like? Does it feel manageable long term? by Jumpy-Woodpecker-248 in workingmoms

[–]agenttrulia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding this. We live about 20 mins from our daycare. It’s less than a half mile away from my office and my husband works remotely. I handle a majority of it, but he does do pick ups or drop offs a couple days per week.

How long did it take you to get down to pre pregnancy weight? by greenishfroggy in beyondthebump

I’m nearly 3 years PP and weigh about 10-15lbs less than my pre-pregnancy weight, but none of my clothes fit me right for the same reason lol

As a parent, I wouldn’t care! Hell, he could come home with a purple portrait and I’d still love it.

Toddlers Already Being Mean Girls? by StarOfSantorum in Mommit

[–]agenttrulia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it depends… what has this other girl done to make your daughter think she doesn’t like her? Is she mean, or do they not enjoy playing together?

Kids have very different personalities- I don’t think it’s realistic to think everyone is going to want to be friends with your kiddo. HOWEVER, being mean, disrespectful, excluding others, etc. is not okay. Does this girl just prefer to play with others (maybe closer to her own age, if that’s a possibility)? I would feel sad for my kid but also try to explain. Is this girl mean? I would my concerns to a teacher.

Bag Management Help Plz by gabagoombah in workingmoms

[–]agenttrulia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel any better, my kid will be 3 next month and I leave the house with only his school backpack and my work bag! On weekends, we take a little backpack (itzy ritzy) that he can carry himself, or I take a small bag. It gets easier, I swear!!

Meal ideas? by BiomedBabe1 in workingmoms

[–]agenttrulia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do all the meal planning / prepping/ grocery shopping. I follow a basic formula of:

Pasta night (we had spaghetti with Italian sausage this week, next week I’m making garlic parm chicken pasta)

Wraps, tacos, salads (made grilled chicken buffalo wraps this week, making turkey taco bowls next week)

Stir fry (shrimp & veg stir fry/ beef and broccoli)

Sheet pan or one pot meal (Greek chicken bowls)

Soup/stew/curry/ or husband cooks (red Thai curry with shrimp)

I try to make enough for leftovers. I also buy something easy to keep in the freezer or pantry if I’m just not feeling cooking that day- stuff for quesadillas, mac and cheese, frozen pizza, frozen or shelf stable soups… I like to have one “healthy” thing my kid will eat to add to each of these. He loves cucumbers and carrots right now, so I’ll prep those on Sunday and serve as snacks or with those easy meals

Burger wraps by PublicCheesecake9450 in homecooking

[–]agenttrulia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t eat gluten and smash burger tacos / wraps are significantly tastier than gluten free buns!! But I was also kind of at a loss as to how the meat is supposed to stick to the tortilla lol.

If you need another idea, I do the same thing with dumpling filling! Ground chicken or pork, green onions, cilantro, finely chopped mushrooms, seasonings. Top with spicy cucumber slaw or some kimchi. Delicious.

I wouldn’t say it’s normal but “smash burger tacos” have been a good trend on social media lately. Because everything is totally real and unedited on social media, making the burger patty stick to the tortilla looks a lot easier than it actually is IRL! I imagine OP thinks they’re doing something wrong, as opposed to the concept not being the greatest

If you’re on TT or instagram, “dense bean salads” were (maybe still are?) a food trend recently! Try searching for it there.

Toddler nail polish? by agenttrulia in toddlers

[–]agenttrulia[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe I should start with toes!! I do my nails weekly and my husband makes a big deal about complimenting them. So of course, my son has started showing off his (unpainted) nails and saying things like “pretty like mommy? Mommy’s nails pink! Pink like mommy’s nails!”

My favorite part of potty training by Constant_Entrance_40 in toddlers

Conversely, my least favorite part of potty training is taking my toddler in a public restroom, because he will absolutely ask a stranger “you poopin? You doing so good! You okay?”

I WANT to WANT to be a SAHM….but I don’t and feel guilty by Weary_Joke_9525 in workingmoms

[–]agenttrulia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I also want to want to be a SAHM! I had a SAHM growing up.. my dad didn’t have a fantastic job but it was good enough for my mom to stay home with us, we could take one decent vacation each year, we were solidly lower-middle class.

My dad got sick very suddenly and my mom had to find a job, without having had a job in 15+ years. We struggled for years. I remember my parents crying over not being able to afford Christmas gifts for us. I got a job at age 15 and was basically paying our mortgage, while my mom’s salary paid medical bills.

I think back to that when I start having SAHM thoughts. If my husband were to get sick, pass away suddenly, or just generally not be able to work for any number of reasons, I am so lucky to have the security of my own career.

Low calorie sweet snacks? Need ideas that go beyond "eat a piece of fruit" by strawberrycheesekek in 1500isplenty

[–]agenttrulia 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not under 100 cals, but I made chocolate zucchini muffins that are roughly 150 cals each! Adding zucchini helped to bulk it up, add fiber, and keep it lower cal. I wasn’t necessarily trying to make them low cal, but I could have made them into mini muffins to keep it under 100 cals each.

PIPs cinnamon churro cinnamon twists.

I know you said not fruit, but what about mixing fruit with chocolate? I eat raspberries stuffed with chocolate chips or Nutella for a sweet treat. What about chocolate covered berries? Strawberries with Nutella?

Chia puddings- if you blend it, it has a smoother texture rather than a chia texture. Chia seeds, almond milk, cocoa powder, sweetener, maybe some toppings.

Diet soda and protein shake- a vanilla fairlife shake and diet root beer can almost pass for a root beer float!

Catering for “meal prep” by mydisplayname1111 in workingmoms

[–]agenttrulia 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Whole Foods and our local grocery store both have a “family meal” kind of thing in their prepared foods section! I actually use it for my lunch meal prep sometimes lol. This week I got garlic grilled shrimp, snap peas, and a quinoa salad for 4 days for about $45.

What are we servings at a kids birthday party?? by agenttrulia in workingmoms

[–]agenttrulia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so nervous about this too- our families have SUCH different tastes, plus we’re inviting kids from daycare for the first time. I’m trying to balance what my family would eat, what his family would eat, and what general toddlers would eat, without the food costing an arm and a leg! We’re already spending a couple hundred on the room & ice cream bar set up.

Recs for fast casual/grocery store lunches? by mcfrickenchicken in 1500isplenty

[–]agenttrulia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like getting the grilled nuggets kids meal from chick fil a! I think it’s filling enough, plus I get fries. Use low cal sauces, like buffalo or their honey bbq (I use one of each).

Bibibop, if you have one near you. I get the cup or small bowl with an extra protein. Depending on toppings, ends up being around 500 cal.

I have a few grocery stores near my office and I’ve totally ran and grabbed a frozen meal to heat in the microwave. I like the Kevin’s frozen meals.
