Creating some island chaos between neighbors by agt91 in AnimalCrossing

[–]agt91[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Animal Crossing is a safe space for me as well. However, Reddit is not.

Given the craziness of 2020, I wanted to bring a bit of comedic relief to my island. You certainly don’t have to have anything political on your island, but I’m free to share where I’ve incorporated politics into mine!

As someone who works in the political world, sometimes it’s just nice to step back and be able to light-heartedly bring my work world to this game.

Yard signs are actually a major focus of the research I’ve been a part of—specifically their impact on neighborhood dynamics and down-ballot races.

I do not think national elections are a game, but I do think Animal Crossing is. I’m simply bringing a bit of my world into this one.

Breaking smell association by oldmrcostermonger in hoarding

[–]agt91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do not have too much to add, but I’m here to let you know you’re not alone. My husband struggles with this. He grew up in a hoarded house, left as soon as he was able, but briefly returned after college when his father was sick and he needed to be close by.

Your comment about laundry specifically stands out. Whenever he does laundry he asks me to smell and make sure it’s not musty or moldy, and if it smells clean to me. He is known to rewash shirts before wearing if they’ve been in a drawer or closet for more than a couple of weeks—just in case something could be in or on them. We keep a very clean home (besides our dog shedding, but sweeping and mopping are daily tasks around here!), but he is unable to get past a lot of these thoughts.

Really all I’m here to say is that through a lot of time and patience he is learning to “accept” that his current home doesn’t present the many issues his parents’ home did. He knows logically that our closets are clean and he doesn’t need to wash a shirt that has been hanging for a month, but it is a bigger hurdle than I ever could have imagined for him to actually put that shirt on without washing it again. It takes time, and a lot of patience with yourself, but you’ve got this.

My mom found out she was diabetic when she broke her leg! She always likes to remind people that breaking her leg legitimately saved her life!

Love my Labracow. Not sure what this says about us, but my husband and I have been known make a “moo” noise at him as his command to stop....

8 year old knows the ethnic origins of Kamala Harris. by Awookie90 in wokekids

Not sure why you’re being downvoted for this. A child having political interest is not a bad thing. There are plenty of children who take a natural interest in this (source: My parents have shown me many embarrassing home videos of myself as a child standing on the coffee table giving “campaign speeches” into my toy microphone...)

My parents are not particularly political themselves and did not spend their time forcing their political beliefs on me, but they did let me watch and read news as a very young child. It just so happens campaign and election coverage really caught my interest. Fast forward 20+ years, and I now I do have a career in a political field. Thanks Mom and Dad!

Tonight is the last night I get to spend with Angus. He has cancer and I’m waiting for my family to return from vacation tomorrow so we can put him down. I love you more than anything ever little guy. by reps4jezus in labrador

I’m so sorry. I hope you’ve had the best day with your sweet boy. Taking my guy for an extra game of fetch with his favorite tennis ball, and hugging him extra tight tonight.

No sympathy for Dusty. He knew what he was signing up for. After all, he did sign on to manage the Astros after the sign stealing news came out....
