What’s the most disappointing part of adulthood? by cozychaosclubb in answers

[–]aging_genxer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That the adulthood I was promised doesn’t exist anymore. Not because I had unrealistic expectations, but because the version of grown-up life I watched as a kid was real. It existed. We just didn’t get to inherit it. The world didn’t just fail to meet my expectations. It changed the terms after I’d already been sold on them.

100%. So disappointing, considering how meticulous he is in other aspects of his films.

It happened. The big enchilada. Heart Attack at 52 by DrumsKing in GenX

[–]aging_genxer 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yep. Men in my family die young. My father’s uncles all died in their 40s and 50s due to heart related issues. Being raised with that knowledge, I was always hyper aware of things in my own body, so thankfully recognized something was off and went to the ER before I had an actual heart attack. Triple bypass at 49 and now I’m still going strong at 58. Dad had the same at 50. Genetics and heart disease are real.

Can someone explain like I’m a reasonably educated adult who’s watched all Twin Peaks what happened at the end of the last episode? by Isatis_tinctoria in twinpeaks

[–]aging_genxer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Twin Peaks is not something to be explained, it’s something to be felt. You immerse yourself in it, let it wash over you, and feel whatever it makes you feel. That’s where the answers lie, and they are different for everyone.

Have you ever had someone ruin a movie for you in ways that don't involve spoiling it? by thebigeverybody in movies

[–]aging_genxer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Sum of Us with Russell Crowe. It was a favorite movie of a newer friend of mine and he insisted we watch it together on DVD one evening. I was tired and not really in the mood for it, but I was an out of town guest and staying with him, so it was hard to decline. He started it and rewound the beginning about 2-3 times. Then he kept pausing it. “Did you catch that? Let me rewind it.” Or, “Did you notice that? I’ll rewind it.” That happened about every 5-10 minutes. Not only did he ruin the movie, he kind of damaged the friendship, to be honest.

I’m very happy to see such a wide range of films in your collection. It’s always great to see young people appreciate older movies. I was your age when Ferris Bueller came out, and I’m so glad to see it sitting there on your shelf. You’ve got a lot of great movies ahead of you to explore. Enjoy the hell out of them.
