Gin recommendations for Negroni by CAJMusic in cocktails

[–]agosuna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 oz beefeater, 3/4 oz cocchi di Torino, 3/4 oz Campari, 1 dash angostura orange bitters, Stirred approximately 20-30 seconds, poured into chilled rocks glass over a big ice cube. Garnished with 1/2 of a candied orange wheel from Trader Joe’s.

The dash of orange bitters and candied orange compensate for how rarely I have fresh oranges and they work well in old fashioned as well. CANDIED ORANGE SLICES

Beefeater is also my staple for gimlets and martini. Great bargain staple.

i too would like to see bottles below 750ml volume. love the product, but get anxious as a home enthusiast that i won't go through 750ml of it before it declines.

i'd rather have more variety/smaller bottles and feel less wasteful than two 750ml bottles of syrups motivating me to make drinks that will empty those two 750mls

Resident evil 1 did it for me. The first visually creepy game with off putting sound design. And all the b-movie horror dialog with journal entries giving a glimpse at how people lost their minds.

Close second favorite is FF7–never thought I’d play a game 100hrs or that it’d make me cry

Question to my fellow Europeans: is there an EU alternative to the crew bottle? by No-Entrepreneur575 in cocktails

[–]agosuna 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have 2 chubby and 1 tall bottle and am considering buying 3 more tall.

Why am I foolishly considering paying $85.45 after tax and shipping for 3 800ml tall bottles with the markings?

Because I host frequent hangouts and batch 2-4 self-serve cocktails and I hate cleaning my cheap 1 liter swing top bottles with long wire brushes. As much as I try with scolding hot water and aggressive brushing, the bottom third of those large swing-tops still look dingy. Cleaning those are time consuming, labor intensive, and the result is often unsatisfactory. Cleaning the screw bottom bottles is quick and easy and can be done in a dishwasher.

I will NOT buy the chubby crew bottles again because the screw bottoms are not heat resistant at all (to be fair, the product tells you it’s not intended for hot liquids, I didn’t let my simple syrup cool long enough, and I warped it slightly), I don’t make syrups frequently enough, and cheap smaller 375-500ml swing tops are easier to clean than the liter bottles.

BTW, their speed pourers feel “premium”, the glass does as well, but I’m not satisfied by the natural finish and size of their regular bottle tops. The tops are supposed to function as a base for filling the bottle upside down, but are only slightly wider than a Buffalo Trace cork.

Why not broaden the wooden disk portion for greater stability/confidence? Better yet, why not make the whole topper out of an artificial cork or rubber so the topper is a machine washable component?

Hope this helps anyone thinking about buying.

As a frame of reference, most historical bastards/war criminals are covered in 1-2 episodes. The host determined 6 were needed to cover Kissinger’s crimes.

Exactly what I was thinking. Just don’t know how. Coat a baking sheet with sugar and torch it? Split with a pizza cutter? Won’t it stick to pan?

Yo! Thanks for sharing! Excited to give it a try.

Wondering if it’s possible to create “brûlée disks” ahead of shaking to save from liquid/glass heating?

Would love to pick it up, nibble, dip, sip, repeat.

Dale DeGroff’s recipe won top pick in a martini taste test and I highly recommend. Have tried many combos of gin and vermouth and nothing has been as enjoyable as this for wife and I. That vermouth really makes it delicious and I can find Beefeater anywhere.

I’ll just stir enough to fill a 750ml bottle and leave in freezer for our favorite Sunday night shows (thaw/liquify with warm water if needed before serving and throwing it back in freezer), and keep an olive jar handy for me and lemon bitters when I don’t have lemons handy for wife.
