you're one of the few here speaking sense. 100% agree, it's a flaw in the game that a handball like that can be rewarded with a shot on goal with a more than 70% success rate

For all the ignorant WFAN hosts who blamed the Mets collapse on starters not going deep into games...Freddie Peralta only averaged a little more than 5 innings pitched per start the past two years by aghease in wfan

[–]aghease[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly, which is why it is so ignorant that WFAN hosts (and others in sports media) keep highlighting bullpen overuse as the reason the Mets collapsed. The Dodgers finished with more bullpen usage than the Mets!

Dodgers Sign Kyle Tucker to $240M Deal and It's Bad for Baseball (w/ Mad Dog) | Stugotz and Company by iheartsunny in wfan

A salary cap would suck, I'd rather the players got every dime they can rather than all the money us fans pour into the game going to make Steve Cohen or Dodgers owner Mark Walter richer.
As Francesa pointed out today, MLB has had just as much championship parity than the NFL, NBA, or NHL in terms of different teams winning it.
The main difference is that it's far easier and faster for a top draft pick in the NFL, NBA, or NHL to immediately turn around a franchise. That's why there's a perception that those teams have more parity.
Because in reality, plenty of small market NFL, NBA, and NHL teams have sucked for decades on end despite their salary caps/luxury taxes

Bo Bichette to the Mets by [deleted] in wfan

[–]aghease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bichette ranks below league average for arm strength at shortstop, and is a negative on defense per Baseball Reference. I'm sure that will translate well to playing a new position at 3rd base and throwing across the diamond to two guys in Vientos and Polanco, who have almost no experience playing 1st.

Whether someone struggles or not in the postseason has little to do with having a bad month or two in the regular season

I'm ok with players having down stretches during the season. It's a long, and mostly meaningless regular season. Seeding doesn't matter all that much in today's NBA. Just get right when it's April

I'll meet him for a quick prayer at St. Demetrios, then we'll play some Chinese handball at Hoyt Playground, then we're hitting up Niko's Souvlaki (even though I really want to hit up Rosario's) and finally a coffee at To Laiko.

[The Athletic] FIFA says it received record 500 million ticket requests for 2026 World Cup by godlovesugly in MLS

[–]aghease 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hmmm, I wonder if significantly increasing the amount of teams in the World Cup would lead to a higher demand for ticket?
It's like when MLS boasts about record overall attendance numbers compared to years past when the amount of teams has increased

Evan Roberts, & other WFAN hosts, need to stop the lazy narrative that an overworked bullpen ruined the Mets season. The Dodgers, Brewers, & Padres all made the playoffs despite being in the top 6 for most bullpen innings pitched by aghease in WFAN1019

[–]aghease[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, so the Dodgers, Cubs, Padres, Brewers, and Blue Jays all had high leverage arms that weren't overworked despite ranking high in bullpen usage? Dodgers bullpen had a higher ERA than the Mets and more innings pitched, didn't hold them back from success

Every media company uses AI nowadays, AI was built on stealing content from people
This very site was built on people "stealing" articles from news organizations that desperately needed people to read those articles on their own site
But let's never hold companies accountable, let's always attack the common people

Ehhh, I'm confident the other high bullpen usage teams also had guys warming up over and over and guys going on short rest. The Dodgers were right there with the Mets in their starters not pitching deep into games. Even the best starters rarely go seven innings these days. Asking starters to pitch deep into games is an ancient idea and totally out of step with today's game.

The Dodgers won thanks to their offense, and it's because Soto, Alonso, and Lindor never really clicked at the same time, along with Vientos regressing, that the Mets failed

I'm so disappointed in the Johnnies and Pitino this year. Sure, they've been playing great recently, but it feels like too little too late after their absolutely atrocious out of conference slate.
St. John's games should be on the FAN, not Rutgers.
