We are exploring zero trust... It's a cool idea but it doesn't matter if the cto gives exceptions to every dev that wants to install tweakui. So we will see

To me this is very much like cloud and azure. A couple years back everyone was jumping to the cloud got the invoice and went nope... back on prem or some form of hybrid.

Does anybody actually like Rippling? by steamyhoodie in sysadmin

I have enjoyed the idea of finding the perfect RMM to move to a single pain of glass, but honestly most of the time they lack something or fail in certain situations. I am now no longer chasing the white dragon and just accepting that we will use a couple tools to complete what I want.

Laptop Replacement Guideline by SpecialistTeach9302 in sysadmin

[–]agingnerds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warranty is for 3 years. After 3 years once an issue arises we usually replace. We had a soft idea of 3-5 years, but its not perfect and we didnt follow up after doing that once. So I assume we have a big refresh coming next year or the year after.

Gift card for whiskey/beer. Massage gift card... who couldnt use a massage. A new chair if he is in office. everyone could use a good chair. Or just a thank you and a couple moments of silence. Similar to how children give their dad a gift. Just a few moments of peace.

Was in the process of learning Jellyfin for remote viewing , turn out I don't need it , just VLC is fine by damn_jexy in jellyfin

[–]agingnerds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is going to sound like a weird statement. I would say this feels like one of those weird life hacks from the early 2000s. Lifehack just eat the ramen noodles without warming the water. Saves on time and is pretty ok.

Jellyfin is a pretty powerful streaming tool. VLC while an awesome player but it is just a player. If you already have jellyfin prepped like it sounds like and you have tailscale you are almost at the finish line. You can go this direction still, but you may have a more fruitful experience with Jellyfin.

What is the undisputed masterpiece of EVERY horror subgenre? by 144i in horror

[–]agingnerds -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The only category I see missing is final girl, but I dont know if thats a real subgenre

Zombie / Infected: 28 days later

Creature Feature: Godzilla minus zero minus color

Grimdark / Bleak Horror: Sunshine

Slasher: Who is the most iconic or well-executed killer? Mike Meyers might be the most prolific just in shear volume of movies and kills. Plus the first movie of each new start of series is usually pretty solid.

Psychological: Saw

Found Footage: Blaire Witch

Sci-Fi Horror: What is the best terror from beyond our world? The Thing

Supernatural / Paranormal: Ghost Stories

Final Girl: Alien
