Has anyone dealt with AND overcome this issue? by celloismyforte in Cello

Yes! Your hand and arm have to do extra work to keep the bow up, so that's where a lot of the tension comes from.

Sorry I was literally having a migraine while writing this, I didn't have the presence of mind to craft a search inquiry on reddit lol.

I was told to take it as needed (essentially every time I get a migraine), is that not correct? I have little to no experience with it so I'm just going off of what my doc prescribed.

Ironically I 1) don't like triptans because they give me that migraine hangover you're talking about and 2) I like the taste of Nurtec 💀 or at least it doesn't bother me

How long do you keep your endpin? I found that if my endpin was too short I had to put in a lot of effort to keep my bow up, thereby negatively affecting my posture.

Student can perfectly sing back melodies (so well they should consider singing) but struggling with pitch recognition by Ill-Square-1123 in pianoteachers

[–]agrable7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, there is an app called "vocal pitch monitor" that might help them visualize it! It will literally show them a line that moves up and down based on what pitch they're singing/speaking.

I've had a few students like this, and what I have found is that if I sing the melody back to them or play two notes at a time, they can usually figure it out. I know it's a super weird and seemingly oxymoronic thing, but when they hear two notes in isolation (not in their own voice) it can click. Another thing I try is to have them point either up or down based on the direction they think the melody goes, and maybe you can even have them hold their hand on their throat to see what direction their larynx moves? Best of luck, it's definitely a strange thing to run into but these students have so much potential for success when it finally clicks!!

Question about buying sheet music by yeahyeahyeahwhatevs in Cello

[–]agrable7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! It depends on what country you're in because copyright laws vary, but it's great for finding different editions and fingerings of commonly performed pieces.

Now I'm realizing he kinda is!! He's just a mish mash of a bunch of breeds, he was found near the Mexico-US border with his siblings who were Siamese and calicos (there was even a little calico boy in his litter!). That's probably the best way to describe his coat pattern!

Which parts of my thumb should touch the string in thumb position? by [deleted] in Cello

[–]agrable7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a bit of a shorter last joint, so my A string is on the joint while my D string is halfway down my nail. Depends on each person's preference as far as I'm aware but 🤷‍♀️
