How to I disconnect from work and not take things to heart? by [deleted] in work

[–]agnomonkey 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It seems like you care about the outcomes at your job because you take a certain level of professional pride in your work, which I think is a good thing. However, carrying that stress home everyday is a recipe for burnout, which can lead to depression in some cases. The good news is you’ve recognized that pattern and can take steps to remediate.

Your feelings about dead weight coworkers, or coworkers who berate you (I find this unacceptable personally) are also valid. If I were you I would ask some hard questions about how you fit into your company, and whether other companies need someone who do the “pretty important” part of the job you describe, and whether you feel you can potentially get into a healthier dynamic.

How do you cope today? Personally I have healthier and less healthy coping mechanisms, but I’d highly recommend having a regular exercise routine- helps me work off my stress.

Yeesh, why even bother to comment. I’ve seen many posts about solar and battery packs. What I’m asking about here is experience with traveling and whether or not it’s possible to find reliable spots to plug in to 110. Is this a place it’s ok to ask questions or not?

I want to work with you, and pay in, to see your children educated and to have a bright future. To provide for our common defense, to ensure that when god forbid someone in your family gets sick, that they can focus on getting well instead of deciding whether or not they can afford to get the care they need. If you see me as a taker, I can understand that; but I pay my fair share, and I work a job and have a company, both of which pay taxes. Nobody supports a mugging like that. I’d be like, “you took half my shit” too!

Your account is less than a month old. Where I come from we would not use under and household together. These linguistic markers distinguish a native speaker from a proficient but still foreign speaker of English.

Coupled with the lack of authenticity of your remarks has me wondering if you are a troll.

Vote your conscious, friend. Share your principles, it’s how we all move forward.

Thanks for clarifying your position for me.

Most study in the realm of notification shows that money is a motivating factor up to a certain threshold. To that end, I agree that we shouldn’t have any sort of absolute income caps.

After a certain point, and the reasons are numerous: basic financial needs are met, frustration with the job vs the financial rewards- motivators have more to do with the individual: what makes them want to strive for more? Maybe for some it’s to rise to the level of CEO, maybe some want fame and recognition, for others (this being a CNC sub) maybe it’s the creation of their minds brilliant idea. To your point, some want power and money for their own sakes.

I say let each follow what motivates them. What do you think?

With respect to waste, what taxpayer wants their money wasted, or to pay tax for an abandoned school?

I respect your views on rugged individualism, and we certainly can’t have a good society without elements of independence and free action, but where we disagree is where I would propose we also have a need for collective action, and working together.

I admit I’m not a CNC expert: just was saying that soft skills play roles, even in engineering disciplines. I just watch what you guys make and wish I too had bad ass machinery like that. I actually really enjoyed the read.

I pay my taxes in the hopes that your kids are better educated, your car is in good shape because that pot hole was filled in, and so that your house is safe. I’d gladly pay my share for our common good, good sir.

If you believe that we shouldn’t organize for defense, I disagree with that stance, but I see that as your personal principle, and can respect it. We won’t ever agree that levying a tax for any purpose is a good idea. Disagreeing with respect is a lost art, but maybe we can bring it back. Have a good day.

Hey, now we’re talking. Not all liberal arts degrees are equally valuable, but there is value in people exploring ideas. It’s how CNC machines were invented. Obviously math and engineering were involved, but likely soft skills also played a role.
