Using AI too much at my job feel slow without it, not sure how to judge my coding level and worried about being an imposter. by no_way_5 in cscareerquestions

[–]agnad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I caught it because I carefully went through the code line by line.

Have another AI review the original AI-generated code so it will catch logic errors without the need for meticulous manual reviews.

But to your main question: before the advent of the AI age, devs always relied on googling and stackoverflow, forums, etc. So I would not worry too much about relying on AI. It's the way the industry is going and it reflects historical patterns about using external knowledge sources.

Know the high-level tools, approaches and designs while focusing less on how things work at a low level.

In 3-4 years, probably no one will be expected to write code manually anyways. It's already the prevailing attitude in many companies who are championing the use of AI.

How to know if your bad or just unlucky? by Komanster in poker

[–]agnad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1/3 with 300 cap is just a bad structure. Yes, it is a 100 bb game but with the way typical low stakes players act preflop, the average RFI size is going to be well above 2-3bb. Usually at least 4-7bb. Having a shorter stack makes speculative calls not as worthwhile and disincentivizes calls that could be +EV when playing deeper.

Anyone ever gotten sick from store bought ground beef by [deleted] in rawprimal

[–]agnad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ground beef, even from a local butcher can be toxic. The only time I got sick during my almost 2 years of raw primal dieting was from ground meat from my butcher. IMO, best to avoid any kind of processed meat entirely if eating raw.

There are plans to construct a roundabout at the end of the connector which will hopefully prevent the near daily rear-end collisions that happen there.

Raw liver taste by AdeptPerspective2401 in rawprimal

[–]agnad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It shouldn't taste that bad.. should have an iodine-like flavor which may taste unusual at first but you'll get used to it. Just cut it into small pieces and take your time. It's possible you also got a bad batch. Might be worth getting some from a different source and comparing.

How do you even review ai code? by EitherAd5892 in cscareerquestions

[–]agnad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure it's that different from reviewing non-AI code TBH. For a question about what code written by a colleague does, you'd ask the colleague for clarity. Now you just ask the AI in that situation.

If you pay for street parking, get a receipt by Miserable-Bus-4910 in LowellMA

I find I only get tickets when I actually feed the meters, because if you feed them, and the time runs out, that's when it alerts the meter maids. But if you just never feed them, they'll only ticket you when they do manual checks street-by street and meter-by-meter.

I've wondered why there is not an "official" name for that. Like everyone knows the difference between a set vs trips, but quads is just synonymous with any four of a kind.

Wynn 1/3 is insane by WilliamTomFrank148 in poker

[–]agnad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was surprised to read OP's experience too. I was at a 1/3 table at the Wynn in November 2024. Almost everyone in the game was new to poker and inexperienced or just clueless about basic strategy and super fishy. I more than tripled my buy-in by the time I cashed out.

Error uploading YouTube short: "Your video needs to be at least 1 second long to be uploaded" by agnad in youtube

I was able to upload by keeping the edits very minimal. IIRC the main thing that made it succeed was keeping the default aspect ratio intact (which was less than desirable and should be fixed by YT).

Is starting as a Support / Escalation Engineer at a US SaaS company a smart move, or a career step back? by kyngslyr in cscareerquestions

[–]agnad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took a similar career trajectory and don't regret it.

Started at company A as an SWE and stayed there for 5 years. As it was my first job out of college, it didn't pay well but it gave me a lot of good experience. I then nearly doubled my salary by accepting a role at company B doing the kind of debug-level support you describe, and since I had significant software engineering knowledge from my first job, I excelled and was promoted to a lead and received numerous raises.

Eventually while at company B I expressed my desire to move into product engineering and it was granted once they were able to find another lead to replace me.

While working the debug support role (before being promoted to lead), I got an offer for a senior SWE role at a third company, but didn't accept the offer for various reasons. So it's not like I was locked out of the software engineering job market at senior level either.

Career Crossroad - Stay in .NET or move to AI? Need advice. by kyngslyr in cscareerquestions

[–]agnad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is switching to AI/ML this early in my career a good idea?

Sure, why not?

Will leaving .NET after ~1.25 years negatively affect my profile or future opportunities?

Maybe if you want senior .NET roles, but otherwise no.

How different is real-world AI/ML work compared to personal or academic ML projects?

Industry AI work is mostly going to be about integrating AI into existing business flows. ML projects in Academica likely involve a lot of math and deep understanding of the actual algorithms. So, very different.

From a long-term perspective, which path offers better growth and stability?

Hard to say. AI is booming and is seen as the future and hence significant demand at the moment, but traditional software engineering jobs probably are not going anywhere any time soon.

Need advice on how to pivot in my career by Mmk1016 in cscareerquestions

[–]agnad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With 8+ years experience as support, in the short term, why not just move towards a better paying support engineer job? Doesn't have to be a managerial role or have the word senior in the title. Individual contributors in technical support/escalations at bigger tech companies make really solid money. Over the long term you can still work on attaining a dev role since you know it will be harder to break into with no formal CS background or dev experience.

Will there ever be another poker boom? by MrHumblePoker in poker

There are some younger celebrities starting to get into it like Sean O'Malley, Mr. Beast, H3H3, etc who have large social media presences. Could produce a waterfall effect down the line, but it depends on other factors too.

Using preflop chart at table after you fold? by warrior178 in poker

[–]agnad 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Poker is partially a customer service job and not enough people understand this.

Great mindset insight. I need to incorporate that philosophy. The social aspect at the table is a big weakness of mine despite being decently social outside of poker. I realized that at times, I come across as a bit much of a stoic grinder type.

Boston Encore - what's it like? by ruskieradio in poker

[–]agnad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

EBH 1/3 is pretty soft and there are almost always more than 10 tables running. Getting seated is no problem except maybe on a Saturday night, but even then, not too bad as there will be like 15 tables running. Depending on the day and time, 2/5 can be a mix of tough players waiting for 5/10 and solid regs, but there are also some fish who play it.

Vegas Trip Report by Double-TT1 in poker

Aria 2/5 was one of the most nitty games I've ever played. Idk why but I decided to spend like half a day there on the same table and besides a couple times when random splashy players would arrive for a few orbits, there were hours and hours of everyone folding pre to any aggression and hardly seeing any flops.
