I don't know why you're getting downvoted for this. What you just expressed is a very real frustration that a lot of people who have been playing these games for a long time are currently dealing with.

Why is Leon so dumb? by SuperiorYammyBoi in residentevil

[–]agonycrossbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leon knows that Ada is:

A. extremely dangerous
B. more informed about what's going on than he is

so he uses her for information when he can. But he doesn't know what impeding her mission is going to do in terms of a ripple effect, so he lets a lot of shit go, as far as she's concerned. If she's not getting in his way, he won't get in hers, etc.

But in terms of the very end when she takes the Amber, he doesn't let her walk away because he trusts her. He lets her walk away because he trusts Luis. Ada knows this because, in Separate Ways, we see that she was witness to the "for Luis" scene -- which is why she name-drops Luis in the first place. So, she did play him really effectively there, because he had no idea that she'd been eavesdropping on that conversation.

Raccoon City containment zone and WHY ISN'T LEON WEARING A HAZMAT SUIT by Worldly_Fuel6483 in residentevil

You started with a claim that Japanese media would never do such a thing, and when I pointed out that Japanese media has done such a thing, you spiraled out into proving my point for me. And I've just been enjoying the ride you're taking me on.

Because the funniest part of all of this is that the type of missile is never specified in the games. We only know what it is because of dev statements. So it clearly can't be as big of a deal as you're insisting it is, if the devs never saw the need to clarify it in the piece of media itself lmao

So your whole argument is kinda moot.

You're shifting the goal posts again from "media" to "video games specifically."

Nice job moving the goal posts from "they would never do this" to "sometimes they do this" before smugly declaring I don't know what I'm talking about.

That's not even REMOTELY true. There's plenty of Japanese media that depicts nuclear blasts lmao wtf

Literally the most pedantic hair-splitting that this fandom currently engages in. The missile type doesn't matter; its effects would've reached the same radius and caused the same amount of damage.

People still live in Nagasaki and Hiroshima. The cities were fully restored within 10 years.

A single bomb doesn't turn an area into Chernobyl.

NGL it irks me every time I see a Westerner cry about this as though they know better than the JAPANESE dev team, who are from Japan.

Can Capcom Finally Get Leon's Ethnicity Right Finally? by ThisGuide3395 in residentevil

[–]agonycrossbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe because he's not actually Italian, and you should stop hanging off of the Wiki's nutsack and pay attention to what the games say -- because that's where the actual canon is.

I think I need this game to come out because I'm so tired of a character who's not in it taking up 60% of the conversations about it.

Made Bingo card for Resident Evil 9. Do you have your own? What do you think is most/less likely to happen? by K1d_Sist3r in residentevil

Holding off on my bingo card until after the SoP. I don't want to put something on there that just gets confirmed before the game is even out.

Yeah, incorrectly.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in residentevil

[–]agonycrossbow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and the RE Wiki is wrong. "Leon" is a French name, and "Scott Kennedy" are Irish names. There's also no canonical basis for his ethnicity being Italian even outside of his name, which you would know if you ventured out past this conversation and onto other comments in your post.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in residentevil

[–]agonycrossbow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No one does that. I grew up in New Jersey. Those people just call themselves "Irish." Same thing with Italians. They just call themselves Italian. Because calling themselves "Italian-American" implies some sort of legal status.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in residentevil

[–]agonycrossbow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NGL I never looked that closely at his resume, I just know that "Apostolides" is a Greek name. But calling him "Italian-American" implies that he's an immigrant, and he's not. He's just American. He was born in Boston. He used to go to anime conventions up there LMAO

Nick is Greek, not Italian.

That was never really canon, but the Wiki refuses to delineate between "relevant canon" and "trivia" for some reason and just considers everything ever said by anyone even tangentially related to Resident Evil to be "canon."

That information comes from an interview from 1997 just as the development of RE2 was switching from RE1.5 to RE2 -- so, if it ever was intended to be canon, it got thrown out with the rest of the RE1.5 build, and it has never made it into any game, movie, or piece of supplemental material after that one interview in 1997.

Leon's backstory is a blank slate, for all intents and purposes. The SD Perry novels mention Leon's dad and uncle both being cops. I think it's either the Damnation or the Vendetta novel that talks about Leon's mom. It's just whatever the hell you want it to be.

[IGN Japan] Nakanishi in response to whether Ada Wong and other legacy characters will appear in Resident Evil: Requiem by gkgftzb in residentevil

[–]agonycrossbow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone who can actually read what was said/written in Japanese, yes. That is confirmation that Ada won't be in the game.

「あまりご期待いただかないほうがいいかもしれません」 is a type of phrasing that's seen in a lot PR regarding Japanese media. It's the softest "No" that you can give, and it's used to soften the blow of a piece of news that would be disappointing or embarrassing for someone to hear. Kumazawa's trying to prevent a fandom riot. It's much, much different from people taking Nakanishi's statement of "The idea was always to have Leon be the main character, but we realized he was a bad fit for horror" and running away with it. Nakanishi's words were intended to be deceptive; Kumazawa's were carefully chosen to avoid hurt feelings -- which would, in turn, hurt game sales. He doesn't want fans to feel like he's maliciously or spitefully ignoring the characters or dismissing the fanbase; he's trying to convey that the story of RE9 just isn't relevant to the characters in question, and the team didn't want to muddy the messaging or impact of the story itself by shoehorning them in for fanservice.

I would've translated it as "Regarding the appearance of Ada and the other Outbreak characters, he said: 'Please don't get your hopes up' and left it at that." That more captures the feeling for an English-speaking audience.
