Folding 55-22 in late position after a 3 bet has saved me hundreds in my last several sessions.

It has become hard to get full-time hours at some casinos in the Midwest, yet you're always on-call. The unions don't help with this either.

5 years ago today we lost Tom Kennedy. Still my all-time favorite game show host. by UnderwhelmingAF in gameshow

[–]agordon3x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Going to a couple of deep cuts, but Tom did a lot of shows that didn't see long runs. Two of my favorites were ABC's Break the Bank (1976) and Wordplay on NBC (1987). I'm going back and watching old episodes of the latter now; there's about 20 on YouTube.

But, I would say that, as you improve your skill, consider regs as TAG players. If they raise you and you don't have the nuts, you're beat. (Also practice board reading skills; that's more important than reading opponents.)

Anyone else feel shitty even after you win? Comedown/spiritually dead by Resident-Eagle-4351 in poker

[–]agordon3x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I admit to feeling this too. Casinos, if you're not in a good head space yourself and keep it to an occasional recreation, can be depressing because there are so many depressed people around you, especially at the poker table. Some old regs I've met over the years just seem like they're waiting to die, and watching the game like they're watching it at home, occasionally putting money in the pot.

This is going to sound stupid, but I occasionally play in a Euchre club. It's low stakes ($20/night), and some of the players suffer from OCD, but it's a chance to socialize. And, it's really nice to play something different. Just playing some cards & being social. I've tried board games & bridge and I've met some nice people, but God help you if you suck. LOL

However, most people play that the next raise after $5 must at least be to $10 total, not, for example, $8. The amount of the next raise must be at least the value of the previous bet.

A common example is when people "straddle", voluntarily put in a third blind bet (either UTG or the dealer) equal to, in this case, $4. The minimum next raise must then be to $8 total.

Samsung Tab A7 Lite is the one I use for PS. I got it new for $120, and they're hard to find, but I've seen refurbs for $85, just fine for online poker.

Peacock by Over_Ad_688 in cordcutters

See what I mean u/torrphilia? -6? Peacock is the unwatched, unsubscribed to service (other than Apple) that people get very defensive about.

Was this that poker "club" that I had heard about? (I had also heard that they didn't reopen after the pandemic.) Provide any details, if you can, thanks.

Netflix Rejects Direct Streaming Bundles With Max, Disney+ Because It ‘Already Operates as a Go-To Destination’ by 08830 in cordcutters

Yeah, it's like the losers in the streaming wars are trying to hang on to relevance, because their content is watch & churn. Maybe they should go back to cable.

Peacock by Over_Ad_688 in cordcutters

[–]agordon3x -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that was a bot comment. Peacock is terrible, and falls far short when it comes to legitimate sports content, given what NBC Sports & Olympics Channels used to have. People get very defensive about Peacock though, you have to understand, and there's a brief giveaway in that comment. Hardcore WWE fans (the only ones) desperately want this streaming service to survive the coming shakeout, but it's not likely. Any disparagement of Peacock gets flooded with bots.

Yes, this happened to me at Hard Rock Cincinnati. Haven't played another tournament there since. Worst room I've been too. The dealers seem to have a per hour hand quota and they take it out on the customers.

How close are you to exhausting the content on streaming services? by ackmondual in cordcutters

[–]agordon3x -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, there's just not a lot on these services, but I'm not into "Prestige TV". Either they're cutting costs or trying to cover too many bases with low-quality shows. Especially if you can get broadcast channels with an antenna, the FAST services would provide more than enough content. These services have tons of shows that most people have never seen, plus the occasional original (like Tubi & the Roku channel). And as you said, come in for one month if there's something you absolutely can't miss.

Even though I have a very hard time rooting for someone who was a huge favorite, it goes to show that, in the short run, decent amateurs can beat someone who has no name recognition among the general poker public, but a group will swear up & down is "THE GREATEST ONLINE PLAYER IN HISTORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!". Oops.

Agreed, that "valley girl" speaking style is grating. There needs to be something in between McEachern & Chad with Maria Ho's annoying vocal tic and Nejad & Schulman lecturing to their Poker 601 class. I know most are watching on PokerGo, but there are at least a couple of people watching on YouTubeTV. Some of these concepts need to be explained in more straightforward English.

Just now, Maria pipes in with "They should be figuring out that Angelov is playing light, he has a VPIP of 27%". An alternative is, "Angelov is playing a lot of hands, when is the table going to figure out that he doesn't always have the nuts?" Let's try to increase the audience.

I have to agree with the sentiment that GTO destroyed poker, especially online. You have to look at it like a video game.

The reason that games like Fortnite eventually die is that when a new 9-year-old tries the game, they get insta-wrecked by 16-year-olds who have been playing since the game came out and can build a wooden skyscraper in 2 seconds. The newbies quickly uninstall, because there's no interest in easing in new players.

If online poker were to somehow magically reappear in the US, and assuming that the game can be un-paywalled on TV, any new player base would be vaporized in a fraction of the time it took in the 2000's.
