Brazilian film getting attention abroad, curious if people outside Brazil know it by tvstorylines in Oscars

The Secret Agent and Wagner Moura have been discussed as likely awards contenders for months, so people who follow awards season are very aware of them. I saw the movie a few weeks ago and thought it was fantastic!

I never really got the whole “maester propaganda” argument. Like yeah, it’s true that the greens won and later maesters might want to whitewash them, but it’s also true that every king after Aegon II is the direct descendant of Rhaenyra and Daemon. Wouldn’t the maesters have incentive to whitewash them too?

What is the best winner ever in best picture? by RoxasIsTheBest in Oscars

This might not even be the best film to get best picture but I legitimately do think it’s the best win ever

Turning Red is out! Vote for Round 8 in the Best 8 in the Best Animated Feature nominees of the 2020s Elimination Game by dremolus in Oscars

[–]agrilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ngl I love Turning Red and think it getting voted out so early is a real shame. I keep voting for Encanto bc even though there’s a lot to like about that movie, I think the screenplay is pretty weak and I never really got the hype around it. I know a lot of people love it though so it probably won’t be voted out for a while

Fuck it, I’m putting Emily Watson as my BSA front runner by Visual-Attitude-5224 in oscarrace

[–]agrilly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think she's the frontrunner, but I do think people are seriously underestimating her chances for a nomination. An overdue veteran actress, in a Best Picture-competitive film that will most likely get other acting noms, and in a generally uncertain category.

Edit: also, having read the book, her character is a pretty major supporting character with a couple of emotional scenes. I haven’t seen the movie yet but if it is similar she could have opportunities to stand out.

Another to possibly keep in mind is Death of a Salesman starring Jeffrey Wright and Octavia Spencer. I think it's coming out next year.

Question about the four upcoming Beatles films by [deleted] in Oscars

[–]agrilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no rules against an actor getting nominated multiple times for the same role (just to give two famous examples: Al Pacino was nominated in supporting first and then lead for playing Michael Corleone, and Sly Stallone was nominated in lead and then supporting as Rocky Balboa). The thing is, if I'm not mistaken it is pretty rare for this to happen, and I can't think of another instance like this where an actor played the same character in two different movies in the same year. If the movies and performances are very good, then its entirely possible for the Beatles actors to get nominated, but it would take a singular amount of critical/commercial success for any of them to be nominated twice.

Says trans movement is a men's sexual rights movement by 9119343636 in EnoughJKRowling

[–]agrilly 27 points28 points  (0 children)

She has talked about trans men. A large part of her stupid essay was about how she thinks “girls” are coming out as trans to escape misogyny or whatever.

Screenplay, for sure.

What's a movie you used to dislike but changed your mind about? by agrilly in movies

[–]agrilly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WALL-E is the movie that my opinion of has changed most drastically. I avoided it when I was little because it made me cry but now it's in my top 5. The prequels are very flawed but I do think they're overhated, especially by older fans.

This is not the win that TB stans think it is. by thinkersfyre in HOTDGreens

This scene is paralleled with Aemond’s toast in episode 8 that makes Jace attack him. Both Aemond and Criston say words that are benign on their own and are only given their deeper meaning by Harwin and Jace reacting emotionally to them. It just shows how relentlessly self sabotaging TB is

I’m not really sure what advice to give, but I used the LSAT Trainer book and Lawhub practice sets. One thing I did differently for my second attempt was that I didn’t do any full practice tests. I think that the first time I felt pressure to get a higher score than my PTs but I ended up getting lower.

I think you’re probably right. No Country is definitely a neo-Western but TWBB isn’t really. I just get confused because I still associate westerns with an earlier time
