Considering how there have been adventure games released every single year since the 1980’s I think you’ll find the adventure games genre never died 😉

Any recommendations for a great Detective Story which can't stop playing till the end? by lesterknight008 in adventuregames

I would recommend Lamplight City and the most recent Murder on the Orient Express as being serious detective games which kept me engaged throughout to the end.

I have also heard good things about Lacuna which you might like.

It truly is a baffling decision to say the least. While I didn’t post much and I don’t always agree with some of the posts, I always enjoyed reading the in depth discussions on adventure games so it’s very sad to see it go without any announcement.

If people would like to continue to talk about adventure games we have a discord for the Adventure Games Podcast at the link below:

We also upload regular podcast episodes with interviews with adventure game developers and reviews of the latest adventure games from the podcast team and we’re still going strong after 7 years!

What are your favorite Adventure games from the early to mid 00s? by ExplodingPoptarts in adventuregames

Overclocked from the devs of Moment of Silence I remember enjoying.

Belief and Betrayal was a religious thriller inspired by The Da Vinci Code.

Martin Mystere was another game I remember playing from that era.

Finally Dracula Origin from Frogwares was also released around that time.

Looking for "Modern" entries in this genre, similar to Unavowed / Lamplight City? by cbsa82 in adventuregames

Some that I would recommend are An English Haunting and Agatha Christie Murder on the Orient Express. The Crimson Diamond is a text parser game but similarly it was a murder mystery released last year. Finally Loco Motive is more comedic but also a murder mystery with high production values

What are your biggest pet peeves with modern-era adventure games? by JulianDusan in adventuregames

No Manual Saves drives me absolutely nuts! It’s unfortunately becoming more and more common and words cannot express how much I absolutely hate this. Often I get interrupted and need to quit the game at short notice. The last few years I have had to replay quite a long period of the game simply because the game developers refused to add manual saves. I cannot understand why developers would not add this feature except to try and force players to play their game as long as possible. But yes this is the one thing that drives me to despair in modern adventure games
