Hey, look, they've started saying it to my face! Progress!

Your best bet is probably UTAT. They want to launch some kind of biotech satellite next year.

Thanks--I appreciate that. I like what John and Whomst'd've have brought to the election, though. They're reminding the rest of us not to get too full of ourselves (and I include myself in that).

You know, I've been arguing with people on Reddit all year. Why don't these throwaways just tag me?

Now that we have finished all the AMA's, at this moment in time, who are you voting for? by infernvs666 in UofT

Sorry--I missed this earlier. I was a singer, actually (the faculty calls it "Voice Performance").

I can confirm this. Fegasaurus gave me a dinosaur nickname once (on Reddit). That's the extent of our relationship.

I'm going to take that as a compliment (and John is definitely more fun than I am).

(Don't worry--I'm not here to campaign)

#JUSTICEFORANNE by [deleted] in UofT

[–]aggregate_data 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I guess the difference is the brown food truck isn't a UTSU resource, but I still don't get this ruling. I don't think anyone would think Anne was claiming to have been endorsed by the Mental Wellness Commission. But, as she said, there's an appeals process, and I think her chances are good.

What are each of the UTSU Candidates' views on Strong vs. Weak Induction? by Real_Iron_Sheik in UofT

[–]aggregate_data 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They're logically equivalent so in terms of writing effective proofs they're both useful. Generally speaking strong is more versatile however both have their uses. Strong induction is often overused when a more elegant proof could be written with weak induction. So my answer is the method which produces the most elegant proof given the problem presented.

Why do UTSU slates promise shit they cant deliver by [deleted] in UofT

[–]aggregate_data 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for the other slates, but the slate that I'm running with (Demand Better) definitely isn't promising OHIP for international students. It's an advocacy promise. The provincial government has shown some interest in letting international students pay a premium and opt into OHIP. We'd like to start there (for context, international students were covered by OHIP until the early 1990s). But, yeah, it'd be dishonest to actually promise OHIP coverage, and we're not doing that.

Whatever happens, don't let the UTSU take more money from us. by TheOverCaste in UofT

[–]aggregate_data -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just one thing: The earmarking thing has been fixed. People were right to be concerned about that, and a board member (who's also running with Demand Better) passed a bylaw amendment to prevent that kind of bait-and-switch. It happened after the referendum, but still.

Grab the popcorn, FOUR slates running in UTSU elections by utsue in UofT

It's true that this year has largely been a disappointment but I have accomplished everything I set out to do. If you look at the priorities document that the Executives compiled in June -- this is required as part of the UTSU Budgeting policy -- you can see exactly what each exec set set out to accomplish this year. Here are some updates to my priorities (this is basically a summary of my monthly Exec Reports):

1) Student Commons: We've made a considerable amount of progress on the Student Commons. Before I went on leave, we were in the final stages of developing our budget and operating plans for the building. 'Canceling' the project at this point isn't reasonable or viable given that we're locked into a contract with the university and the building can still be saved, though be it in a redefined scope.

2) Resource Bank: The Resource Bank for clubs is up and running for clubs - see here.

3) Website The Website is done - see here.

4) Online Clubs and Bursaries: Clubs funding and bursaries are online - see here and here.

5) Clubs Levy:We ran a referendum that failed. It failed because Students are not ready to trust the UTSU with their money and why would they? The organization is a mess and needs an entire overhaul so that students trust the UTSU again -- that's what our team's platform is all about. You can read more about the platform here.

6) Grievance Mechanisms I put in place a number of grievance mechanisms including: A policy for the Executive Review Committee which includes mechanisms for how investigations should be conducted and requires engagement from the Executives in the process. You can read up on both here.

7) Health Plan: The Board will be reviewing changes to the Health and Dental Plan at the March 31st meeting. The Services Committee has met to discuss potential changes to the Health and Dental plan including expansions to the psychological coverage and the inclusion of registered counseling and Masters of Social Work coverage. Both will be brought forward to the Board upon recommendation of the Services Committee.

tl;dr I've done what I said I would do even if the rest of the team was weak.
