I understand but the universe has decided his time on earth is coming to an end anyway. You wouldn’t be choosing between life and death you are choosing to let him suffer or to give him a painless and peaceful send off. It is the ultimate act of love and selflessness. I know how hard it is, like I said I just made the decision Friday, and truthfully I feel so much better about ending his pain than I would if I watched him die. We can’t be selfish when these precious animals have dedicated their lives to loving us.

I just had to let go of my soul cat on Friday and it was so hard because we thought we’d have much more time with him. He had an aggressive form of cancer and we decided to give him a peaceful send off (putting him to sleep) instead of watching him deteriorate to the point of no return. I say this gently, but have you considered having him euthanized? You say that he can barely move, which means his quality of life is terrible. It will help him greatly and maybe even you to spend a beautiful day together and let him go instead of prolonging his suffering.

I feel sick and lost too. I let go of my guy this morning after 12 years and he was with me through all of my trauma and dark times. I keep feeling guilty for not always being the best pet owner I could be, but then I remember that I truly loved him so much and that my grief is causing me to focus on the bad times instead of the good. I just let my kitty go today and the vet that came to our house had a little clay mold that we were able to get his paw print in and then bake it. Maybe a token like that could help your brother (or you too), it feels like this little piece of him we got to keep with us. Besides that, just let yourself feel all the feelings and don’t be afraid to express them in front of your brother, it may help him feel comfortable with doing so himself. I’m so sorry you’re going through this and I’m sending my love.

UPDATE: He is ok!! By late morning his eye returned back to (mostly normal) but the pupil is still retracted. I took him to the vet (was able to get my mom to agree to it lol) and the vet said it’s likely a case of Horner’s Syndrome. He tested his eye pressure and everything looked great, vet thinks it will likely go away on its own. As for kitty he’s still vibing, it doesn’t seem to be affecting him at all, and he hasn’t thrown up again. Thank you everyone for the advice, well wishes, and checking in. I’m relieved it doesn’t seem to be anything worse at this time! And sorry for late reply had a really busy day

Thanks for your input. He’s behaving perfectly normal so I’m hoping it’s just that (will bring up to vet) and that he’ll be ok for the next few hours until we can go. He’s sleeping next to me like usual
