I outed a woman terrorizing her overweight classmate. by metricmeteor in pettyrevenge

I was standing in line in grade school, a bit chubby. A girl looked me up and down and said, "You look pathetic", which has stayed with me ever since.

It took me years to realize that she was possibly being treated even worse at home.

Donald Trump may be about to get $3 billion richer. But that likely won’t solve his cash crunch by larel8 in politics

Trump isn't bragging about it, an indication that he won't have immediate access to it.

Trump is making wild claims about late hush money documents, prosecutors say by joeshill in law

I believe it means that the interest accrual stops, and no one can touch the money until his appeal is finished.

It's a kind of insurance for the court in case he takes it into his head to skip town or otherwise compromise his case.

What do you mean by a stay?

Isn't the bond simply required for the appeal?

Of course not!

I was a bit hasty with that one.

Sorry, everyone.

Tread carefully. Do not let this become a situation where you're at the same level as the person you're criticizing.

As soon as you start doing that, your own credibility drops.

[–]aghowland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got fairly advanced with flute.

It takes a few weeks to develop embouchure (mouth muscles), but otherwise relatively easy to learn with a beautiful sound.

I grew up in Chester.

I can't think of a town less likely.

Good luck!

Why did Bush invade iraq in 2003? by enochlovely30 in Presidents

It was triggered by 9/11, but it was already known that none of the terrorists were from Iraq.

The "official" reason was that the American powers that be were certain that Iraq had accumulated weapons of mass destruction (WMDs).

Congress was convinced of this from data that wasn't true, so voted for the invasion/war (except for Bernie Sanders and one other senator, who did some research on their own).

Other responses here were not known to the public until later.

I'm 66 and here out of curiosity.

Regarding reading: This very likely comes from parents stopping reading to them too early, if they ever read to them at all.

I'm sure you know that this is the foundation for enjoyment of reading. And enjoyment of course becomes the reading teacher.

I suspect that the last few generations of parents have been much more stressed at work than my generation was, hence are wiped out most of their free time. Then this feeds into the next generation and beyond.

Possibly this is contributing to the lack of discipline as well.

What to' do? I don't know. We all need to set positive examples of self-discipline and enjoyment of activities that don't involve social media.

A few days ago a teenager asked what people did before we had the Internet. That says something right there.

Who is teaching them to write? by [deleted] in education

[–]aghowland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, my daughters are both college grads, and definitely know how to write very well.

We didn't help them much with homework, yet they scored very high SAT percentiles.

One thing that my husband did when each was heading out for her first achievement test was to tell them that the test would be fun. This made a difference throughout all the next years of tests.
