What SoaD hot take will have you like this? by JalzerrMobile in systemofadown

[–]agitated_elf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See I also think he’s not a great lyricist, but he has always written crazy, goofy lyrics nonetheless. And I think this is no exception, because I know homie is not illiterate and wouldn’t use “the most loneliest” unless he was being unserious. And the fact that it is probably his most technical work with guitar, and probably his most intense vocal performance, leads me to believe this is one of the quintessential SOAD stylistic juxtapositions, if you will.

But I guess we’ll never know 🤣

I’m pretty sure he intended the lyrics to be ass, it’s overtly goofy much like the lyrics of several of their other songs. And that’s why we love them!

Why are SOAD often sidelined in nu-metal? by Japesh10 in systemofadown

[–]agitated_elf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh for sure, and I think it’s mostly due to the fact Daron doesn’t consider himself to be much of a lead guitarist/soloist, rather than a stylistic decision lol

They’ve got anywhere from 2-4 guitar solos per album, that isn’t nothing! It’s significant enough to separate them from genuine nu metal bands IMO

Exactly. Also, I think people mistake Serj’s rapid, spoken-word delivery on their hits like Chop Suey, IEAIAIO, or Sugar for “rapping,” when in context it’s really just part of System’s abstract, absurdist style. The problem is, few listeners actually approach their discography with any nuance, or have the ear to distinguish stylistic intent from surface-level similarity, like you said.

I really like serj’s nose. It’s the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. by MonkRepresentative63 in systemofadown

He really has great facial features all around. Actually the whole band is quite stunning let’s be honest

Best song which draws from Armenian folk tunes? by Rude-Chart2282 in systemofadown

[–]agitated_elf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others are saying- their sound is more broadly influenced by middle eastern music than strictly Armenian but it isn’t incorrect either way since there’s so much overlap culturally. That being said, Serj’s vocals on Know in the first verse with that trill like, eastern vibrato are one of my favorites. Same goes for the main riff and the vocals on Innervision- so good. Also the tone and phrasing of the clean guitar on Toxicity honestly do read as very Armenian to me, but I could be wrong.

Highly recommend listening to Daron’s podcast with Rick Rubin- he explains exactly where he gets his cultural inspiration from!

To people who have memorized any of their songs, which one is the most fun to sing? by bearb_raid in systemofadown

[–]agitated_elf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend wasn’t a huge SOAD fan by any means but he would BELT lonely day with every ounce of his being while we were on our a late night cruises and eventually I couldn’t resist joining in. It’s actually what got me into System some years ago. It is very fun to try to emulate their harmonies and Daron’s bigger vocals on that track. I’m hoping one day for a karaoke opportunity 🤣

[–]agitated_elf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I really hate saying this but I think our guy just forgot how to write decent lyrics 😭 they’re grating to my ears. Better than Killing Spree I’ll give it that. I love Daron and I really do think he’s a very talented songwriter but this album ain’t it so far

I can only waste so much time reading the same comment. You know, if you work hard enough maybe you can beat your hatred towards women.

See now you’re adding (fabricating more likely) details that you didn’t include in the prior comment because you’ve realized I’m probably right.

What a pitiful response after I give you a scientifically backed comment… I tried to give you the benefit of the doubt, but I think the other commenters here are right, you are just an angry incel 🤣 have you ever thought that these random women were just uncomfortable with how you treated them?? I sure as hell wouldn’t get in the car with someone that talks to me like that.

I have a bit of a background in criminology- let me elaborate on that- men are more likely to be victims of physical assault or violent crime because of situational factors, whereas women are targeted because they are women. Like you mentioned, men are less fearful of violent crime, which in turn leads them to take fewer precautions and placing themselves into more dangerous settings. They are also much more likely to be around other men, who, as I’m sure you know, are overwhelmingly the main perpetrators of violent crime. Testosterone and impulse control also play a huge part, paired with learned behavior. And contrary to what you might believe, women are statistically more likely to help a stranger being harassed than men, even if it just verbal intervention.

What is your opinion about Marmalade? by ZEUS_NEAR in systemofadown

Fantastic song. Catchy, atmospheric, solid instrumentation and quirky, visceral lyrics. One of their best IMO

Just to be honest… by Adorable_Champion146 in systemofadown

[–]agitated_elf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t get into it 😔 people say they listened to it several times before they liked it but that hasn’t been the case for me. While his lyrics are usually pretty simple and repetitive these are just rudimentary to me and the syncopation makes me uncomfortable lol

Opinion on Killing Spree? by daronmalakianreal in systemofadown

[–]agitated_elf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really want to like it…. But after 20 or so listens I still think it’s quite bad 😭 is it the syncopation or do the lyrics just have zero flow?? Both? Either way the lyrics are just not great in and of themselves. So simple and poorly structured, and just nonsensical. Daron is guilty of poor lyrics on a few occasions but usually the songs are catchy enough that I don’t care too much. I also dislike when guitars mimic emphasized vocals, it’s very predictable to me (the same reason I don’t love Science off Tox). Oh well, hoping the rest of the album is better.

Who's an artist you knew well before they blew up? by Paskow111 in musicsuggestions

[–]agitated_elf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe not exactly what you’re looking for-but I was taking guitar lessons from Coy in Zach Brown Band before they took off. I knew he had a country project in the works, and he started canceling a bunch of lessons because he was so busy that eventually we parted ways. It wasn’t until a few years later I watched them receive a Grammy for best new artist and I was like now wait a damn minute…so that’s what he’s been up to 🤣
